Went for my father-in-laws birthday and were 4 in our group. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff are very friendly. Our food order took a bit longer than normal, but they were very busy for a Monday evening. Food was awesome and worth the extra wait! Highly recommend the fish tacos with cilantro sauce which my wife usually gets. I also recommend the steak sandwich which was amazing and was cooked to perfection! The cheese was so gooey and tasty and just beyond words! Vans is an awesome family fun place to eat any time of day. Plenty of TVs to watch sports or other programs and staff is always willing to accommodate which channels are put on. Can't go wrong at Van's.

Talk about reverse racism...if you're white don't bother. The service is absolutely terrible. I was meeting some friends for drinks (they are all Latinos and I was the only white guy) who had been there since noon I arrived at 5, I had already ate some place else. I had 4 beers, I was only there just over an hour and was asked to leave. I was told I was over served, but I could stay if I ordered some food. For the record, I didn't have any drinks anywhere else before I arrived. Also, while I was there another customer was at the bar, a white lady and she was asked to leave as well. When she walked out the server called the police and pointed her out to the police for being drunk. Now I don't condone drinking and driving however the lady got drunk in their restaurant and then they decided to call the police on her way out. How can they stay in business if they continuously have people arrested for drinking in their restaurant or is it just the white people. Either way racism is wrong and that should not be tolerated at this day and age at a restaurant.

Read about this spot on a FaceBook page that spoke highly about it. We drove down to the beach for a small family vacation and swung by on our way back home. Great ambiance inside, love the 1940’s, 1950-60-70’s high school sports photos. Our food took a little longer than we would’ve liked as we we were just trying to pass by, eat and go. The food quality most definitely made the wait worth while. Plus a triple stack hamburger for under $10 is unheard of with this wild economy. Our waitress was very communicative and even brought my little baby girl complimentary sweet potato fries. Highly recommended.

Pull Over!!!.. What a hidden "Pirate's" Treasure!!! Anything battered had just the right crisp and flavor. You must try the Treasure Chest, a FULL bowl of mixed appetizers. The Huddle (triple meat) burger was my husband's favorite homemade burger yet! They are not stingy with their servings, and the prices are very reasonable, compared to even fast food restraunts. We didn't have much of await at all, but I can imagine for a local small town hangout, it be a bit of a wait,but oh so worth it!!! Our server was friendly and very attentive. Great service, TY Theresa! We will be back!

I hate to give two stars considering the burgers were good and the servers were friendly, but the cleanliness of the dining area was just awful. When I entered there were 2-3 tables that had not been bussed. Even tables that had been bussed had not been wiped down. And the floor beneath most of the tables was strewn with food and trash. By the time I left, one third of the tables in the restaurant had not been bussed. It looked really bad to look around the restaurant and see it covered with trash.I know how easy it is to get in the weeds in a restaurant, especially when you are short staffed. But that wasn’t the case here. There were at least 3 servers for about 7-8 parties. They just did not prioritize cleaning the dirty tables. Two of them were relaxing while the restaurant was a mess.I don’t really blame the servers. This is a management and training problem. Management hasn’t made it clear that bussing tables is not optional.

I’d never heard of this place, but the outside looks can be deceiving. Sports bar ambiance, but family friendly, roomy, and fast service. Waitress was taking our order within 5 minutes of arrival, drinks and appetizers arrived quickly thereafter. I’d recommend the shrimp tacos. Good portion size, but I wanted, and could have eaten, more. Shrimp salad was huge. Touchdown burger and Pirate burgers were good; toasted buns added to the genuine greasy burger taste and feel. Fries were crispy and hot. Friendly service, plenty of parking, pretty easy to find even with several wrong turns. Hidden gem in Mathis! Give it a try!

Excellent food and service from Bell! Right there when ya need her. Only thing was the Lemon-aid was a little weak but not holding that against them. Every restaurant makes different. Thank you Bell for the great meal and service.

Worth the few minute drive off 37! The fried mushroom and fried pickles were to die for!!! The burgers are made fresh daily and you can definitely taste it! So good! Yes, there was a baseball team seated , but if they could not handle the business , they should have told us coming in door it was going to be a while. We waited almost an hour for our food, the only reason we did not leave is we were on our way to San Antonio and did not want to make another stop.He had a foot long chili dog that was ok , I had a patty melt that the meat was not seasoned and undercooked ( normally I would have sent back) the cheese was not really melted and some of the onions were very undercooked!! The onion rings were great , too bad I ordered 1/2 order.

I placed an order to go but was waiting outside. If I hadn't gone inside to check on my order, it would have been sitting there til who knows when. The girl said she would call me when my order was ready but that didn't happen. I ordered the catfish plate and a hamburger. We ate it but most of it was room temperature. The burger was cold. Catfish and fries were soggy since they had been sitting there. I'm disappointed.

This was my first time here, and I need to say it will probably be my last. The waitress took out drink and appetizer order right away and then disappeared. It wasn't until 20 minutes later that she took out food orders, and at that point, I ordered an ice tea because my pina colada was long gone. After that, again, she did her disappearing act. She didn't come to check on our table like other waitresses at other tables. She took that long that we had to get up and get our own drinks. The food came in , and half the orders were warm to cold. No complaints were made because it would have been an hour before we got that food back hot and ready to eat. All in all, I need to visit one more time. Every place has its bad days, but I believe in redemption. The place wasn't crowded at all to lack the attentiveness needed to maintain great customer satisfaction. (Our waitress was the daughter of the manager).

Ordered some takeout. Bought the hamburger steak plate.It's basically a ground beef patty. But it's smothered in Brown gravy with grilled onions and a few slices of jalapeno. To my surprise,it was really tasty. Do recommend.My wife got a Caesar Salad and my son got a Ribeye sandwich 🥪.👍👍👍👍👍

Nice little spot, to grab a quick bite. Just not a "go to" place for me. Food was OK, but wings were terrible (bad quality meat, to fatty and tendons in it)Interior design was 50/50, like they focused on one wall, and not the others (like were supposed to just stare at that wall?)Best part about the place was the price.

While camping at a local state park, we decided to search for a nearby resturant where my family and I could enjoy a great dinner. Van's Burgers & Soda Bar did not disappoint. The prices are fair for the amount of food you get. I got the wings, crunchy! Wifey got the catfish sandwich, #delish and the kiddos got a hotdog, yummy. We shared an order of fries & onion rings. Blue Moon on tap and wifey ordered a Blue Hawaiian. We definitely recommend visiting this restaurant, at least once. Shout out to our server Mari for the excellence service. I hope this review helps you on your quest to find some good eats!

Was driving through the town to get back to Houston when I found this place and was so glad I did. I am a sucker for a good burger joint. I am in outside sales with a territory of half of Texas. Needless to say, I’m always on the road. When you pull into the parking lot, the first thing that you notice is the whole parking lot is full of cars to eat here (always a great sign). The staff is very friendly and helpful with food recommendations. I ordered the touchdown burger with fried green beans instead of French fries and was not disappointed. This has become wine of my top 5 burger favorites. Definitely planning on coming back here in the future!

The atmosphere is awesome with all the tv's to watch your favorite sport. The restaurant is super clean and the best part about it, is the food is freaking awesome. This is a must try.
