Very nice but don’t touch the aluminum boxes or take photos unless you wanna be shot by the tour guide

Myself and some friends took a tour of the Judd Foundation on our trip to Marfa and had an amazing time. The pace of the tour was excellent; it didn't feel like we were being rushed through and there was plenty of time to explore the space. The selection of Judd merchandise is also great. Our tour guide did a wonderful job!

You can walk here from basically anywhere in town. It's a really fun tour to do whether you're a Judd fan or not. Looking into an artist's domicile and work space like that is always cool and he lived in a very interesting way. His archive collection is amazing and you get to see some works and his living area as well.

I took two different Donald Judd tours and had two different experiences. The first tour was wonderful, for the guide took time for questions and provided researched based explanations. He was able to inform between fact and inferences. This guy was a younger gentlemen. However, the second tour was rapid. He did not pause nor give time for questions. Rather, you had to stop him midway and ask a questions. Sometimes you were met with what appeared to be agitation, and other times with blanket statements. This guide was older and wore cowboy boots and a hat.The younger tour guide was modest. The guide would let you know what was the extent of his thinking rather than a blunt statement. The older tour guide would get mad if you asked a question to something he already answered. He didn't understand that the human mind can only hold so much things at one time, and breathing space is necessary to have a thoughtful dialogue about what we guest are not experts in.The four stars are for the younger guide.

You really have to experience Judd’s work here, as everything has been carefully curated as the artist himself intended. Plus Marfa has its own vibe that distinguishes places like MOMA. If you are a Judd fan, it’s absolutely a must-see!

Interesting and informative would be the two best adjectives I would use to describe the docents of our two separate tours. The only recommendation I would have would be to somehow abbreviate the background info given at the beginning of each. This ended up being 30 min of redundancy. At least the info shared was identical at each presentation! Otherwise, worth the time and money.

In 1991, Judd purchased the Print Building—previously home to a bank, a post office, and the Crews Hotel, located on Highland Avenue in downtown Marfa—with the intention of installing twenty-eight rooms on the top floor with the complete collection of his prints, which he had earlier set aside for such a display. He installed two large works in anodized aluminum on the ground floor from his exhibition at the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Germany (August 27–October 15, 1989). Went in the summer, insufferably hot in the exhibits. Our tour guide was rude and the artwork is really nothing special. Wouldn't come back.

You have to wait for a tour to see any of the interesting work. If you missue the tour, you're stuck waiting 2-3 hours until another stars, and there's not much to do in town.

Be careful before you buy tickets - you may actually be looking for the Chinati Foundation (not the Judd Foundation). They do not give refunds, partial or otherwise, or exchanges for tickets purchased.

Learn the history of Judd's relationship with Marfa. A great introduction to start your visit into town.

Don't drive all the way down to Marfa without visiting his studio (don't ask whom). Perfect combo with the Chinati foundation.
