Stopped in to get some snacks for my journey that day on the Southern Tier bicycle route. Who would have expected health and speciality food?! The prices are what you can expect for good food. I found some good treats and the fresh baked cookies made my day! The seating area out back is very chill!

Great quick stop for hiking provisions or groceries if you're staying nearby. They have a bit of everything from small gear, water bottles, and bug spray to produce, meat and other shelf stable items. What put them over the top into the 5-star exceptional category was the Friday Night Burgers and live music. Seriously good beef burgers and portobello mushroom burgers to rival any burger joint I've been to anywhere. If you're in the area, stop in for general needs, they've got you covered. But if you're here on a Friday, you've hit the burger lotto. Enjoy!

Had one of the best americanos of my life here (and I can be a little picky when it comes to my coffee)! This is the perfect stop on your way to Big Bend. In addition to groceries, its got a better beer selection than most full size grocery stores, camping supplies, beautiful selection of art and and souvenirs, and as mentioned earlier, delicious espresso.Truly a gem of an establishment.

I went to the French Grocer for burger night, and OMG - WORTH IT!! I have a ton of allergies and have had to omit many delicious foods from my diet; although I allow myself to cheat/splurge once a year and eat food I’m allergic to only if it’s worth it, and this burger is WORTH IT. Full of flavor, soft hot bun, local meat, awesome homemade chips to go along with it, and an endless amount of options for you to make your burger just the way you want it. I’ll definitely be going back to splurge on burger night again. Big thanks to Mary and Patrick for making one of the most delicious burgers - you can taste the love from which it is made.

The French Grocer is the kind of place you’d imagine Steve McQueen in a movie stopping off to buy a Coca Cola before robbing a bank and heading over the border. It has that vibe that screams dance down each isle. You can eat ice cream on a bench on a hot day. You can get a coffee and a pack of smokes. You can buy a plastic comb. You can let them brush your rock n roll hair. Let the good times roll. Remember when you could buy ramen and a Mexican blanket at the same store? Me too.

We came here a couple of times while spending the night at the Gage hotel. What a wonderful small business! They have a very large selection of food, cold drinks, baked goods and fresh sandwiches. During the evening you may find people hanging out in the back watching a movie on their big screen, it has a super community vibe, check this place out! And say hi to Cheeto the wonder dog while you’re there!

This is one of my happy places. Tastiest snacks, freshest baked goods (and coffee), friendliest folks, cutest doggies, BEST John Prine tribute, favorite veggie burger, comfiest patio… and the list goes on and on. Thanks for all that y’all do.

Cool grocery store! Bought some water here to prep for our hike the following day in Big Bend. Coffee here was good and they have a good selection of wines made in the region.

We stopped by here on our way to Terlingua and they had everything we needed! We chose not to get the apples because they weren't very fresh. But they had fire wood, sunscreen, bug spray, wine bottle opener, and other typical grocery items, that we were looking for. They also had cute little souvenirs such as stickers and Texas themed books. ALSO they were playing an illenium playlist the Friday afternoon that we were there so I immediately loved the vibe.

Great place for camping supplies, food (ingredients and prepared), and gift items-- staff are very friendly. A must-stop on the way to or from BBNP or Terlingua! Get their early for the breakfast tacos-- they sell out fast. Sandwiches and lunch burritos are also on point! Also appreciated the fact that they are open seven days a week (9a- 9p) so you can hit them up on the way out or the way back in. Great spot.

We stumbled upon this cozy store during our stargazing road trip. The store charmingly offers a diverse selection of necessities, making it feel like a home away from home. Their in-house coffee shop was a delightful surprise, and the available wine was a welcome addition.

the French co is a must stop for us every time we visit west Texas. They have everything you will need to stock up on food, camping/river gear, fresh lunch, and cold beer. We also try to plan our trip when they are having Sunday brunch or live music. The beer garden in the back is one of our favorite places to take a break from travels and relax in the shade. Marathon is a town of great humans and good views, and the French co is the center of it.

Way too expensive and they know it. The staff was rude. The employees also turn the place into an after hours club and blast music late into the night. We stayed right behind the store at an Airbnb. NEVER again. Do yourself a favor and go to Alpine!!!

Great little store in Marathon. For its size and location, it features a wide variety of items, including breakfast burritos, and bakery items such as cinnamon rolls. It also carries a few camping necessities just in case you forgot something on your way into Big Bend. We split a bacon, egg, bean and cheese burrito and it was very good and plenty of food for both of us. Service was excellent- a super friendly, efficient and helpful clerk, Michael. Thanks Michael!

dear whom it may concern, one time I was on a flight to Singapore and as I took my aisle seat on the hefty 747, the flight attendant, who had a thick german accent, tucked me in like a little baby girl and gave me tree dvds to choose from. “enjoy, little vun,” she said. the first was Free Willy, grandma's fave, hard pass. too sad. the second was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. strange that there was a “Willy” theme going on there. i was already feeling nervous about going to Singapore where fun and candy wrappers are not allowed, so, no thanks. another pass. finally there was Total Recall, the perfect movie. i watched it two times through on the flight and nearly perfected my Arnold accent. it changed my life forever. my favorite scene from the movie is when Arnold —nay, Douglas Quaid— attempts to pass through Mars security dressed in drag. the helmet disguised as an old lady’s head begins to malfunction giving his costume away and alerting the security of a problem. Quaid removes the defective robot head and as it spasms and shorts, the repeating recording continues to play out of the pale robot mouth. “two weeks…twWooOo weEeEks,” it utters. Quaid throws the head at security and it explodes, allowing for a quick escape.anyway, this grocer is my favorite spot in all of West Texas. there's specialty coffee, guitars humming, natural wine, wild tales of youth, chocolate chip cookies with hunkin' hunks of chocolaté, the best breakfast bacon burrito i've ever had in my several lives, and, of course, true love. everyone is welcome here so strap yourselves in to your early 2000s green dodge caravan with the skateboard stickers on the bumper and head over here before those burritos run out, you punk.

We loved this place! We stopped in after 3 days in BBNP and wish we would have along the way. Great coffee & burritos. They support locally and I found a couple pair of cute earrings. They have so much to offer, even for vegetarians. They carry Amy’s brand canned and frozen foods. Things you may have forgotten going into BBBP. If you don’t need anything, just stop in to say hello 😊

Great general store with a selection of packaged and yummy prepared food and baked items. I also enjoyed the events out back like burger night, crawfish boil, gospel brunch with music, tamales, fresh donuts, locals and tourists alike. Great fun!

This is the place to go if you need some camping gear, breakfast burritos, goumet coffee, or basic food items. The Freanch Company Grocer is a great little general store, just a short walk from the Gage Hotel. Michael provided pleasant efficient service. Don't forget to pick up a Marathon Volunteer Fire Department coffee mug.
