We had a stray dog, running the highway, in front of our house. He was young, friendly, and very thin. I got a slip lead on him, got him into a crate, and gave him food and water. I contacted our local animal shelter. They said they were full, but if I could wait a couple of hours, they would try to make some space for him. He was delivered to them, a couple of hours later. No chip, no collar, but a companionate acceptance into their facility.

Good day,I am writing to express my disappointment with the adoption process at your organization. We recently drove from out of town to adopt a puppy, only to be denied the opportunity because you prioritize giving rescues the first chance to adopt.While I understand the importance of supporting rescue organizations, I believe that this policy is unfair to potential adopters who are willing and able to provide loving homes for your puppies. Additionally, it seems to contradict the advice often given to adopt from shelters rather than buying from breeders.I am concerned that this policy is driven by a desire to maximize revenue rather than placing the best interests of the puppies first. I urge you to reconsider this policy and give all potential adopters an equal opportunity to adopt a puppy from your organization.

Went took look at one dog but another dog found us instead. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We ended up adopting a new family member and could not be happier.

THEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET MONEY-DO NOT RECOMMENDMy husband and I visited and it was fine. No problems with that part. We ended up adopting two very nice cats that were siblings. The cats are still a joy to have.Unfortunately, back in February of this year(over TWO years after we adopted the cats), the shelter filed a lawsuit trying to get money from us because they claimed that I never got the cats vaccinated/fixed.However I DID have them vaccinated and neutered/spayed. They never reached out to ask me or anything.Thankfully I still had the proof of the vaccinations and neuter/spay. So I sent it on over to the court.This problem could’ve been easily avoided.All it would’ve taken was a quick email requesting the proof of vaccinations and neuter/spay. I would have been more than happy to send them over to the shelter. It seems like they’re so money hungry that they had to go to extremes.Up until February, I was recommending their shelter to many friends and family. I will no longer do that.I cannot support a shelter that tries to scam people into paying them money.

The people working have an exceptionally tough job. They were super nice and provided a lot of information with honesty. We've been to a few shelters and while their facilities may not be as fancy, they're animals were much calmer and less anxious.

They were extremely caring. I went looking for my niece's missing dog. They took my number in case someone saw her. Three hours later I got a call that someone had just brought her in. They were wonderful about everything.

I’m a volunteer at Lockhart Animal Shelter. If you read the information from the city then you will understand the 30-day contract. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. The shelter is funded by the city and county with some donations. Staff are incredible, dedicated and loving. You can be sure the animals here are well cared for.I’ve been to other shelters that have many more employees and they don’t compare to the diligence of Lockhart Animal Shelter.

I recently adopted a puppy from another shelter and had the unfortunate experience of finding out that the dog was extremely aggressive. The puppy attacked one of the family dogs and in the process bite myself and my mother. I went to this shelter and Jeanie(?), the front desk employee, was incredibly insensitive and uncooperative in helping me to do an owner surrender. She yelled at me and told me “that this was not their issue” and blatantly refused to take the dog. She stated that since I had adopted from a different shelter, I would “need to figure out how to have dog rehomed”. I tried to explain to her how this dog was vicious and I worried about it being readopted and hurting another animal or a small child. I even showed her the bite marks on my hand and legs and she still told me that there was nothing she would do to help. Terrible terrible experience on top of it already being a traumatic and scary day.. go to another shelter where they care about the animal AND the family it’s been welcomed to.

Staff had received in a seriously injured dog and arranged through a rescue group to get him treated. They had made him as comfortable as possible and very carefully loaded him into my car for transport to a veterinary emergency hospital. Very caring people. The dog, now called Lazarus, is doing much better.

Place seems clean enough and the volunteer there at the time was friendly enough however, the vet tech really pissed me off. They offer free euthanasia and I asked if I could go back there with my baby to be with her in her last minutes, the vet tech took her and said let me go check I don't believe so, then they came back with her body bag. I was so mad, I chewed the guy out and told him at least come tell me that I can't be back there. He wouldn't even look me in the eye and mumbled I'm sorry. The stars are solely for the cleanlines of the place our dog was gone before we even finished paperwork. I didn't get a proper goodbye to her. And maybe I'm just being too emotional, but she was in my life since I was 7 and I felt like to them it was just another task to do.

Receptionist was very rude and could care less about helping me with abandoned animal. Someone told me she only makes $10 an hour. She gets paid about $9.95 too much! Volunteers are wonderful there!!

Great people work there. We adopted our Lab there. We were offer another dog for free but we can't handle 3 dogs . Already got one at home. Hope more people would adopt animal there.

So caring and loving towards the animals that are brought in. The staff is amazing, will look for owners through microchips, or posting photos or videos on the Lockhart fb Discussion page. They contact rescue groups and Austin Pets Alive to move animals to a certain adoption. Can't say enough good things about the shelter. There are volunteer walkers for the dogs, larger play areas outside in the shade, AC and Heat in the indoor kennels, always clean.

There's 2 ladies there that are very negative, VERY! & made me feel even worse than I already felt! ☹️ I was trying to take 4 4mo old puppies in Cauz j couldn't keep them anymore, unfortunately 😢 & I am some1 who loves animals, never taken an animal into the shelter b4 in my life! I've only taken them away from the shelter! &, When my kitty went missing, I had checked over there to see if possibly he was there, so I could get him back! However, this time, I had to bring some puppies to the shelter, because my landlord here wouldn't allow me to keep them, & she was going to make us move if I didn't get rid of them 😔 & I hv my babies to think about now!, they will alwayz come first b4 anybody else, including myself! So, I need to keep this house for my babies, my kids! But, those 2 ladies there were SO RUDE! & in front if my babies, too!! They were treating me like I was just another random terrible heartless person bringing animals to the shelter! I told them I already feel bad enough, & I almost started to cry! & I told them I hate having to bring them here, probably more than y'all do! Cauz see, those ladies DON'T KNW ME... Obviously!! & itz not part of their job to be SO RUDE & JUDGEMENTAL & DISRESPECTFUL!!! They should only do their job! & take care of the animals! & maybe they should consider the fact that maybe not all of the people that take animals there are terrible people! In fact, it's probably hard for most people, & yes of course there are those terrible people, as there are everywhere, but it's not part of their job for them to decide. Also, what happened to innocent until Proven guilty anyway! Even heartless criminals get that much respect!! Those ladies were so rude, & asked me what happened, which was fine, but then... interrupted me when I started to talk! with, nevermind we don't even wanna knw, we've been hearing it all day, so we don't even wanna hear anymore, we're tired of it & I still tried to tell them & they just kept interrupting, the 1 lady was the rudest, she even just walked out, both of them talked to me so ugly & treated me like a terrible heartless kind of person! I mean what kind of customer service is that... That's what was terrible! & I did still go ahead & say what happened anyway, even after being interrupted numerous times!! And, I thought those ladies were so ugly, I didn't even want to take my puppies in there, fir them tkt take care of to find homes, because, talk about terrible... THOSE 2 LADIES were terrible!!

Brought a very loving lost cat there,left in tears. Receptionist was annoyed from the start. Last words from her was "you cant save them all"...... I will never go there again! Felt like I made a bad decision. I would want someone to bring my lost buddy somewhere I could find her.

This shelter is amazing, they have so many different types of canine companions available to choose from. They do not provide parvo shots or treatments for deworming though just a heads up.

Good people kinda overwhelmed with stray and abandoned cats and dogs. Please spay and neuter your cats and dogs...weird relatives...and politicians/lawyers!!!

Found a stray dog with a dislocated hip wandering the property. These people took her in and got her fixed up. Service with a smile and a nice dog saved.
