Friendly and informative, the process of adopting our puppy was wonderful ❤️ We called ahead to let them know who we were hoping to make the newest member of our family, so when we arrived they brought 'Buda' out to meet us. Within 30 minutes, we had our little guy, along with deadlines clearly marked for various shots and neutering. The girls were great!! Thank you for such a fun and memorable experience!

All of the staff is very helpful. They go above and beyond to help all the animals that are brought into the shelter. Trying to find homes for the animals is a full-time job. Great facility.

We drove 30 minutes and arrived at 1045 to see a dog we saw on the website to be told adoptions stop at 11:00. We asked to see a dog and we’re told we had to have an appointment. The person at the shelter said this information is posted on their website. When we left the facility and looked at the website these instructions are not listed. We wanted to meet a dog that has been at the shelter for 3 months but told we couldn’t. How sad for the dogs at the shelter that a perspective adopter was turned away.

Someone stole my Sadie Ann off her lead out of my yard and took her to animal control everyone there knew where she belonged and helped me Pay all the fees for her being there and needing booster shots, it was a vindictive act by a horrible person in order to try to hurt my family...but all staff there are wonderful men and women and all pitched in to the fees I could not afford to bring her home. Below was my beautiful Sadi Ann

Never been inside the facility but did try to contact them regarding neighbors dogs that bark literally all day long. And most days until 11 or so at night. And not just a bark here and there but consistent barking. Non stop. Guy named Joe I was emailing with told me there were “no dogs” when he went by (these dogs have been in the front yard every single day since I’ve lived here, and I sent him video proof) After that he told me basically I could take my neighbors to court or get over it even though his job is noise ordinance enforcement. It was obvious that he truly did not care or do much investigating. Even as I write this review I’ve been listening to the dogs bark for two straight hours. It’s extremely frustrating not being able to relax or even fall asleep at a decent time because these animals NEVER stop until the owner brings them in around 10 or 11 at night.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE or read the fine print closely and consult a vet before signing ANYTHING.I’m so relieved that these people are out of my life now. This shelter does not care about the safety of your pet. They do not take into account the expertise of veterinarians when it comes to the deadlines they have you agree too. They don’t care that clinics are booked months out past the deadlines the decide on. If you do not meet their deadlines they will issue you a fine/misdemeanor.The only silver lining is that I spared my pet from being stuck here.If you adopt here, get a vet ready first and consult them before signing anything.

I adopted 2 kittens from this shelter. I saved 2 kitty's lives being that this is a kill shelter. My kitties received all their shots on time, were spayed at the proper time, taken to the vet when they were sick ... I have spent about $2000 on these kitties in a year. Very well taken care of babies. During this time I was also dealing with the very quick death of my 57 year old brother. I apparently received citations, that to this day I have never seen, & over $500 in fines for not turning in my paperwork on vaccinations & spaying at the proper time to the shelter. All shots & spays were done in time they just received the proof late. After receiving proof they still refused to dismiss citations. I believe in saving animals from these high kill shelters but it's a bitter pill to swallow when these institutions are willing to go to an extra length to receive funding. It seems to me that the director of this shelter (if truly an animal advocate) should be happy she did not have to kill these 2 cats & knowing they are in a good home. As big as an advocate as I am in adopting from high kill shelters it's hard for me to recommend one that it so underhanded.

Took a dog to be adopted & was accepted. The next day I was called & told to come get him because we didn't live in the county. I had to go back to the kennel to get him. He was doing ok with me until to of the girls stepped out where he could see them & he started trying to fighting. I told him we were going to my car. They put the choke hold on him. I told him to follow me. He had no problem following me to my car. I feel he was mistreated by the two girls because. The supervisor said he tried to bite her mutiple times. He has never been aggressive & was just laying in his cage not bothering anyone. I do not remember seeing any water in his cage either.

We found a sweet stay dog and took her in there. The staff was very friendly and they have lots of space. Please don't dump your animals on the country roads. Take them here and maybe someone else will give them the love you can't.

I had to surrender a small dog I had because my 2 yr old was too rough with her and I didn't want her to get hurt. The lady that was there was ok, she wasn't very friendly. She asked me to fill out papers and asked if I had her shot records, which I did so I gave them to her. After I left I said goodbye to my dog and I told her I hoped she got a good home, the lady completely ignored me and took my dog away. After a few days I waited to see if they posted her on their Facebook page and I never saw her posted.I told my sister to ask what had happened to her and they were very short with us, didn't give us any details at all. Just that she went to a "rescue."I know surrendering a dog is frowned upon but I wanted a better home for mine because I knew she was a good girl and I couldn't give her a better home at the time with my 2 little ones.I did not really enjoy my visit and I felt very judged.

Very concerning conditions here. They will not allow you to see where the dogs are kept. The cats are shoved in a room with filthy litter boxes. The staff is extremely rude. This is a kill shelter and staff is doing nothing to get these animals adopted out.

They are a kill shelter. They use their own expertise opinion to determine if a cat is feral versus scared. I know for a fact their logic is flawed. They've gotten sexes mixed up as well and thought my daughter's cat was feral. He never had a chance. And they do not give a cat THEY deem as feral 72 hours which is state law.

Ad3optee my baby Drogo ( Pumpkin) here. They were super helpful while we were choosing a pup and he came with a great jump start on shots plus his microchip (which made its way out so they did it again, no charge). We love this shelter and are very sad that due to budget determined by outside forces they are still a kill shelter and arent even allocated for food expense. Please, please adopt an animal from a shelter (especially this one!) And try to donate food to help them out, community involvement and help are huge factors in helping our local shelters make improvements and take the best care of the animals they have.

This is a KILL shelter. As days pass and the animals even make it through corenteen. If no adoption happens, the Animals are put to death. Call Buchanan Dam animal shelter. If turning in a pet. They are a no kill just miles down the road. Worth the ride to save a life.

Take the road down Creek RD. You'll see an auto place and keep going. Its tucked away and difficult to get to but the service is incredible and the animals, ( exotic included ) are well taken care of by the staff.

Our car was one of six that was broken into for the month. I would think they might install cameras or at least warn their customers.
