Saturday, March 30 my boyfriend and I adopted a three month old puppy from this location. Ever since we got him he’s been doing OK but we noticed that he was a bit lethargic and that he Was having diarrhea and vomiting. It didn’t happen too often for concerned, and we just assumed that it was due to having a new puppy and introducing him to a new diet. We noticed that he was consistently thirsty, and his diarrhea never cleared up.We were positive that nothing was wrong with him, because we did have paperwork of him having his necessary vaccines and medical checks. On Sunday, we decided to read the paperwork of all of his health records and noticed that he was diagnosed with upper respiratory Disease that he was supposed to still be receiving treatment for! After recognizing that this Humane Society were not properly taken care of their dogs and going over records to make sure that they are up-to-date and finished with necessary medication. I lost all respect and hope that our dog was OK.We took him to a veterinary clinic outside of the free ones that they Advertised to us. Veterinarian was able to tell us that he tested positive for Parvovirus. I can’t believe that I just received a positive Parvo puppy from a Humane Society. This is the type of thing I would expect from a puppy mill. We hope that we caught the illness early! We still love our dog and we’re thankful that we have him but this is absolutely careless and I advise caution to anyone who’s looking to adopt a new family member from the Humane Society. Unfortunately, they are closed on Mondays and I’m not able to reach out to them yet but I will be tomorrow. Before you were done with the adoption process, make sure that the Medical history, they give you is up-to-date, and that they have completed all the necessary procedures that they should have listed on the paper! We Pray that our new puppy is OK and I will be updating this review in the future.Update #1We were not able to receive reimbursement and were told that we have to accept what comes with happens with a puppy. Basically, “you’re alone and it’s your fault that you were lead to believe the dog was healthy.“We’ve created a gofundme to assist in our puppy’s medical bills. Please consider supporting us.https://gofund.me/7e5e3ad3

Me and my boyfriend were looking for a dog that would be great with kids since we’ll be having a baby pretty soon and Estrella got recommended to us. As soon as we met her we knew she was our forever dog. She’s been apart of our family for a little over a month now and we couldn’t be happier on making the decision to adopt her We thank DFW Humane Society for making the adoption process so smooth and introducing us to our sweet girl!

excellent place, I went there for pet food donations as I have fallen on hard times as of late. For my two cats they gave me two cases of wet treats, and a quite large bag of Nulo duck based dry cat food, very good quality. No questions asked.

Adopted my first kitten here. Hands down the best experience! The volunteers and workers there are all so friendly and the facility is so well kept and clean! We went to a few before coming here but after we found this shelter, we couldn't go anywhere else and returned here until we found one we liked. They're not all kept in dirty cages and unsocialized. You're free to play with all of them and best of all, it's a no kill shelter! I refuse to go anywhere else!

Thank you DFW Humane Society for the newest addition to my family. I arrived at your facility where every staff member was so kind and helpful. He's very much spoiled already and it's just been day one. We've decided to name him Alfie. Thank you again!

Horrible customer service. Staff will stare at you and talk badly about you in front of you. They ignore requests and will lie about having someone come out to help. They are also a kill shelter, they put down animals when they are too full and have an animal for too long. Shameful practices

Animals are all out on display and the Dallas animal shelter is just on the other side. Right now all animals over a year are for free.

Super organized clean and friendly. I never adopted a cat before and this place rocks. Rules are a little different due to covid. You must arrive and call when your here and wait for a call back. I was 1st in line and only waited 5 minutes. They open at 12 noon not 11 as posted on website. I am taking a cat home today and very happy.

They take really good care of the animals here. Sure, they're bored and lonely in their cages, but they're clean and well-fed and loved by the staff.

I went in there to adopt today (which I did, two beautiful girl kittens) and I’m still very mad because I think her name was Katie I’m not sure but she was one of the ladies on the right side when you first walk in,she was very nice at first when I went out and found her but then all the sudden she got rude. She was getting rude about the whole situation with my apartments and she was even snapping at her other coworker on the side and even a customer asked me if I was okay because she was being rude to me and everyone. She was laughing historically which was odd, and was being rude at the same time.. and then my husband had to call up while he was at work because I don’t deal with conflict, the manager dealt with it but she came out and started more stuff and the whole time she was walking by she kept giving dirty looks. then had the balls to tell me “well you will have 5 animals” it doesn’t matter how many I have, all of like are well taken care of, all of my animals are update on shot records.

Strange experience...Saw a guinea pig on PetfinderCalled the number based on the listing number and hoursAnd spoke to a someone/obtained information about the availability of pets and adoption fee. Awesome! 🙂 Was excited, visited the address...but the doors were locked.. ? There was a listed number, so I called, a lady came out "why.. are..you here?" This address is listed as having pets for adoption, so obviously to inquire about pets., But anyway, I informed them that I spoke to someone about the guineas on the phone, & apparently that area of the department is closed on Thursdays.. okay, that would have been good to know and maybe I could have just visited another day! 🙂 Instead the lady proceeded to say "i have to check if someone heard something like that, or did you really come here because you saw the guinea pigs in the window"I share with her that I called earlier and was informed about the adoption fee. Not sure why she assumed I'd be lying? 😕 Then she leaves and another lady comes out "who did you speak to? When?" I share again the same information, she leaves and returns "the officer said she spoke and shared the information with you on the phone but she did not tell you to come here..." 🤦The lady gave me so much attitude! It was so sad! 😕 I said "if I had known that department was closed i wouldn't have come." I then left, disappointed with the treatment and experience. This sweet place has never greeted me like this before, the Irving community is better than this. They basically accused me of lying about being there? Just bizarreOn a good note the guinea pigs were inside, their food bowls were stocked and they had veggies, so that's why I give it a 2/5

We have used their services three times over the course of around 12 years. First time was with a stray that had two litters of kittens. She was caught using their cage fixed and then she was released.Second time was to catch another stray that had a litter of kittens and her mate. She was also fixed and let go. The mate though seemed like he was someone's house cat and I'm assuming they adopted him out or found his owner. And finally most recently the original stray that 12 years ago we brought there, got extremely sick and had to be put down. They took care of it. I cannot speak for how they work behind the desk, but everything I've dealt with them went smoothly. The biggest problem they have is staffing and opening hours. They had to recently change their hours due to staffing shortages.

People working here are very helpful. Our adaption process was smooth and super easy. There are a lot of pets waiting to be adopted and welcome them into their houses. I recently adopted a kitten from DFW humane society. You can go interact with pets and feel comfortable before making the decision. There's a one time addition fee or donation for the pet. They are doing an amazing job. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

Great pets are ready to take home. They need love, stability, and nurturing. You can make a difference in a pet's life. I adopted a precious dog that I wholeheartedly love!

Went to have my mom's dog to sleep (he had prostate cancer and it was recommended by the vet as no surgery could fix it). They were super nice and accommodating but we didn't get to stay with him during the process. It was free of charge as we are residents, so that was nice.

Facility was very clean and friendly and had a good selection of animals but I agree with the previous poster who said they will can and sell you a sick pet. I adopted a kitten last week and we love the kitty but I noticed she sneezed several times while we were playing with her at the facility. Before signing the contract I asked about the sneezing because I was wary of paying $85 plus immediate medical costs for an already sick cat. I asked if they would have a vet examine her before we took her and they said no because you get a free exam within ten days at one of their approved outside vets AFTER you adopt. They also told me she hadn’t sneezed up to now and the sneezing could be anything or nothing— maybe she just got cat litter in her nose and doesn’t mean kitty is sick. So I took the bait and my young son was with me and he loved the cat so it was hard to say no at that point. Lesson learned. It’s been three days and she is still sneezing and sneezing all the time so will already have to take her to the vet to treat that (probably an Upper respiratory infection)after paying $85 to DFW humane society for her not even a week ago. They give you a packet of info after you adopt (I recommend you ask to read it before you pay and sign) and it states they don’t guarantee the health of the animals and won’t exchange or refund for non-fatal illnesses like upper respiratory infections or kennel cough. Obviously that language is there for a reason.Just beware that their job is to get animals adopted into homes and you may not get the full story about illnesses up front from them even when you ask or they may downplay it. For that reason I’d give DFW humane a 3 for not being fully transparent; there are other adoption centers that are strict about not releasing the kitty for adoption until they are cleared of infections. Also adopted a sick kitty years ago from pet smart and they were transparent about the kittys illness and sent us home with meds and a few free vet vouchers for follow up visits, as well as following up with us to make sure kitty was recovering well. So buyer beware. When you’re paying that much for an adoption and making a commitment to care for the pet, to me you want the adoption center to work with you. So off to the vet we go!

Had a great experience at this facility. Animals are wells taken care of, staff is great. Best part of all is they don’t euthanize their animals and take care of them until they get adopted (unlike the facility next to them).

If I could give zero stars I would. They adopt out sick animals knowing they are no where near healthy and then when you have depleted your resources trying to save an animal…. They guilt trip you if you have to bring the animal back and tell you well if they are sick they will be euthanized. Super unprofessional and if they really wanted to adopt animals out to loving homes they should make sure the animal is healthy enough to leave their facility and not have the potential to get brought back due to their negligence.

Very clean. Animals appear to be well cared for. Good spacious cages that were clean. Big dogs were secure in good sized cages. So much of big dogs showed characteristics of bull dogs. All showed they are well fed. As an Irving resident, I am so proud that we have such a clean, well cared for animal shelter & I want to volunteer to give the animals some petting & loving.

We adopted Shadow on Saturday! She is a great kitty. I was very impressed with the people there and the conditions in which the animals live. The volunteers spend time with the animals and show them love, which, I believe, helps the animals when they are adopted.Took her for her free medical exam yesterday and the vet said she is in great health!I highly recommend the humane society!!

I’ve been volunteering with the DFW Humane Society since end of 2019. I can whole heartedly say, every single human in this organization wants the best for animals and will do whatever it takes to make sure the furkids are ok. They’re very personable and friendly.Sarah is very passionate about her work and not only she shows extra effort (that we rarely see nowadays in our society) to make sure an animal’s urgent needs are taken care of. She does not easily give up.Michael and I have been working together for the photoshoots I do for them; brainstorming ideas for the themes and more. He’s the marketing guru of the organization and always has some brilliant idea to showcase the furkids available for adoption. Since the day I stepped foot to the building, he always made sure I had everything I needed to successfully complete the sessions.Katharine is known for being the strays’ hero - you will often hear about her most recent possum/skunks/squirrel and other animals’ rescue that live among us.So many more heroes behind the scenes that I can’t list now (character limit is a thing!) but please do support these wonderful humans and the organization. They put in so much from their life and being a non-profit, they continue operating with the help of their volunteers and donors.I’m so happy and grateful to be part of being such an amazing group.

Worst place to adopt! I’ve been looking at a dog ALL WEEK, but he wasn’t available til Friday. Okay, great! Friday comes I was told to just call to make sure he’s here and ready. I called immediately soon as the shelter opened. The front desk person told me that “NO ONE COULD ADOPT THE DOG I WANTED BECAUSE HE HAS NOT WENT THROUGH SURGERY”. My response, “Okay, well can I still come and pay the fee and do paperwork?” Her reply, “No ma’am. The dog will still be here, so come Saturday morning and get him.” My reply, “awesome I will be there at 7:30 in the morning.” Saturday is here and I’m waiting at 7:30 in my car until 10. The door open and I don’t go look at the dog because I already know she said the dog will be here. The volunteer and myself looking and we were told the dog is gone!! By that time I’m pissed to the max!!!!! I have been looking and waiting for this dog to become available and the workers don’t even know proper procedures!!! FOLLOW YOUR WORD! If you don’t know something ASK! I️ was told the person who got the dog was able to play with the dog. Keep in mind that the worker went to surgery to get the dog and took him to the front. She told me that I️ couldn’t even do that! Beyond upset and hurt! My feelings were completely crushed. They will never see me again! Workers don’t even care! The volunteers are great! Worst workers. The supervisor wasn’t helpful as well! She didn’t care at all!
