She pulls it off and I support and appreciate her- Having a bunch of chickens in one location is very difficult- especially during the heat. Chickens are meant to roam the property and they stay very healthy on their own this way... keeping chickens healthy and available for sale in such volume is very difficult and expensive. I have used many online chicken services over the last 5 years. I found Blue Star Ranch over 1 year ago and will never use another company that ships chickens to me again. I get to go to an actual farm and hand pick my chickens now! The last time I went there in September 2023 and picked up 11 chickens. I also purchased the replacement option. I ended up losing some chickens due to my own fault and this last weekend Blue Star Ranch honored the replacement option and replaced my chickens. This is something you will never get from an online supplier. I live in Katy and have used Blue Star Ranch 3 times over the last 2 years. I used to buy my chickens online and after using Blue Star I will never use anyone else again! Thank you for being a close affordable and trustworthy option for chickens in my area! I will definitely come back!

I originally just left a 1 star review with no written review because I saw how the owner treated negative reviews. But now I see that 2 years later they are comment spamming all the negative reviews so I feel compelled to write about why I gave a negative review.I bought two pullets from Blue Star and within a few days of having them they started sneezing. Luckily, I had them in quarantine prior to introducing them to my other chickens because after a two weeks they both died. (Always keep new chickens away from your flock at first.) I even took them to the vet and there was nothing to be done. Read the other negative reviews and the comments on them to see the type of person you are buying from.

I had such a good time going to get these birds. They’re super healthy and gorgeous! If you are looking to buy chickens, this lady really knows her stuff and has all kinds of chickens of different ages. I just bought 3 and couldn’t be happier. I drove an hour and a half to get there and would do it all again for sure.

I recommend purchasing chickens elsewhere, I have had a terrible time as a result of this place - it was over priced and has since cost me a fortune in vet bills, medicine, and time fretting over and losing half my chicks.About a month ago I bought 4 chicks of ages 2 weeks, 4-5 weeks, and 8 weeks. I didn't pick out the chicks, the owner did based on which ones "looked the best", and one immediate problem was that age difference - the 8 week old is very dominant and bullied the other chicks. While she was looking for chicks for me, she threw many back saying they "didn't look good" or "weren't up to her standards", claiming she only sells A grade chickens. I look back at that moment and wonder - why does she have chicks that don't look right mixed in with all the others?I brought my babies home and problems emerged immediately and grew in the coming weeks. Lethargy, sneezing, horrible eye infections that spread to 3 of the 4, discharge from beaks and mouthes, hunched up postures, failure to grow and thrive, and many other symptoms emerged. The 2 week old baby died first the day I took 3 of the chicks to the vet before I had much time to help it, it had the eye infection in both eyes and was struggling to eat and drink. Today, my sweet rhode island red Pumpkin, who I have been tirelessly hand feeding, medicating (ointment on her eye, vetrx for her breathing, antibiotics for her water, etc all multiple times a day), and keeping in my house with me passed away after weeks of struggling and suffering.I write this because I don't want other people going through what I have. This business is under staffed for how many chickens they have and not adequately practicing bio-security. Therefore people like me are taking home sweet chicks, getting attached, then watching them wither. Please do not support this business, if I had known what I know now I certainly wouldn't have. It is unsanitary, cruel, and expensive.

Even before I got to Blue Star Ranch Mary Ann helped inform me about the vast world of chickens, I am just starting out and she helped a lot. She was very knowledgeable and told me several bits of knowledge. When I went she had a great selection of chickens of all ages and breeds!!!! My wife and I went to buy chickens today at Blue Star Farms - we had seen other larger hatcheries in the Austin area, but this was the only one that would help on the weekend!We got 4 Golden Star chickens, and all were healthy and happy. Mary Ann takes great care of the chickens, and you could tell they were all in top condition.She also makes custom chicken coops, so if you need one built you're going to get one of the best!

Mary Ann was an absolute delight to visit for her Barn Sale. I thoroughly enjoy her way of being candid and very direct, as I am so myself. She was very helpful with helping me select items to purchase. She helped me select items to build future flock coops and rabbit hutches. She even gave me a tour of her barn. This company used to be in Austin, the lady that runs it should be incarcerated for animal cruelty. Unfortunately the chickens I got from her were sick and wiped out my whole flock. I wouldn’t buy anything from her. I’m sure she will have a snarky reply to this, it’s how she operates. Read her 1-star reviews. They are all spot on to my experience dealing with her.

*EDIT*2 years later the company decides to blame me AND spam every single bad review with the same horrible customer blaming response. This is not my first rodeo raising chickens and I've never had any issues bringing birds into my flock. The conditions these chickens are raised in are breeding grounds for sick birds. I did contact the seller when my flock got sick and they were unresponsive. I also was not told of any 911/health policies in place, so I'm guessing this is a new addition to their business. Every single 1 star review speaking to their flock getting sick and the living condition of these birds is 100% accurate. I still do not recommend getting any birds from this place - unless you're starting a fresh flock with no intention of introducing other birds to them. Overpriced, and the women who runs this place is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered doing business with.*ORIGINAL POST*I traded 3 roosters for 3 hens and within a week my flock had CRD and now it looks like a case of fowl pox has begun showing signs in a couple of my chickens. My flock was completely healthy before bringing the new birds in. Luckily none have died yet, but it’s been a nightmare figuring out how to take care of them. Never coming back here again.

We have had chickens for the last two years and have been fairly successful. We have a small flock with only 8 birds at this time. If there one thing I know, it is you can always learn. And boy did I learn a lot by just speaking to Mary Ann over the phone. As of late we have been having a few issues with egg production and chickens losing feathers...and they aren't molting. She is very helpful and has a great knowledge of what we are doing right and what we are doing wrong.If you need chicks or chickens, she has those too. Just give her a call and see for yourself.

My wife and I went out there to pick up our first chickens. We had virtually no idea of how to raise chickens when we arrived to make our purchase. Mary Ann (The Chicken Lady) sat down with us and explain everything we needed to know. My wife asks a lot of questions and Mary Ann never tired of giving us detailed responses. By the end of our consultation, we left with two beautiful Rhode Island Red chickens (7 months old), a bag of feed, a feeder and a water dispenser, some nice material for bedding and nesting, and a whole lot of confidence. My children and I traveled from Wharton Texas to Industry to have the Blue Star Ranch experience. My daughter found Blue Star Ranch on the internet while looking for places to purchase chicks. We chose them because they seemed very knowledgeable and had a verity of chicks available. We gave Mary Ann a courtesy heads up as we were headed her way. When we got there she warmly welcomed us to her farm. She walked us right through choosing the right chicks and provided great helpful tips along the way since she knew we were first time chicky buyers. I bought 2 baby chicks from Mary Ann and she was so helpful during the whole process. This is our 1st time buying chicks. She explained how to care for them and she answered all of our questions. My family met Mary Ann in late April when we decided it was finally time to start our backyard flock. She was extremely helpful in answering our myriad questions, but even more telling was how sweet she was with our kids. She took the time to explain to us about the different breeds, which ones may work best for us, how they interact if we wanted different breeds. She was patient, knowledgeable and kind. (She is clearly a grandma!) We happily took our chubby little chicks home and felt armed with solid info on raising chickens. I called her once or twice in the past couple of months for advice, and she happily talked us through our questions. She also offers a rooster return policy, which is rare.We've been back out to buy more feed and have loved talking to her about our chickens and showing her photos of them. Our chickens are healthy, happy girls.I also want to note that each time we've been out there (3X now), we've noted that Mary Ann is constantly improving the ranch. She clearly cares about her chickens and invests in their well-being.

Bought 5 pullets and 1 hen from this farm. Next day, one was dead and after messaging her and she just said "It happens. You probably overhandled them". Anyways, 2 weeks later another one died as well.Fast forward a couple months and one of the crows....yup, a rooster. Contacted her to switch and her customer service was terrible. Told me I had to have bought her "chicken insurance " to be able to exchange him for the hen I PAID for. I paid her price of $40 for what turned out to be a rooster.Definitely do not recommend, would give ZERO stars if possible!!!!

As someone who has raised chickens for almost 3 years and looks to expand our flock, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! First of all, it's wildly overpriced. The attraction to "rare" breeds may attract the chicken enthusiast like myself. The "access to the chicken lady" may attract the newbies. But STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! There's a reason they don't take electronic payments and it has nothing to do with "theft". If you send someone money through Cashapp you do so at your own peril. There is no way to get that money back. The reason they do cash or barter only is because they don't want any trace of selling you sick chickens. The "farm" is a disease pit with unhealthy birds constantly being given medicated water. You can ask to take a look at all the birds and you will see inflammation in the eyes. The moment you take these very expensive birds home and aren't continuing treatment, they will get very ill and probably die. Truly rare breeds should cost no more than about $40 for a laying hen. This con artist wants upwards of $60 for what she calls "rare breeds" but actually aren't. Look elsewhere. You can buy Cream Legbar chicks at TSC for like $1 a piece. That is a more rare breed, but not a true rare breed. Mary Ann wants 10-15x the money. Notice how all the 1 star reviews have the most likes and many come from experienced chicken owners. Take that with some weight. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Do your own research online on raising chickens and buy from a reputable place. If you have an existing flock you will bring disease to your whole flock if you buy these chickens. MARY ANN IS A CON ARTIST THAT MUST BE INVESTIGATED BY THE STATE.

I purchased chicks from her 5 months ago and when I opened the door to the coop one chicken ran out and dropped to her side on the ground. Then jumped up as I approached her. I called Blue star ranch and she was very helpful and explained this is how she was “sun bathing”. It’s very scary to think she may be ill so it was a relief when I was able to talk to someone who reassured me that she was probably just needing a little sunlight. And my chicken is doing just fine and is as healthy as the rest of the flock.
