So happy I got Sahara, a pineapple green cheek conure, back in January. He’s healthy, was easy to train, and beautiful too. The gentleman who I assumed was the owner helped guess the gender which turned out to be correct (I got Sahara gender tested). The gentlemen was also helpful and genuine the whole time I was in the store. Even offered to give me some free bird food when I noticed I was a dollar short on cash during check out.

My experience in the store wasn’t surprising as most pet stores mistreat and have smaller housing than necessary for animals. I went to find a new pet and bought two guinea pigs. The two i wanted (color wise) were in different cages so i asked plenty of times if they were the same gender. The first one i wanted was female. So i wanted another female. The two i picked had longer hair that was kinda curly, i liked that and wanted those two specifically. After asking about 2 people twice if they were both female they reassured me all they had was female. Which was a weird statement because why wouldn’t u have boy guinea pigs. After bothering me with sale tactics i left with my two very young guinea pigs, a starter cage and some wooden chips they insisted on me having. This was in September. Now in December i have a pregnant guinea pig. The first guinea pig i picked was a male and the one from the other cage was a female. After repeat my asking them!! This means i now have to build another cage and double my expenses, because i have to separate them to prevent future pregnancies. I got two guinea pigs because they like to have a buddy, i would want a buddy too. So now do i not only have to decide between getting rid of one of my beloved guinea pigs or having four guinea pigs yo keep everyone happy. That would only be possible if she gives birth to a boy and a girl. I got guinea pigs because i love small animals and have previously owned rabbits. I was upset and called them, the lady on the phone was rude and stated “she didn’t know what to tell me” and i “definitely have a mating pair, if they came from different cages.” She said i could donate the babies to them when they are born. Yeah if my guinea pig survives, and hopefully it’s not her brother she just mated with. Don’t trust these people when they give u an answer on an animals gender, you may end up like me and unwanted babies. Other than that the piggies are cute and healthy.

I go here every Saturday for feeder mice and ever since my first visit i loved it! The workers and the animals are the best! And so nice as well. The prices are cheaper than most at petco and petsmart (mainstream stores). And the animals are pretty and in good conditions. I bought a snake from here as well and it was a beautiful pastel ball python, only 75 dollars! i was even able to return her with no complications. (Returned for nothing bad dont worry)! My current snake is very healthy and happy. Most of his supplies are from here, as well as his food :). Im getting a ferret soon for my birthday (jan 25) and im happy to be there soon! I love S&S!!

Thank you S & S for the service and time you give us the customers. The treatment I receive every time I go there is polite, respectful and courteous. Respect should be given where deserved and these people know and care for their animals and I respect that. The knowledge they have on what they are selling is mind blowing. Not only do they sell you what you need to take proper care of your animal, they answer any questions you might have. They take good care of their customers and don't sell you something just to sell it. That is good business and I respect that. Go to these big chain pet store and I wish you the very best of luck because you don't know what you will be getting. They will sell you things that you don't need for the care of your pet and they buy their animals in bulks that come from questionable place. At S & S they breed their animals and also help find homes for animals that have been brought to them because the families can no longer take care of them. Being educated on a topic is not giving someone attitude, it's having the knowledge to know what you are doing and what you are talking about. I am happy to say that I will continue to be a loyal customer of theirs. Not only do I get my babies from them, I get my supplies and feed for all my babies. My sister also feels the same way. We trust them with the care of all our babies and we have one too many. I already told the owner to add me to the "Do not allow to purchase anymore babies" list. FYI, I live a block away from another pet shop that is not a big chain and is very well recognized and I drive the extra 20 minutes just to go to S & S because I feel very comfortable going to S & S instead. I also enjoy seeing them be part of the reptilian expos. I have shared some pictures of my babies that I have gotten from them and some that receive their feeds from them. My babies are very healthy.

Someone told me about this place and for the first time checking it out it was amazing. I have my baby marshmallow(tarantula) and the crickets/worms are so cheap and four alot. I really recommend this place. It has alot of things plus animals its a store for reptile and amphibian lovers and pet owners.

I’m extremely disappointed with this place. I’ve been in the past to get critters and it was wonderful, but that was years ago. I still have my SPBE tarantula from a couple years ago that’s doing great though. I don’t know if there was a change in management or they lack staff to care for these animals but whatever it is, it’s showing. Recently I got 2 jumping spiders (this isn’t my first rodeo with them as I use to raise baby spoods on top of having multiple adults). Within 24 hours of having them the male died with maggots coming out of him. I should’ve known something was wrong with how nasty and dirty the container they had him was. They allowed me to go back and get another one for free without any hesitation which was nice, but shortly after that my female passed away (I believe it’s because she’s older than they thought she was. She had already lost grip and struggled to climb her enclosure when I was taking her home which can indicate old age) . I have never had this issue with my spiders. This means they are not taken care of properly while they are there and are not well educated on them. It breaks my heart that a place I use to recommend to everyone I can no longer have high expectations for.

I hate to write this but I have an obligation as an animal lover. I’ve been going here for years and ended up getting my first snake here. He was completely healthy, the staff was amazing, and everything seemed better than your run-of-the-mill pet store. I ended up buying a snake a few years later and she went downhill quickly… She was infested with mites and seemed unwell. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured they just didn’t give her a thorough check. I already had her home when I found the mites and gave her a closer look (fault on my part) but decided to treat it. She passed about a week later. I convinced myself it was the breeder's (or wherever they got it from) fault and they’re GOOD people. I got another snake from them as a gift from my parents. The snake was extremely aggressive and COVERED in mites. This time I pointed them out to the owner and went back twice for her to “treat” them. She sprayed this weird essential oil-smelling stuff on the snake and called it a day. I ended up just bringing her back and asking for a refund because of how extreme the issue was. She huffed and puffed about the snake having no mites (I had pictures of them crawling up my arms, she didn't want to see it or hear about it.) She was extremely rude about a refund. She was adamant to her workers and us about the snake not having mites. I had my other snakes/reptiles to think about and didn’t want to risk it. So after years of buying supplies from here, I can’t support someone who doesn’t care for the animals. I truly hope they upgrade their care of these animals. It’s not just the reptiles they have in poor conditions (temporary or not). So please, if you buy from here be extremely cautious.

Visited here for some fuzzy mice to feed my Colorado River Toads. They have a huge selection of exotic pets and animals. My girlfriend was trying to convince me to get a baby porcupine to cuddle with 🤣 lots of reptiles, herps, birds, and various animals I've only ever seen a the zoo before. One of the workers was checking on us and I told her about needing a female Colorado River Toad and she told me she could put me on a list to let me know if they ever got one which I found helpful. I initially only came for the fuzzy feeder mice which were $1.29 I believe, but ended up leaving with some driftwood to add to my toads terrarium. I'd frequent this location more often if it wasn't so far away but I'll be back!

From the bottom of my heart, please please do not support S & S Exotic Animals. I understand it seems like they have been a staple for the community for quite a while. However, they will absolutely sell you a sick animal. They absolutely will sell you an animal infested with mites and/or parasites. They will absolutely lie to you about the origin of the animal, and they will absolutely do it all with a smile on their face. I have heard too many stories, I have seen too many examples. We don’t want a refund, we don’t want an exchange. We want you to promote honest business practices and care for the animals under your care. We want you to sell healthy animals, or at least fully disclose the issues the animal may have. Selling sick animals to beginner keepers is a disgusting practice, and you have forever lost my business as well as so many others.Houston Reptile Community. I beg of you to demand better care for these animals and do not support facilities that cannot properly care for said animals. If you’d like to hear my story, or the countless others, please reach out and ask. If you have a story yourself, I ask that you share it here.

I LOVE S&S, I’ve been a faithful customer for years , I tell everyone I meet about them. Even if you’re not buying a pet currently, I told people they need to go just to see because they have animals there that you’ve never seen before. It’s like an exotic pet zoo store. You have to go just for the experience. The owner staff are great. The animals are amazing and they have everything you could possibly need there! Go, just for the experience and take your kids, your friends, etc. You won’t be disappointed!

I am writing this review from my own experience and an almost identical situation from another pet owner on a reptile FB page. DO NOT BUY EMERALD TREE BOAS FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY WILL SELL YOU A SICK ANIMAL AND LIE TO YOU ABOUT THEM. We got our snake from them at an EXPO, where you think you can trust breeders, back in 12/2023. Upon the first week, our snake was constantly grounding, very thin, and very weak. She ate, which for this business seemed like the bare minimum of care, but was not THRIVING. When we asked about the TRUE origin of this snake, calling the business several times that day to speak to SOMEONE, we believe someone *accidentally* answered our call and told us our snake was "farm-bred". That was n e v e r told to us when purchasing- we actually were told they were BREEDERS and she was bred by them. This was also the SAME situation with a pet owner we spoke to this WEEK (2/28/24), who purchased a snake from them-only to die a week later. Their response? To give her another (sick) snake, who then was taken to the vet and it was infested with parasites. She was ALSO told her snake was bred by them, which who knows if that's the truth. Please do better, care about your animals S&S for the benefit of the community, and for the sake of living beings.

I drove over an hour for some feeders as there is no one closer to me who sells live feeders, the staff was extremely rude. Cages were over crowded and I could smell the inside from the parking lot. Do not recommend. Rainforest pets is just as far with a lot friendlier staff and cleaner store!

Super cool pet store, I drive 45 minutes to get there almost weekly but it's totally worth it. The staff are also super sweet and friendly with helping you with any questions you may have. Best place to find your next best friend snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, tarantulas, sugar gliders, birds, bunnies, rodents, and birds!!

You can sometimes find cool pets there. Especially reptiles & amphibians & tarantulas.... Sometimes at good prices but sometimes not so much... Kinda crowded with everything in there. It's worth checking out if you're looking for an exotic pet. Although they used to have a much better selection, not sure what happened with that... it was a way cooler pet store a while back...

I'd give them less stars if I could. Don't buy anything from them unless you want a sick and dying animal infested with mites or fleas. Just go to any of the Houston reptile Facebook pages and ask how bad this business is.

On 11/7/18 my wife and I took our first visit to S&S. We’d heard many positive reviews and read many as well. We went into the store hoping to get a new baby ferret. Upon entering I noticed how cool the temperature was in the reptile area. An employee directed us to the back where the ferrets were, as we headed that direction the temperature rose into a thick humidity. They had many many exotics, including across from the ferrets was a pig inside a 2x2 enclosure, he was large enough that while laying he took up more than half of his area. Once we found the ferrets, we immediately noticed they were distressed. They were panting heavily with at least two appearing to be dehydrated. In total there were 12 ferrets with none appearing healthy enough or even old enough for purchase. Marshall Farms typically has their babies in pet stores by week 4 when they shouldn’t be separated from mom until week 8-10. These babies were definitely 4 weeks old and “ready for purchase”. Age was obvious based on their size. We couldn’t find an employee to speak to about their condition. We found the employee only door and stuck our hands into it to find the area with not just the ferrets but the guinea pigs & chinchillas as well was so thick with humidity it was no longer surprising that the animals within the area were over heated. We also looked at the mice, hedgehogs, hamsters, sugar gliders, aramdillo, mini pig as stated, which were all within the over heated area. As we made our way back up front where we couldn’t find an employee we saw small enclosures with too many reptiles within each enclosure. We left shortly after & would NOT purchase any pet from this store.

Very friendly staff and extremely knowledgeable. We recently added two sugar gliders to the family and all I can say is they are great allot of work but worth it. The staff take extra time in making the customer aware of what they are getting into when purchasing any of the animals here. We have been back for resupply on there food and we learned even more about our new pets. Highly recommended if you are looking into getting new pets to go ahead and stop by.

Just found this in my snakes home. I do not know what the hell it is. Looks like some mold-disgusting-nasty thing. Really not happy(to say the least). I'd suggest everyone not to buy the mulch stuff for snakes from this place. (Considering I got this) Other then that this place is great, great selection. I'm disgusted I found this though. The only reason I'm putting it outside is because I'm afraid I might get sick from it. I'll have to have a talk with the owner. Jesus I cant believe this.

Excellent experience buying two exotic animals here and decided to try having my sons 6 birthday party in the outside covered patio. Everything went smooth, no stress, Katie was a wonderful communicator and entertainer, bringing out many well behaved exotic animals for the kids show. My son and his friends (adults included) loved the venue and animal show.

Please DO NOT buy reptiles from here. The animals are kept in deplorable conditions, lacking proper heating and lighting. Many are cohabitated incorrectly, and enclosures are dirty. Additionally, employees will make up care instructions for the animals just to make a quick sale.
