I went to get a Betta fish for my granddaughter, and the staff was so helpful and knowledgeable! They gave me such helpful tips and the selection was absolutely wonderful!I will be referring all my friends and family!

My go-to spot for my fishies and reptiles needs! I've been going here since 2009 when i got my 1st betta and tank set up👍 New location is nicely set up..Very clean and stocked. I love bringing my kids here to check out the variety of fish and the overall experience of getting everything needed to care for them like I was shown when i was little🙏❤

Great variety of fish in healthy condition! The owner is friendly and knowledgeable, and it's a cozy environment. There are two cats who like to hang out with you as you shop, making the whole experience even more personal. Would highly recommend!

I loved this place!! They're having 20%off on everything in the store. They're remodeling the shopping complex and everything has to go. Shop local and help the owner re-home all the fish. I've always purchased from them.

Have not shopped here yet but definitely will be! I have just started getting into the fish keeping hobby and needed some advice for my sick fish. I called multiple places in the Houston area and this was the first one who didn’t sound less knowledgeable than me(a super newbie) John was extremely professional and patient listening to me try and explain what was going on.

Went here today and as soon as you walk in you’re greeted by a very cute kitty. They had a nice variety of fish for honestly pretty reasonable pricing. Left with 4 fish and a cool shrimp for less than $20.00. If I’m ever in the area again I’d definitely stop by to see if there was anything new (:

Healthy fish, great prices. Fish are kept in separate tanks that don’t share the same water, keeping any potential diseases contained. The owner runs the store himself and is very knowledgeable. I love supporting local small businesses.

I’ve seen/heard people complain about smell/how hot it is, but honestly if you know anything about owning fishes the smell is what you expect with a whole store full of tanks (normal) and the temperature is for the fish tanks to maintain it’s freshwater temperature for the fishes. I have been coming to this particular fish store since I was 8yrs old. First it was at N.Shepherd but now they moved to Tidwell St. The owner is so sweet has always been sweet and understanding and honest without a doubt. You get great deals and good wholesales here!! Fishes are amazing and in VERY great health.

I was really let down by this place. The reviews looked promising so I went to check it out. We found it pretty easily and the kitty that greeted us at the door was very cute, but as soon as we went inside my husband and I both were hit with a really strong smell and it actually made us both gag. The tanks were really dirty, particularly the angelfish tanks. There were 4+ dead goldfish visible in one of the first tanks you see when you walk inside. The floors and shelving were all dirty. So unfortunate because the prices were great and there appeared to be a wide variety of fish available. I feel some maintenance and some deep cleaning could make a realdifference at this store.

Went today and got some fish. While the prices were great, the customer service was not good, the tanks were filthy, and within an hour one of the fish died. We were definitely not impressed with the selection either. We traveled almost 2 hours just to come here and were really disappointed.

Awesome store! The owner is an amazing man with passion and is very helpful. You can bargain with him on the prices.My only complaint is smell. The smell of baby brine shrimp is strong, but after going there a couple of times, I got used to it.The fish are amazing. Even the feeders look healthy!(But I buy them for purposes other than feeding.)The owner breeds most of his fish in the store too. I witnessed the birth of angels when I went there about 2 months ago. They were in a tank for about 2 weeks until the owner moved them to the back. When I went back last time, those angels were for sale.

While the outward appearance of this store isn't great, and it can be difficult to locate the actual storefront, the fish inside are beautiful and healthy! They have a great selection of fish and the owner is very knowledgeable about all of them. I bought my latest fish from here and she is gorgeous and healthy! You should give this place a look!

Found this little gem today. They were previously located on shepherd and 59 but had to move to this new location. This location is right off Tidwell about a quarter mile East of 45. Hard to see from the street due to the building's orientation but still easy to find with a GPS.The selection is good, the fish were all healthy, the owner was helpful, and his cats are friendly.The owner even made an alternate suggestion when I was preparing to buy one if his more expensive fish so you can tell his main concern is for the wellbeing of the fish.If you have fish you should visit and support this local Houston business.

Nice selection of tropical fish and accessories at great pricing. The negative is it's grimey a bit. Unsure if it was hit by flooding but it smells that way. Exterior doesn't fare well either. However, they have excellent quality guppies which was what I was looking for... I'll be back despite the negative.

I have been dealing with John and Houston Aquatics for over 20 years. His store may not have the standard look of some stores but his fish and animals are the healthiest in the business. I rarely lost one. I have had fish live for years from his store. He is a knowledgeable unlike many stores that hire employees just to push fish.

Aesthetics aside I'll give this place points for being one of the only locally owned pets stores within the downtown area. They got some pretty generic fish that anyone familiar with the hobby will recognize but are all beautiful. Despite the look of the place, I've never had a problem with the health or quality of the fish I've bought from here. The owner really knows his stuff, and although a bit creepy he doesn't take short cuts on his fish keeping habits and is fair with his prices. If only I could say the same for the actual store because this place looks and smells rough. Any animal outside of fish look so drab and miserable, and personally I would avoid them. But... if you're in search for some quality fish within the downtown area I'd recommend this place for anyone in the hobby.

The fish here are incredibly healthy looking. There are a lot of cute cats. While I was choosing my guppies one of them sat next to me and rubbed his cheek on my knee over and over. Very nice guppies for sale here - it looks like they are bred in the building. The prices are also amazing. It's definitely an older style of aquarium store. The older man operating the shop was very kind even though I walked in thirty minutes before close. All of my guppies are doing well, no losses so far.

It is old and dingy looking, but the fish are well taken care of and healthy. Fish look happy, and I could not find any fish in distress. Selection is very good for freshwater fish. Prices are very good, and there were plenty of people buying on the day that I visited.

I love this fish store. The selections of fish and knowledge of the owner is wonderful. The prices beat chain stores by $5 and $10 dollars per fish. By far dozens more fish breeds to choose from. I had a few questions about the fish and the owner was really helpful and patient with me. I learned a lot from him and I am now a loyal customer. I recommend this fish store to anyone who is looking for new fish, plants and information about their aquarium.I think it's a good thing that they also adopt kittens, lizards and birds and that they help stray animals. If more people were like this the world would be a better place. Who would complain about kindness to animals?
