This was the most disgusting "restaurant" I've ever stepped inside. I've never had an experience before like I did today and honestly I'm not even sure how to process it. Atmosphere and attitudes from the workers were just extremely unsettling from the minute we walked through the door. That should have been our sign to walk right back out and I wish we would have because of what happened next. Ordered a Cobb salad and the pecans that were put on my salad were literally and intentionally rolled in gobs of lard. I swear on this!!!!! I wish I would have thought to take a picture but I was soo shocked that I didn't know how to think or act and just wanted to leave asap. Why would someone do something soo hateful to someone they don't know? You have opened a restaurant to the PUBLIC for profit. If this wasn't the case you could have told me that I wasn't welcome there and I would have taken my money and left. Instead you over-charged me on top of trying to serve me that disgusting childish hateful nasty mess I couldn't eat. Keep my money and consider your conscience and where your heart is at. First impression, Smells like someone's smoking right outside the back door. Turn out they use the bathroom hallway for a smoke break room. For a non smoker, that's quite the odor to withstand for a half hour meal. Also not ideal for our infant.Nice enough people, good enough food. But when I walked outside after my meal it felt like breathing for the first time! So refreshing! Won't be back. I understand there's no regulation to prevent them, but I won't put my family through that again!

Good food, good folks, nice setting. Late supper - they were almost closed on a rainy weekday evening. Waitress was pleasant, accommodating, and helpful with suggestions and explanations of the setup. All three of us at dinner remarked on how good the food was and how much there was of it - all took dogie bags home. Would recommend!

Water tasted like dirt, scrambled eggs were runny, hash browns tasted like dirt too, like the potatoes weren’t washed before shredded, the bacon tasted like chemicals. The bill wasn’t adjusted to the food being sent back. Very disappointed in the total cost of the bill and the quality of the food.

Was in Hooks for a funeral yesterday and I had been wanting to try Downtowner for a while. I am through there a lot and had just never been able to make it. So my brother, my cousins and I popped in. I had a cheeseburger, really really really good, french fries, again good but dang, my cousin had those sweet potato fries, they were out of the ballpark good. She uses fresh sweet potatoes and tops them with just a dusting of powdered sugar. I think they are hands down the best I have ever had anywhere. Then, I noticed a customer having mac n cheese, so I added an order of that to my order. Now, my mother made the best mac n cheese I have ever eaten and my opinion remained so till yesterday. Oh my goodness, good stuff. If you are ever through there, stop in. I had a hard time choosing between the burger, the chicken fried steak which has a reputation of being mighty fine, or the chicken spaghetti. You guys know this means I have to go back again and again. If you are looking for a good, satisfying meal, you will not be disappointed.

Best Family owned restaurant outside of Texarkana. I have never been unhappy with the food or the service. My absolute favorite plate is the Chicken fried chicken with white gravy, salad & fried okra.

This is a nice family style restaurant in a great little town. There is a lot of variety on the menu and the food is fresh.The chicken salad with fresh fruit is delicious along with the cheeseburger and club sandwich. 😋

Nice local diner in Hooks, Texas. Faces old historic highway 82. People are friendly, service is good. Typical of old time diners found in most small towns. Good menu selections at reasonable prices. Short hop off of I30 so if you have time stop for a leisurely meal. If not stop at a fast food joint, pick up a puke burger and keep driving!!

Small little joint in a small town. it's a quaint restaurant to visit and I would recommend it. The menu items are pretty inexpensive and the staff is friendly.I ordered omelets both times that I went and the food was great.They did give me a military discount.

Great place to stop if you are in the New Boston area. My advice is to run three miles and do some yard work before ordering the chicken fried steak: it is big and delicious. Hook TX finest. Not very expensive. Will stop again when I'm in town.
