This place is definitely open. It has been purchased about a year and a half ago and the new owners are working very hard to make it great. It is very clean and quiet and maintains the charm of its history. They have a couple nice common rooms with very nice games, a ping pong table, pool table and Foosball. Upstairs is another common room with board games and a record player with assorted records. The owner is very nice. I believe that they are working to bring the downstairs back to a old soda fountain feel. I wish them success.

Great spot in Fort Davis, parking was always easy. The downstairs is a fun lounge area with foosball, pool, ping pong and darts. We couldn't hear any noise from our room and we were one of the closer rooms. My wife and I enjoyed talking with another couple one night while listening to music on vinyl upstairs. One of our kids left a stuffed animal and they even mailed it back to us. Thanks!

Loved the place, it's a great spot for families and groups travelling together to Marfa or through the area. FYI, rooms are all upstairs next to a dining area with enough room for at least 3 to 4 families/groups. Downstairs there's a pool table, foosball, and ping pong table. There's also a great restaurant right across the street. The only down side are the stairs. The hotel doesn't have an elevator so you'll be carrying your bags up n down it as needed.Overall I loved the place!Noteworthy details: The hotel is an old pharmacy/soda shop that is being renovated into a hotel. Most of the work has been completed. It's also a self check in venue.

The restaurant was closed and turned into a guest-only lounge. The Maps description is old and implies that it's still open for dining. Same deal with the photos of the sign with 'restaurant/eatery' and all the reviews mentioning food - no longer relevant.Unfortunate surprise since this was our go-to eatery when we stayed at the state park. Enjoyed it several times over many years. Can't speak to the quality of the hotel, just wanted to make that prominent to save others the trouble of showing up expecting a nostalgic food stop like we didEdit: downgraded what was an informational 3 star review to 1 star based on the unprofessional reply from the business. If you're gonna take a 3 star review personally, you're gonna have a bad time in the hospitality industry. Some unsolicited advice: if you don't want people from out of town leaving reviews to let others know about the restaurant being closed, update your Google My Business listing to remove mentions of the restaurant and post an update prominently so that's what people see on Maps. People who visit once a year from 8 hours away aren't going to avidly follow your Instagram updates. The first thing you see when you look at the Maps listing is a picture of a big sign that says restaurant/eatery. You see a description that talks about the restaurant and soda fountain. You see reviews talking about the best food options. You don't see mentions that the restaurant is closed until you look at the website or recent reviews. Frankly, no one is checking a restaurant's website for anything but a menu.We showed up from out of town wanting to go to the restaurant and it was closed. We last visited in April 2022. Not a big deal, but I'm sure we arent the only folks in the same boat.

Super cute & unique experience. The restaurant underneath has been converted into a lounge sort of thing for guests with a billiards table and the upstairs is another lounge with games and whatnot free for guests’ use. The room was spacious and clean and the wifi worked great. Nice comfy bed! We stayed in the Military room. The check in process was very easy, and of note despite the hotel being so close to the street you don’t hear traffic. They were very accommodating to us too; we accidentally showed up an hour before check-in because we were still thinking in Mountain Standard Time and still let us check in. The restaurant across the street is a great option - recommend getting there when they open because they’re very understaffed and have limited seating.

Nice hotel for 1 night, the owner was really nice and helped us with the temperature of our room, however is not a hotel ready for people with physical problems,I knew about the stairs ,that was ok, but the bathroom is not ready either, the bathtub is slippery and the bathroom in general need some renovations. The good thing for us is that was an historic place and we enjoyed the stayFood & drinks: None,is a hotel , but breakfast is not offered, that could be a pro since most of the places are closed certain days in Fort Davis and it's hard to find where to have breakfast

The old-timey feel of the storefront is cool. The restaurant was closed for remodeling while we were there, so no judgment on the restaurant. The hotel was rough. It’s effectively self-service, which is nice in a way, but also leaves a feeling of insecurity. The doors are paper thin and the hall is very loud despite the patrons generally being respectful. It felt like someone was trying to enter our room every time someone was in the hall. Our room and the hall smelled of natural gas, so much that we opened the window and endured the loud hum of an ice maker behind the back of the building to freshen the air.Honestly, this place could be nice, but it needs a full reno. It was not a good value for the nearly $150/nt we paid. I would not recommend this hotel in its current condition.EDIT: While I appreciate the owner's response to discredit the information I provided...my response to their response is:1. the reservation was made under my wife's name (we share the same rather unique last name), so while technically correct, come on.2. I am happy to provide the code to the lock on the side door as proof of our stay if you would like me to post that here as proof of our stay.

I've been coming here since I was a kid, and every time I have very fond memories of the place and the food. I came back for the first time in 4 years when I was passing through town. It was actually better than I remember, and I remember the food being really good! Great burgers, chips, and a nice selection of Texas made sodas and teas. Staff is very friendly and caring, and the restaurant is clean and well kept. My milkshake however, was not how I remember it. Ice cream tasted chalky and old, like it had been in the freezer for a couple of weeks and didn't taste fresh at all. My fried okra was also not very tasty, it was kinda bland and soggy. But everything else made up for that, and I would definitely rate their burgers on my top 5 list. It was such a good burger I came back the next day on my way out of West Texas to eat again. 9/10, I wish the ice cream was fresh.

Place had an odd feel to it. Creaking wood floors and sounds in the attic at night made for an interesting experience as expected in a 110 year old wood frame building. Bed was comfortable. Room was clean and had all of the necessities. Downstairs area looked like they had just walked out, mid-renovation, and locked the door behind them. Couldn't tell if the bullets holes in the front window were new or old. Definitely a nostalgic place to stay.Walkability: Great location. Couple of places to eat within a block.

-->>This review is for the food. The photo was after I ate more than half of my fried potato chips.OH MY GOODNESS...their fried potato chips are fresh, sliced, fried potatoes cooked until super crispy and then seasoned with sea salt. It tastes like my grandmothers' and mamma's fried potatoes. Better than French fries! They don't explain to most people what they are, they just call them POTATO CHIPS. Don't miss out!!!I got the Brisket Sandwich...YUM! My husband got a cheeseburger and he said it was delicious. All of their meat is from Marfa and it's pasture raised. We also tried the Fried Mushrooms and they were so good.Ice cream was delicious and beautiful presentation! They were very friendly servers. It does take awhile to get your order, but it is worth the wait!!!They also have Blue Bell Ice Cream Sodas, Sundaes, Floats, Shakes, and so forth!!!Please like my review if you appreciate honesty.Parking: In front of store/hotel.

Iwant to give the new owners a 5, unfortunately we didnt eat, but the food at the next table looked outstanding! Mountains of onion rings, heaps of fries and awesome looking burger. Having just eaten, we settled for blue bell cones, generously dipped and very reasonable priced. All menu item pricing was great. Strictly a restaurant for now, its time they concentrated on food here, and they look to be doing it 👍. We will return!

This was confusing, we read so many great reviews and saw amazing tictoks on this restaurant. Both times we have visited this small town this year it was closed I guess? We settled for the restaurant across the street and the very new waiter said he thought it was permanently closed?!? So sad, that was the main reason we went into town for our meal.

The food is really good here but the customer service could use some work. We didn't feel welcome here but it was one of the very few places to eat in the area that were open when we arrived. I'd give it another try in the future to see if it was just an off day. It's worth a stop.Edit: A month later I gave it another try and apparently they changed ownership in that time. The customer service is now 100% better but the food is awful and the prices are so very high. I ordered a full size burger and it came out the size of a slider and my fries were bland like low cost fast food fries minus the salt. My child's chicken was ice cold (obviously had been sitting in the fridge) and we had to ask for it to be reheated. The ketchup tasted soapy and the overall taste of the food wasn't as good before. It seems like when the new owners took over they wanted to increase profit so are using lower cost, not great replacements and the prices are crazy high for the quality and portions. It was a huge let down and I would have been better off spending less money on fast food for better quality items. I always prefer shopping local when I can and visiting off the grid restaurants but this was an absolute miss and I won't be returning. Also, I noticed for the drinks that there is just this ice bucket out in the lobby area where you gather your ice for your glass using a scooper. That scoop is getting touched by every patron who is not washing their hands before use. That was unacceptable before Covid times and is just an absolute NOPE for me now. What are they thinking?!

This was a breath of fresh air. We had the green chili burgers and our kids had the chicken strip baskets and all of us were so happy and full afterwards. The chicken was fresh, lightly breaded, crispy, juicy, flavorful, everything you could have hoped for. The green chili burger was fresh and juicy and cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend the root beer floats and ice cream. Ambiance was awesome. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the seating. We had trouble finding somewhere to sit, but the hosts were quick at cleaning tables and getting then ready for the next family. People all around were friendly and considerate too so it was just a thing of being patient. It seemed like this place is so popular that it's always busy. People came in droves before and after us which makes you realize what a gem this place is and how good the food was! Definitely will make this a normal part of our trips to the Davis Mountains!

This place is the best. They work so hard serving the community because on certain times they are the only place open to eat in the evenings. So people are hungry long day and come here to eat. The Star show at McDonald's Observatory let's out and everyone comes here. The food is the best and the workers are hard at work trying to feed everyone. There hotel rooms are the best as well. The owners are amazing. Best place ever!!!!

My husband and I went here for some dinner after hiking on a Tuesday around 6pm or so. More of an order and then sit at the table restaurant, which they will bring your food to your table after the order is placed. Seemed to be the only place open on a Tuesday for dinner in town. But staff was very nice and friendly and the burger and sandwiches we had were great. Also had a mixed flavor milkshake which was divine with lots of excess they give you. One milkshake is probably good for two people. Fountain drinks or bottled from a fridge and no alcohol. Would highly recommend.

The food was basic classic comfort food. Great chicken fried steak and some of the best fried orka I've had. Shakes and ice cream were also good. However, we waited 45 minutes to order and almost 2 hours for the food. Cute place, but not worth it for a long wait.

Great old school drugstore cafe with good food. I enjoyed a classy BLT which had perfectly toasted bread, crisp bacon, crunchy lettuce, flavorful tomatoes, and just the right amount of mayo along with a side of okra which was also well prepared. Husband had and enjoyed a basket of chicken and steak fingers with a side of mashed potatoes. Oddly he had to haggle a bit about the gravy because he wanted white instead of brown gravy which seems like a strange point of contention in the South. The homemade limeade was a bit too sour and a disappointment. According to the staff the property was recently sold and has new management but hopefully they will continue to serve up good food.

Driving through Fort Davis. Stopped for lunch. This place was fantastic. Service was extremely thorough and the quality of food was amazing. Every seat inside was taken so we sat out front on the porch. We received our food within about 15 minutes of ordering it. Try a delicious homemade shake!

The chips and salsa is a great start to what will be a wonderful meal. We debated between the chips and salsa or fried okra. Now we're going to have to return for the fried okra.Remember, this is a drug store restaurant so there is not an extensive menu, HOWEVER, they have perfected all of the dishes they serve. Top of the list now is the chicken fried steak which I paired with a side of onion rings. I apologize for not having a picture, but it was 2pm and I missed lunch. I'm not complaining, because the wait brought me to one of the best tasting chicken fried steaks I've had in a long time and definitely the best within a 100 miles. A light cream gravy perfectly enhanced a wonderfully think and juicy lightly battered steak. Topped of with an artistic layering of mexican street corn to add another layer of flavor to this amazing dish. The onion rings were a good choice to complete this Texas mainstay. They are famous for the onion rings and milkshakes. The onion rings are delicious. Lightly battered and bursting with flavor. Juicy bites will make your mouth believe it was transported to onion ring heaven.I almost forgot. They have ice cold bottles of Mexican sodas and various other wonderful offerings like lemonade, sweetened and unsweetened tea as well as other bottled drinks. So next visit will start with fried okra and a milkshake.

We ate here numerous times on a recent trip to Fort Davis and we were blown away! Food was fantastic, service was outstanding and the management was clearly taking health and safety concerns seriously. The place has tons of old fashioned charm and has been recently renovated by the owners who have obviously poured their heart and soul into this establishment. The soda fountain, ice cream counter, bakery case and gift shop are outstanding and we enjoyed these elements of the business too. We especially appreciated the hours of operation being more extensive and more consistent than some of the other restaurants in Fort Davis. We can’t wait to come back and visit again next time we’re in the loveliest part of Texas :)

I can't over state how much we liked your place. For those who don't know, the first floor of the Historic Drug Store has been converted into a restaurant/soda fountain while the top floor has six guest rooms and a common area for guests. The rooms are well appointed and cozy, the staff is very nice, the restaurant's food is good and the deserts are yummy. We stayed just one night but wished we had booked for more.

It is hard to describe the hospitality and amazingness of this establishment. The owners took my friends and I in with a warm welcome that is hard to find now a days. The stay at the hotel was comfy and relaxing. The decor of the rooms was astounding and super stylistic, it is not something you find in many hotels. The food was amazing and wonderfully made! All of the food I ate was fantastic and home cooked (club sandwich, pancakes, bacon, and eggs)! Not to mention the amazing iced coffee! The unique recipe intrigued me as a person who absolutely loves coffee and it truly exceeded my expectations! I truly wish I could find more places that has great customer service, food, and an amazing place to stay on every trip that I go on!

We used to love this place, now that it’s under new ownership it’s horrible. The menu is half of what it used to be. They were not busy at all and we waited almost 40 minutes for our food. Mine was cold. The quality of the food and service is not near what it used to be. My FIL mentioned the steak fingers tasted weird. My FIL got so sick after eating here. We won’t ever go back.Again, this is sad because this place used to be amazing.

Great little restaurant in a soda shop. Burgers were huge and tasty. Onion rings are great and are worth the upgrade. Ice cream is quite good as well. The only complaint was the waffle cone could have used a malted milk ball or chocolate dip on the bottom so as not to leak so bad. But that's a nitpick overall great place!
