This is a great stop between Austin and Houston. The food is the highlight, especially the kolaches and pastries. The crust on the turnovers is especially light and flaky. They also have a range of gifts and plenty of snacks and drinks for the road. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. There is a gas station next door.

I was craving some kolaches and found this place on my way to work. I ordered ham, cheese and jalapeño and sausage kolaches. As you can see it in the pictures ham and cheese fillings were huge but I was kind of disappointed with the pork sausage kolache, fillings were less than full. As far as kolache breading were buttery and soft. Overall if you are craving some kolaches this is the place to go.

Fresh kolaches. The cottage cheese and cream cheese were great! Also tried peach and pineapple kolaches. You can also buy preserves and beef jerky while you're there. There's even a sitting area with tables and chairs if you need to sit and enjoy a coffee and kolache. The café de olla was especially tasty. Always stop there when I pass by Ellinger.

Yesterday, my family and I had the pleasure of experiencing the Hill Country kolache at Hruska's Store & Bakery in Ellinger, Tx. As avid fans of the restaurant's kolaches, we were eager to try their latest offerings and to savor the great atmosphere and service that Hruska's is known for.We arrived at Hruska's just as the lunch rush was beginning, but we were quickly seated. The restaurant was bustling with activity, but the staff remained calm and efficient. We ordered a variety of kolaches, including the sausage and cheese and fruit kolaches to share. Our kolaches arrived fresh from the oven and were still warm to the touch. The dough was light and fluffy, and the fillings were generous and flavorful. The sausage and cheese kolache was a classic, with a perfectly seasoned sausage filling and a generous amount of melted cheese. The poppy seed kolache was sweet and nutty, and the fruit kolache was bursting with fresh berries. After lunch, we took some time to browse the bakery section of Hruska's. We were amazed by the wide variety of pastries and baked goods that were available. We purchased a few items to take home, including a loaf of Czech bread and a dozen cookies.Overall, we had an excellent experience at Hruska's Store & Bakery. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was outstanding. We highly recommend Hruska's to anyone looking for a truly authentic Hill Country kolache experience.

I love this spot, they have the best kolache’s with the sausage link inside. We have tried the kolaches, the tuna sandwich, the turkey sandwich, the ham sandwich, the double meat hamburger, which is amazingly big and delicious, and most of the confections there as well. Everything here is fresh and delicious. This place has it all and the food is delicious. I also love the shopping experiences as they have clothing and toiletries. The staff there is amazing. The chickens and roosters Love it too!

What a great stop to make along your way. They have amazing service and not to mention the variety they have. No matter what you are looking for they have it.And the burgers are better than any Whataburger you will find!!

Kolaches are way too sweet. I doubt that founders of the Hruska were giving so much of the artificial ingredients to the pastry. Does not taste like European bakery should.

If you're cruising at 80 mph on 71 and see 55mph speed limit signs, that's a likely signal to look for Hruska's. It used to be a relatively simple diner and general store, but their expanded their food offerings, their bathroom capacity, and their general store options. Think of it as a smaller and less crazy version of Bucky's with slightly better prizes. Come to think of it, I was in a rush, so I bought some snacks to go after using the clean restroom, so I don't even know if they have sit-down dining anymore. I guess I'll have to leave it to others to report on that.

I've been stopping here on my way to and from Austin (coming from Houston) since 2009. The kolaches are still fantastic, the bathrooms are always clean, and the burgers are actually great! This is my favorite stopping point to get some kolaches for family/friends, stretch, and refuel!

Hruska’s is love. This place has been our go-to for the Austin-Houston road tips for 20+ years. Expect great baked goods (we’re trying the Ranger and Raspberry cookies today) including classic kolaches.

The best place to stop for breakfast. Also the best snickerdoodle cookies in existence, and that is not an exaggeration they really are! The fruit kolaches are to die for. The bathrooms are clean and the staff are friendly. Plus there are chickens and roosters on the property which we love to visit with every time.

We come here everytime we visit family and are never disappointed. Today was an exception. We grabbed some burgers and drinks and were waiting by the grill area when I saw some bear claw back scratchers.. I was intrigued and picked one up to test out. As I am testing this item out. One of the younger cashiers calls out to me "sir' sir you cannot do that. " "that's too many scratches ".What if I wanted to buy that item? I'm not allowed to form an opinion on the quality? Not allowed to touch it? I was seriously contemplating buying it just for fun and that instantly changed my mind for me. Not very good business practice if you want to sell any of your novelty gift items. She needs to be reprimanded and retrained. The other staff know who she is but I didn't get her name ..none of them seemed willing to back her up when I called her out and then she went and hid in the back.

Oh my God! The burgers are NO JOKE!Hruska's is not really out of the way. It's on Hwy 71 just minutes from IH 10. Going to Houston or San Antonio. Heading to Austin from either it's right there. It's a gift shop and good stop all in one.Order in the back, pay at the register, and listen for your name to be called. They have an amazing selection of Kolaches and bread. Everything made in house. The food menu is great. The burgers are too die for... and they are no joke.My wife ordered a single with cheese and bacon. I was hungry and ordered the double with cheese and bacon. The bacon is thick and crispy. Cheese is melt goodness. Buns are soft and flavorful. But the actual burger... seasoned perfectly with salt and pepper...and thick. The double was a mistake. This isn't your fast food patty. It was that home made thick and juicy.Get lots of napkins, find a seat, and enjoy the easy a burger should be, Thick Juicy Flavorful and just perfect!

Hruska’s has a special place in my heart as a stop between Houston and Austin. I miss it pre-remodel, but it’s still a great stop. I must say, it is off-putting to have clothes your trying to sell in the walls of the bathroom. That’s pretty gross y’all…
