We are new to the area and so far we have brought both our cats here and next our dog. So far we’ve had a great experience! Everyone is so nice and professional and really good with my fur babies, which means the world to us.

My wife and I were very anxious about transferring vet clinics when we moved to Elgin, as I used to work in vet med and that can sometimes make it difficult to trust veterinary staff (and can sometimes make me a bit neurotic and irritating as a customer). I have three dogs, one of which is 16 years old and extremely needy, so the care plan has really been a life saver financially. The front desk staff is great, and I’m in there often enough that they recognize me and my dogs. I’ve never before had dogs that hated going to the vet, but unfortunately all three of my current pups heartily dislike going (not VCA’s fault- the chihuahuas are jerks and my lab is an anxious mess in any new situation). The staff at VCA Elgin has been extremely understanding and caring, even though I’m positive that my dogs do not make their jobs any easier (sorry!). Dr Abbott in particular has been fantastic- she remembers my dogs and is very willing to work with my wife and I to ensure my dogs are getting the best level of care. Finally, the price is extremely reasonable. Anyone on these reviews that is complaining about the price is quite frankly out of touch with the cost of veterinary care. I have found the pricing to be more than fair- even with my two dogs that are not part of the care club. Recently my lab mix spent all weekend at the emergency vet due to a severe allergic reaction that led to hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. The experience at the emergency vet was awful, but once VCA Elgin opened up again on Monday I was so happy to be able to get an appointment right away so that they could run a full blood panel and formulate a plan. I feel completely confident in the care Brodie received at Elgin family pet center, which was a welcome relief after an extremely stressful and emotional weekend. Thank you VCA Elgin! We’re so glad we moved here!

I took my elderly dog couple for the first time, who unfortunately, detest the vet/groomer/car rides/people/other animals…to Dr. Abbott at VCA. From the front office, tech and Dr. Abbott it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. They were all so kind. The prices were reasonable and they went above and beyond for my old puppies. So glad I found them!

I have used several vet clinics in my life with my animals and i have to say that this place is the easiest place to go. They don't make you feel bad because you cannot afford to spend $500. They do what they can for your animal, within the budget you can afford to spend. While I would be willing to pay ANY amount to save my EXTREMELY precious and LOVED animals, sometimes it is not in my power.Thank you for always seeing my babies (animals), even on sudden and short notice.Thank you Elgin Vet Staff, for always helping us keep our babies (animals) healthy and alive. Also, thank you for helping us to say goodbye to past cherished babies (animals) when it was their time.

I have really lost faith in this vet. I have brought all my dogs here for years, but not anymore. I had an issue with my dog . She had a mass develop under her chin. It got big fast. I took her in, and they examined her, and her vitals were good. They could not find any infection. Did an x-ray on her jaw to see if they could see anything. Nothing. Sent me home with anti-inflammatory and painkillers. $525!!Long story short, I am not happy at all they could not figure out that it was an abscess! I ended up taking her to ER vet hospital, and they knew immediately. She is home now recovering from minor surgery. They had to drain and clean it out.

Thank you to the office staff and Dr Metcalf for the love and care I received when I was stressed out. The sheer awesomeness, caring nature and expedited service saved my sweet Bubba's (my cat's) life.I called letting them know that my own vet couldn't even squeeze me in, and the lady said get here as soon. They worked me in, scanned his bladder got me in patient room and told me the grave diagnosis and cost of going to an ER vet. She was almost right on the money, the cost. She quoted thst the Emergency Vet cost would probably be about $4,000 for his care to save him or euthanasia.I'm very thankful that she saved me time, money (no charge for the quick assessment), told me the best place to go... And I was on my way. Dr Metcalf also called ahead to let them know I was coming and that he was critical. I am also in the medical field, so that was appreciated.I got a very good feeling from this doctor, that she cares and that she is straight to the point. I appreciate that in a person.I was able to get an appointment for his new labs for this coming Monday.***Bonus if you buy your dog or cat food there and their pet doesn't like it they will refund your money. Also their prices are the same as PetSmart and Chewy, no shipping cost!!***

Im a former client who moved out of state but was traveling back here and we ran out of Rx specialty dog food. They were able to sell me some without a big fuss since they still had our past records. Saved by Vca Elgin!

I brought my 9 year old pug, Bella, in December 14th for bloody stool and mentioned I thought she may be going blind. She also needed to get up to date on vaccines. We are new to the area and needed a local vet. My impression of the vet was she was really nice and educated me about my concerns. The vet took a look at her eyes and shared she didn’t think she was blind. We had decided to do blood work, fecal test, and urine test. I was sent home with an antibiotic and supplement to sprinkle over her food. $450 total (including getting her Rabies shot). 4 days later, Dec 18th, I received a test that the fecal test came back negative. I called to ask what it was negative for and was passed to someone who could answer that but told me she could not share the bloodwork results. I kept getting told different time frames for the urine sample as well (charged for test that was never done). In the meantime, Bella was running into more things and had a lot of discharge in her eyes. When I called there I was told we would need a whole separate exam to try medicine for her eyes. I called a total of 6 times since then requesting the results of the bloodwork, always told they couldn’t share the results and they would mark it as “urgent” for a vet to get back to me. Finally on the 27th we had enough and my husband drove up to the office to see if he could get the results. They handed him the bloodwork but stated that the vet was busy and could not interpret the results. They only said there were some abnormalities and we should hear back from the vet that day. Unfortunately, my husband returned home and Bella passed. We are so heartbroken. We have been left guessing this entire time. Would have loved the results, but now we have to live with there may have been answers that would have allowed us to take further action and save her life. Instead I wonder if she was suffering. If you want to take your beloved pet somewhere you will be left guessing go here. The lack of communication and sense of urgency is so infuriating. I have never been treated so horribly. I feel they cost me my best friend. I recommend you do not trust them initially, but definitely do not wait on them for results. Save your pet and get a second opinion, don’t wait on them to decide to give you the results you paid for.

Dr. Abbott is a go getter 100% very chipper personality, doesn’t dance around the subject, she lets you know what’s going on, the severity, and treatment options in a kind, energetic, professional way.

VCA Elgin Family Pet Center has always provided outstanding veterinary services. Totally professional and friendly staff. A full service facility, offering medical and boarding. Dr. Abbott and the entire staff always exceeded our expectations in caring for Happy for over 14 years. Though he recently passed, I must thank them for their compassionate, loving care. I highly recommend them.

The staff are very compassionate and patient during the end of life decisions for our cat of 19 years. It was a good experience and prices seem to be fair.

I needed an x-ray of my pregnant dog to see how many pups she was having. She was so scared and apprehensive. The staff was amazing and so patient with her. The doc was spot on. She had 12 pups total. I am so grateful to them.

A great vet. My indoor/outdoor manx kitty was attacked, presumably by a dog, and they got him in when tons of other vets wouldn't, including my usual vet. We actually waited for 6 hours (!!) in our car trying to be seen at an Austin Emergency vet clinic before giving up and finding this place. They were attentive, caring, and affordable. They have a big, clean office. Covid protocols were definitely in place but I was actually able to come inside with my cat while they took his vitals and waited to be seen by the vet, which I really appreciated because it allowed him to be less stressed and gave me the opportunity to fill them in regarding his past health issues. 5 stars!

Staff and doctor is friendly and knowledgeable. My dog doesn’t actually have to be dragged into the office like at his old vets office.

Got in for our appt at 8:27, taken back to the room and Hailey and Dr. Myers were so professional and friendly. Fran in the front office was able to take our payment in the room so that I wouldn’t have to drag my cat my child and all of our luggage back up to the front. Definitely will be back.

If you are looking for a vet who gives your animal the best care. Is incredibly knowledgeable and has proven their ability to save lives. This is the place for you. My animals all go here and two owe their lives to this vet. They think very highly of this place.

This experience really highlighted for me why it's worth it to go to a full clinic. Everyone was polite, helpful, and encouraging. I didn't feel shamed, patronized, or condescended; they just showed empathy for me along with my pet and provided information to help. They were understanding of financial limitations and checked in with me first before moving forward and helped prioritize concerns so that they were less overwhelming. Future vet visits feel much less scary for me which I hope will also allow them to feel less scary for my pets.

This place is great! They take care of my 4 dogs and haven’t let us down. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They do have busy phone lines. You might have to wait. Its no big deal for quality service.

Ms. Kelly just help me set up account so when I was ready to schedule my cat's appointments they were both already in the system. Zero hassle with her! She was even kind enough to walk me through the pricing and different kind of exams. (NEW CAT OWNER) I appreciate her.💖 I feel confident in this facility now.

Treated me with respect and kindness and thoroughly tried to understand what was going on with my pet in my weak moments of fear. They gave me confidence in that they were looking out for our best interest and worked to help me understand the costs involved before they did anything. Highly recommend!

Dr. Abbott and her staff took the best care of our senior cat, Miles. Although he was a recent patient (we just moved to Elgin 2.5 years ago), they treated him like he had been a patient since kittenhood. We recently had to say goodbye to Miles, and Dr. Abbott and staff were truly kind and compassionate.

They were doing great for the past year and I was quite happy with boarding and healthcare here. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for this recent incident which they seem not interested to fix.For the first time ever, Im having to write this cause Im disappointed in the healthcare my cat has received. VCA Elgin has ignored my cats failing health and seemed to refuse to treat even though it was their error not to inform me. (We didnt realize until 2 weeks later that there was something wrong.) So Im having to look for other vets in Austin to treat him. Dehydration (or whatever else this is) is no joke and telling me you cant see him?! Thats twice now that you tell me I cant be seen immediately. 😩😩 Probably gonna end up going to an ER 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️Why do we have only 1 vet in Elgin?! What good is a hospital if 1) you dont have an ER and 2) you arent 24 hours? Have you ever seen a human hospital close at night? 😩😩Edit: strike 2 and 3, so I dropped my rating. Really disappointed with this vet. Boarding cost me $1100 (pet sitting is only $500) for 12 days. And the cats came back with eye issues and chin acne. Very unhappy with the treatment for the price. I will be taking my cats to another vet going forward.

They are very professional. They take care of their clients. Each visit our dog improved mobility and healed very quickly. They offer the best of the best. His medicine took his pain away within weeks! I would go here for anything wrong with your dog! They will handle it.
