1. When you enter Sal Del Rey into your maps, it will take you to one entrance, but it's best to go through the Brushline Rd. entrance.2. There's parking to the left, an entrance gate, and more parking further down through that gate.3. Bathrooms are single stalls. Hot, so of course, take wipes to cool off or for your hands.3. Take water, comfy walking shoes, gym clothes (dry fit type), and maybe a small sweat towel.4. Enjoy the walk and the view! It's is pretty!

USE the East Trailhead off Brushline Rd. Unless you want a 3 mile round trip. The East Trail head is only about a 3/4 mile roundtrip. It also has pit toliets that were nice and clean when I was there. Nice area. If you want to walk out on lake bring water shoes. Bug spray too during wet season.

Great hiking location..you can walk on wet salt deposits on the lake. Didn't get a chance to see the hogs but found quite a bit of hoof trails on the lake.

Stunning! This was a great excursion for my family. We parked in the lot closest to the lake and it was a easy .5 mile walk in. There is a nice lookout to stand on and take pictures at the edge with informational signs. Walking out on the lake itself was like being in a science-fiction movie. On the walk back we saw several javelinas. It was a 100+ day and only there is only partial shade on the walk in and out so bring water, wear a hat, and know your limits.

This is not the trailhead that you’re looking for, assuming that you want to visit the lake. This parking lot recommends that you go to Brushline road. There was a cool historical plaque here though.

There are two entrances to choose from. We started from the main one along the highway. The trail is peaceful and quiet with you walking downhill for the most part. You don't realize this until you walk back. The trail ends and the Salt Flat opens infront of you. However, the water level was very low. Off to your right at a distance is the main lake. It is very muddy if you don't watch your step. Also, it is slippery so falls could easily occur. I would not recommend this place for toddlers and under, those that find it difficult to walk around or strollers/wheelchairs.

This place is amazing. To access the lake, you can park in the small parking off U.S. 186, but its about a 3 mile hike to get to the lake. The shorter hike (and the one we did - about 1 mile hike each way) can be accessed by parking in the small parking lot on the north side of the lake off Brushline Road. It took us a few minutes to figure out where the parking lots where but it’s worth it. We went in January and the hike was very hot and there’s not a lot of shade. Bring lots of water, and maybe aqua shoes or flip flops if you want to walk out into the lake, as the salt can hurt on the bottom of your feet. The viewing deck is also nice for seeing wildlife.

My oh my, la Sal Del Rey was spectacular! First time there so I had to go explore. Not too many people are familiar or know about this diamond in the rough so I figured I’ll put it out there so everyone so can go and enjoy. Google will take you to the main entry point which is a pretty good hike to get to the lake but, if you go past the main entrance about a mile and a half to 2 miles to Brushline Road, which I posted in one of the pictures, you make a left and then you go about a mile down the dirt road and you’ll see on your left-hand side, another little parking lot to enter the trail to the lake. That trail is about a mile in and you’ll see the entrance to the lake. It’s a beautiful walk, it was a fresh breeze, lots of trees, and some deer peeking at you through the weeds. Once you get close to the lake you will sea salt or no salt, I was hoping to walk on the salt like some of the other pictures and stories I’ve heard but the lake was pretty full this time around. Either way, the walk around the lake was extraordinary. You get to see all the foot prints of the various wildlife in that neighborhood, definitely a place to take the family. If you’re feeling an extra bit adventurous, you can walk out into the water as far as you like, up to your comfort zone I would say, and enjoy some of the fresh lake water. I have a video of another family walking out into the middle of the lake. All in all, the kids and I had a great time, definitely going back with some bikes and take a dip in the water as well. Go check this place out and if you like the pics, the videos, the stories, follow me and thumb up some of the pics and share them too. Talk soon

We had an amazing time here. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful. The reflections off the water were awesome using just our cellphones for photos. Definitely bring water, bug spray and those shoes you take into the water. Even if you don't go walking in it the salt areas near the edge can be slippery and I do not recommend going barefoot at all!!! The crystals will cut your feet.

Long walk in but the water and everything was nice. We like to go and take pictures of the sun setting, it's so beautiful! Water is so clear, the kids have fun seeing all the wild animal foot prints and grabbing hand fulls of salt.

This place is a local treasure with a very interesting history, salt has been harvested at this site for thousands of years, first by the indigenous peoples and then later by Spanish colonizers and eventually by American explorers. This lake is a hypersaline lake, meaning that it contains a salinity that is seven times higher than the oceans. This gives the place a very eerie feeling, but some very cool scenery. Be aware however that it is a trek to get to the site dash it's about a 1 mile hike each way, and then you have to account for the walking done once you get to the lake. It is not possible to swim in the lake, and would probably be ill advised given the high salt content of the water. Also please know that there are a lot of deer flies and horse flies in the area - and they do bite!

Such a beautiful place. Highly recommend if you are in the area. This trailhead is a slightly longer walk to the shore then the east trailhead (approx 1.3 mi vs 1 mi). Very neat place to explore. Never been to a place where you can walk on a water bed like this before.

Worth exploring! Kinda neat to see a salt flat in the middle of nowhere. It’s a little under 2 miles round trip. Super easy walk. The nats were pretty annoying some bug spray might help, also bring lots of fluids, and a hat it got pretty warm! Some young ones that had just come back that we met in the parking lot before starting were in pretty bad shape. So definitely take water and maybe go early or later in the day.

TikTok made me do it.Somebody else mentioned it but there are 2 park entrances. First one is where Google Maps takes you but if you keep following that road there’s a dirt road on the left and that’ll take you back to another parking area that gets you closer to the lake. It’s about an 11 minute walk to the lake from there. Very exposed to the sun, hydrate and bring an umbrella for shade. I didn’t see one snake 🙌🏽 but saw 20+ skinks, 10K inch worms, 6K mosquitos and 1 horned lizard. At the lake you can see animals prints (Nilgai and wild hog) and that was cool. Wasn’t over crowded but had scattered groups of people.

Worth the effort! 99% saline, 1 of 3 hypersaline lakes in Texas. Google and read the history - so cool! Google maps takes you to a parking lot, but look for the sign posted there with a QR code to scan. Follow those directions to a different parking lot off of Brushline Rd (dirt/gravel road). Take water, bug spray, hats...there is no shade. Watch out for snakes, we saw a really large one cross the path. It took us about 20 minutes to walk from Brushline Rd parking lot in June humidity and heat to shore of lake.

The walk is nice and the place is nice too but right now it’s completely dry. No shadows to shelter from the sun. I took my dog and the sand is super hot so I had to carry her all the way. I will come back another time

A nice quiet place to go for a walk and check out the salt flat. The trail to the water is mostly flat with only a slight incline in a few places so it is accessible to most people. There were no restrooms or other facilities so it's best to visit a bathroom before trekking out. There's limited parking. Get there early in the day to avoid the midday heat.

This is an amazing wild and historical place, easy but long walk access where you can enjoy nature, be careful with rattlesnakes and Nilgai deers

Good veiw. Enjoyed camping here and fishing. Watch out for low flying planes. They are likely dropping off ilegal supplies from Mexico.

This is a cool lake to visit due to the salt. The really salty crust looks like a frozen lake. It's about a 30 minute walk to the lake, but it's not too difficult. There is a ton of wildlife and native brush. Depending on the time of the day and year, you might see more or fewer animals.
