I started to work here last yr. My first visited to the balboa's pet shop was wonderful, I was scared I haven't work in a long time. But Rock had no discouraging words for me. Lea was very nice and look ready to help me in my first day. This family is awarding to me , I felt at peace working there. No issues ever of the two year now. Pluses they get exotic lizard a snakes every week. I love feeding the pets and they are strick on feeding to make sure every pet is fed. They feed them by hand every individual . Their concern is making sure everyone has eaten and water.

Took my Shitzu there to get a bath/cut and nail trim. His hair was already short we just wanted a 1 on him due to allergies. When I went to pick him up the rang me a total of $130!!! For a bath/cut and nail trim? Then she knocked it down to $70 because all I had was literally $50 my 14 year old gave me her $5 so we cashed out at $55.00Lady said they are the cheapest in town and I called the Dog House and they quoted me $35 for hair cut/bath and $6 for nail trim! Had I known this I would have never taken him. SIGN OUTSIDE SAYS $20 FOR SMALL DOGS! We left and won't be going back! After seeing all the reviews and that's my fault for not looking before taking. If your going to buy a pet be aware! Getting grooming done, ask before leaving your furbaby! -M.M U DIDNT ASK ME ANYTHING! MUCH LESS IF I LIKED IT! HIS HAIR WAS CUT HORRIBLE! AND I ONLY SAID I HAD THAT MUCH SIMPLY BECAUSE $130 WAS FKN BOGUS! I HAD THE MONEY YALL JUST WERENT GOING TO GET IT.

I bought a sugar glider 2 weeks ago last night she was perfectly fine the next day she suddenly died. She wasn’t sick or anything healthy and everything, I wouldn’t buy from this place if you’re trying to get a rabbit or sugar glider. Also when I was in the store they pulled one out and it was dead and they tried to hide it but I once saw it, I was hesitant to buy the sugar glider.

Critters and birds are cared for extremely well. I'd feel completely comfortable purchasing a high end breed here. Staff is so kind and helpful. I love this lil old school gem. 14yrs ago a family member purchased an Indian ring neck and he's thrived and lived beautifully. Oh, The little gerbil nursery is so cute lol

They are way over priced! But they are super nice staff. I also used to buy animals there but every animal I buy there died within 2-5 weeks,I get it like the bunny’s the birds the reptiles. But other then that it’s a amazing place to buy supplies. (Also I took good care of the animals I got from there)

the gentleman at the register was super helpful, i was able to ask plenty of questions about feedings about my tarantula, and was able to look around and view many adorable animals! it’s a great place, the person who helped me was very educated and well spoken about the animals and critters he works with

Do NOT recommend this place. Purchased a Dwarf rabbit not even two weeks yet, and she passed away. Healthy one day, a vegetable the next. Animals aren't guaranteed there. The animals can pass the same day you get it and they will not refund or give you a replacement. Very sad business!

This spot is one of the best in corpus. They always get me in and out, have everything I need, everything I want, and extremely friendly service. Highly recommend this place compared to expensive grooming and pet shops around town. Keep up the good work Balboa's 🍻

I'm seeing reviews from SIX YEARS AGO describing the exact same thing I walked into today!! Very overcrowded, sick animals, puppies in a small cage in the back room i didn't see any food in there and their newspaper bedding was soaked in urine!!! "Rocky" I guess has signs all around the store forbidding photographs taken of the animals for "False accusations" against the store which I can only guess is because everyone sees how poorly he treats those animals. My friend wanted to buy a hairless rat we saw there, but i discouraged her after watching him for a bit. He was clearly VERY sick and was jut laying against the glass like some kind of prisoner!! The BIRDS, oh my goodness i had to leave immediately! There were easily a dozen canaries inside a foot by foot cage on the wall. I saw some birds attacking each other ffs!! The store stunk, it was hard to even walk around the shop since it was so grossly over-cluttered. The bunnies there were clean and friendly so i can only assume they're new there. Never going back!!

Smells bad, very small and crowded inside. I also didn't like that they're selling baby sulcatta tortoises. These animals grow to be very large and will require a lot of specialized care. The staff was not knowledgeable in this department.

We purchased two young bald rats less than a week ago from this establishment and not even 5 days later the first one passed away. The next day the second one is acting in a similar fashion to the one that died. The owners of this store clearly do not care for they're pets or they're customers as they are willing to let them go without proper care and (rudely) refuse to compensate with a refund or new rats. I severely recommend not trusting these oafs to sell you your next beloved pet.Sincerely, a very unsatisfied customer.

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE!!! We purchased two hairless rats which are not cheap less than four days ago and one already passed away and the other doesn't act like a healthy animal. We called to ask for a replacement animal for my daughter and the lady that answered was very rude and said they don't guarantee their pets. I could understand if it was a month but four days no!! The place looks super shady but my daughter really wanted one. I'm going to contact BBB and go from there. Please don't buy anything from this so called "Pet Store!!!"

I can see that they are trying to be a good pet shop, however the smell is a bit overwhelming, from the lack of cleaning. They also do not know much about the animals that they have available, and are giving out bad information to people looking at these animals. The health conditions are a bit questionable of the animals, and the worker was not very pleasant and gave off a bad feeling.

We purchased a dwarf bunny only for her to pass 2 weeks later. Other reviews state they've had the same mishaps. The store was sketchy in the first place. It should be shut down. Clearly they don't take care of their animals and clearly the animals aren't valued there.

Good service, I've been going there for years. The animals are very well taken care of. Has a very rustic style that reminds me of when I was young. My Grandmother raised many livestock.

Love the girls at the desk. The owner is super knowledgeable in his reptiles and always has what I am looking for no matter if its for my fur babies or my bearded dragon or my snake. Highly recommend.

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS STORE.!!!!My family purchased two of their rats, both which later died in the same week of some illness. All of our pets are healthy so we know they didn't contract it from our pets. The state of their store; an utter disaster of horrid smells and sickly looking animals. The worker who answered our phone call when we asked for compensation was extremely rude and refused to refund our money or provide us with new healthy rats. Based off most of these customer reviews, it is becoming increasingly apparent that these owners neglect they're animals of a healthy environment or proper care, as well as they're customer satisfaction. I pity the poor creatures these deviants try to sell off as fast as possible to earn a profit before the animal dies from mistreatment and I take great joy in knowing the proper authority's have now been notified and will be investigating shortly, hopefully to shut these animal abusers down.

Wow! How is this place still even open? I don't even know where to start. First of all You can smell the stench before you even open the door. Feathered friends and co. is just down the street, do yourself a favor and get a bird from them. As far as the other animals go, save your money, its not worth the mountain of vet bills you'll end up with trying to save whatever you buy from them. But this is my opinion, check them out for yourself and remember, you've been warned.

Balboa himself has the personality of an ex-con not very friendly. I bought 2 feeder mice for my snakes when I got home one of them was missing all the hair off the belly. Looked like a poisoned lab rat I could not feed my snake that. Why would they even try to pass that. So stupid

I bought a Guinea pig here I had five and my vet said i needed to get my single female. I love her but she has a chipped tooth and was keeped in horrible condition only gave them Broccoli said she is six weeks is only 3 extremely small but a female her size in with a full grown mall the farrett looked like it was dieing never ever go in there. It is hell on earth for animals extremely hot

I bought a rabbit from here only to have it pass away a week later from gastrointestinal issues that it developed while living at this establishment. EDIT: Also forgot to mention that they keep their rabbits in 90+ F degree weather with no inside air conditioning, which is absolutely detrimental to their health and should be considered animal abuse.
