We fostered a dog because we needed some fun and happiness in our home, plus we had another dog that needed a friend.When we first entered the shelter is was completely filthy. things everywhere, dog food, books, newspapers, you name covered the floor of filth. we proceeded to the back where the animals were and I’d hope you know I got worse…. floors filled with poop some of the cages had what I looked like was multiple days of poop from the dogs.We then choose a gorgeous 1yr old pit yk that has love daring eyes. although the worker said he doesn’t know anything about the dog we were so excited about fostering that we even went to go get a pup cup for him as soon as we left.After getting home our neighbor noticed we got a new dog and wanted to see. he notice that our dog was filled with fleas and ticks everywhere. Before we left we asked the shelter do they give all dogs flea shots and they confirmed yes.After seeing the fleas and ticks we went and purchased a treatment and took him a bath to get everything off. We contacted the shelter the next day to let them know about everything so far.The next day our dog starts pooping worms and we were completely confused because this is only the 2nd day of having him. After talking to a vet online that night we had to make sure he was okay around our other dog. The next morning we called the shelter and they gave up medicine for him and I feel like it only made him worse.Our dog would not want to eat nor did he want to play at all. You can see him in so much pain it made us emotional. he continued to poop worms and not want to eat at all.Everyday he was here it was like something else was wrong. we hate that our experience didn’t go well with fostering due to them giving us a sick dog.Unfortunately we ended our fostering early and we brought him back a week ago due to the consent problems that kept coming up. We cried more than we played….. so we’ll try another shelter in another area and hopefully we can find our special and HEALTHY baby.Management was okay they didn’t give us anything about the dog or knew any details about him at all so we were kind of in a clueless position. If you guys go please make sure they give you prior information about the animals!!

I mean the commerce animal shelter was the best place to work at when I was there I messed up but Brandon is the best honest man I would recommend people to go to the commerce animal shelter he is really helpful and smart and funny He's helped me a lot but I messed up and for that I thank you for helping me

I didn’t want to give 1 star. I called them before 10 to let them know someone hit a dog in front of our house. Called again around 1 because she was still there. They hung up on me. Called back and got supervisor who tried to say we weren’t in city limits and we were, so then he advised he would come and hung up on me again. When arrived did not say one word to us. They were extremely rude.

I surrendered 2, 10 month old puppies because trying to rehome them myself wasn’t working and we wanted what was best for them, and they weren’t even there a month before they put them down. The girl had worms and parvo within the month and died, her brother put down for jumping out of the pen. I told them I would come get them if they were going get put down and to call me. No phone call. I understand I surrendered rights, but I didn’t want them killed and they said “Sure definitely we can call you” I will never trust what they say or tell me again.

Impossible to work with! Tried to adopt a wonderful dog through them that was posted online. They said they were gonna call the Foster and see when we could meet up. And then hung up without taking down my number. Waited a bit and after no contact back I called back (because i knew they didn't take down my number), they took down my number and said theyd call me back in a few hours at most to let me know what time the Foster was available. DAYS later I call again asking about an update on the situation, they don't even say "oh the dog was adopted" or "it's no longer available" or anything the woman just groaned and slammed the phone on the receiver.This is basics. All you had to do was say "sorry dogs not available anymore" or you could even have called me before and updated me then.Disappointing when the whole purpose is to find homes for animals...EDIT: And the dog is still on their website... Called early 7/30 not long after open. Y'all need to put a leash on your employee

Commerce Animal Shelter has been great to work with. They assisted us in getting two of our Great Pyrenees back several times. The people working at the shelter and friendly, competent and seem to care about their work. From what we could see the facility was clean and appeared to be well take care of (considering funding). They do a great job for the community ….. please donate.

We got our Diamond about 6 months ago. The Commerce facility was terrific. It was so clean and had so many nice and helpful workers. It was so well staffed .They work with all the dogs and help teach socializing. Thanks for your help..Diamonds only bad fault is chewing. We are still working on that since sprays don't work,but we will get through it. I am sending pics.

Profiles your dogs an calls them pitbulls when they're not. My 7MONTH old PUPPY got out one time an they came acting like it was a problem I see dogs running around all day here they don't mess with em because they're labs an Shepard's I will press charges next time my dogs are wrongly profiled

We adopted "Sugar" 2 days ago and just love her. This center is clean and you can tell that they love all the animals they are taking care of. I only wish Chewy could help out these smaller centers as they could really use the help. Thanks to all the help in making this adoption wonderful.

Terrible. They need a Hobbie. Let your dog accidently get out there gona treat you like a criminal, while the 100 stray cats wonder around. Very unprofessional.

The Commerce Animal Shelter has made great strides under a new Animal Control Officer. The dogs get to be outside daily, they are tested for heartworms, puppies are given parvo vaccinations, all animals are spayed/ neutered when adopted, animals needing medical treatment receive it, they microchip now. Every effort is now made to find homes for all. They work closely with several rescue groups as well as the SPCA of Dallas. They are working to improve the facility through donations. Take a look at their facebook page. They have held some Saturday and off site adoption events. The staff and the many volunteers love the animals and do all they can to provide a safe and happy stay until they are adopted. I adopted a wonderful dog from here and have been in many times. The cats have really nice cages that can be made larger when there are fewer cats. They all have scratch pads, blankets and toys now.The facility is old but they are working hard to improve all aspects and doing a great job.

Adopted flower from the shelter. Chelsea was very kind and even met me on a Saturday to let me adopt her. Flower had been there for two months and was in a very healthy condition. If you are thinking of adopting I couldn’t recommend starting to look anywhere else but here.
