What a surprise inside. They have all kinds of games, camping supplies, nik nacks, and more. There is a bar with craft beer and food. We didn't have time to eat, but saw someone's sandwich on their table and it looked awesome, and they said it was There is an outside bar which wasn't open yet, but it looked like they have music here at night some times. There are picnic tables outside and an enclosed dog run. Enjoy

The place was handy to get to and was clean. A great place to grab some after hike snacks and drinks. They also had t-shirts, sweatshirts, camping supplies, games & souvenirs.

This is the place to stop on the way in or out of Palo Duro Canyon if you need supplies, groceries, souvenirs, a cold beer, or a good meal. Great views inside or out on the patio. It is a must stop for a cold beverage after a big hike through the canyon. Love the wood beams and welcoming vibe.

Such an awesome spot before the entrance of Palo Duro Canyon. Stocked with all your essentials and more. I’d you are hiking or overnight camping it’s a great spot. They also had meats for grilling! The coffee and snack bar was awesome and the cold brew was good. They have an outdoor picnic area in the shade and it says dog friendly indoor and outdoor. Love it.

It's okay, really like a upscale pit stop station. Like if gas station met retail specialty store. Little tourist and camping stuff inside with classic candies chips and drinks. I was NOT a fan of the coffee bar. If your a coffee snob, just don't. Prices seem a little high but to be expected when next to a national Park I guess and there isn't much more around.

The Sad monkey should be added to your Palo Duro trip. Don't pass them by. Super friendly owners and staff. They have a nice selection of groceries to fill up your rv and lots of micro brews to pick from. There was a food truck around back. The Sad Monkey merch is so cool. We will be back again.

A short distance from the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, and set well back from the road, you’ll find newly opened Sad Monkey Mercantile. It’s like a huge barn, stocked with both the things you need (because you forgot them when you packed for the camping the canyon), and just purely cool fun stuff. They have all your picnic condiments, steaks and burger meat, a wall of beer (mostly local) and wines from Texas wineries Llano Estacado and McPherson. Also in the front of the store is a nice selection of camping gear, T-shirts and neat things for your dog (they’re dog friendly) Going further back in the store are tables to sit and enjoy the beer, wine or coffee that they offer in the small bar area. In the back is a section of books by local authors, books on area history and monkey-themed children’s books.

The sandwiches were wonderful. Lots of interesting items for campers, bikers, hikers, and pets. The menu app says they do not have alcohol but they have a very nice selection of beer and wine. The lemon mead is great. They are also pet friendly and have a dog run area adjacent to their outdoor patio. We will definitely be back while we are in the area.

The best place to go for craft beers, an amazing food truck, and live music. Sad Monkey is a must for locals and tourists. It’s right by Palo Duro Canyon so the views are gorgeous. The staff is very friendly and it’s always really clean! Highly recommend this place!

I regret not capturing some snapshots of this charming spot! Nestled along Palo Duro Drive just before the canyons, it's brilliantly situated and exudes undeniable charm. Our visit for two lattes was nothing short of delightful; they were simply exquisite. What's more, their dog-friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to shop inside added to the allure. Though their menu is small the addition of food items in their store section is a thoughtful touch. And let's not forget the standout element: the staff. We were warmly greeted by a young lady and gentleman behind the coffee bar, whose hospitality truly elevated our experience.

Pretty cool spot located just outside of PDC.When we stopped by they had a little live music going on. Nicely decorated and looks like they have a separate building behind for large events (I assume wedding events, etc.).A very welcome addition to the area.Stop by for a coffee or beer after your hike. They also have a wide assortment of necessary camping supplies should you forget something.Worth checking out! Job Well Done SMM!

This place is a fav stop of ours when visiting PDC. Food, beer, wine, and coffee to order AND souvenirs AND camping supplies. They have an outdoor patio overlooking a pasture of Longhorns. They also have a dance hall! It is a fun and unique place. Prices can be a little steep, but the quality is good.

Sad Monkey is fun and easy stop right next to Palo Duro Canyon. They are VERY dog friendly and even have an off leash dog park. They have an interesting selection of craft beer, cider, wine, etc along with selling an excellent selection of bottled beers, etc you can purchase and take into the park. They had good food, the staff were very friendly and it was a great place to just hang out and meet some people. If you are staying in the park I would highly recommend making it a stop.

Great spot for "provisions" before you drop into the canyon. Actual hiking stuff, but also wine and beer selections for after hours, and even small meat and cheese containers. Hot food and drink on site!

An awesome general store / deli / bar / camp store / you-name-it just outside Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The vibe here was really neat.My family stopped in for some cool refreshment after hiking Palo Duro. I wished we'd had more time so we could have hung out for some beer/wine, but we had reservations at the Big Texan and had to run with some to-go bottled sodas (of which they have a great selection).Definitely worth stopping by on your way in or out of the state park.

We stopped in here for a coffee after hiking in the canyon. The drip coffee was delicious - high quality beans. We didn’t buy anything else, but the souvenir products all looked good and higher quality.

We have been here a few times after visiting the canyon, because they are pet friendly, and our Great Pyrenees loves some doggie cookies we found there.

Great place just before entrance to state park. New business. Beautiful interior. Great selection of quality gifts and outdoor gear plus dog stuff and kids items. Dog friendly inside. Nice outside space (too cold today). Friendly staff. Delicious cup of broccoli cheddar soup and jalapeño corn bread. Oh and best of all - craft beer on tap! We’ll definitely stop there again.

What a cool new spot right outside of the Palo Duro Canyon entrance. There is cute merch, delicious apple cider at the cafe, and a nice spotlight on local art and literature. Great place to unwind after a day hiking at the canyon, or to stock up on provisions before heading in. I love the dog park next to it. In the summertime, the bbq food truck and event space will surely be lovely.

Stop in and stock up, have a pint of local brew before you drive down into Palo Duro Canyon. Great beer and banter from the bartender, skip the pizza, it’s just okay. Clean bathrooms and the last cell service you’ll have for a while. There’s some fun merchandise too!

Why didn’t this place exist when I moved here 34 years ago? SMM is the perfect ending for every hike. In addition to the souvenirs and selected camping gear, they have a rotating selection of craft beers on tap, wine for those who prefer grapes, coffees, teas, and chais for those not so inclined, and charcuterie boards. They also offer a variety of sandwiches, and a taco trailer on weekends. Better yet, a ton of craft beers in cans to take home. What’s not to like? There’s always a fun crowd of tourists in here, and no shortage of conversation. It’s like your friendly neighborhood bar, but with a changing cast of characters every time.Their event venue in back is also top shelf. My university division had a strategy planning session here earlier in the semester. It’s great for any event that just wants to get a little closer to nature. And in the land of justifying one’s indiscretions, just remember: Every mile hiked results in more beer credits. Prost, y’all!
