Walked in looking for a cat. Walked out about 25min later with a great little boy. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Also there was no pressure to adopt unless both the animal and family was happy.

We adopted lovely 6 month old kittens and received answers at all our questions. They require you to return them if it "doesn't work out," which really gave us peace of mind.

During COVID - 19 pandemic, I had taken in this beautiful tortoiseshell tabby kitten (6 months old) who had been abandoned. Her name is Gracie. The intention was that she and our other cat (4 year old) would be friends and keep each other company. Unfortunately our older cat was too territorial and was not allowing poor little, sweet Gracie the opportunity to bond. I was at a loss for Gracie as to the best avenue for a new home and happy place. The Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society was closed due to reconstruction and no available space. Christie came out to greet us since we had driven out to their location and had Gracie with us. Fortunately there is a happy ending for Gracie! She is at the shelter and being given special treatment to find her happy and forever home. I have provided some special incentive for her adoption and care - to pay it forward to Gracie's new family. Since none of this was Gracie's fault, I wanted to make sure Gracie will given a new chance for a loving home. The Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society is now a new place for me to help with donations (I am relatively new to the area) for the animals they take in since the needs/costs are so great. I hope that someone will see the picture of sweet Gracie and take her to her new home! Give her lots of hugs and pats on the head as she deserves lots of attention.

Added a new family member. Meet Alvin. Eight months old. Very loving and extremely smart, he picks up new things quickly. We are so happy to have him with us and no longer sad and lonely.

My dog is a rescue from class. They have helped me a lot. I am a veteran and needed the dog as bad as she needed me!

Unknowingly Adopted a dog with Distemper. Was told the nasal and eye discharge was due to allergies. Less than 24hrs later our dog lay fighting for its life. No measures were taken to quarantine other animals at the shelter and adoptions continued as normal. If you find a pet you love here Wonderful! They all deserve loving homes. BUT DO have a well check performed by your vet to protect your family and other furbabies.

I wish I could give no stars. I fostered my baby Jade and she had been there around a month. They had not even input her in the system, vaccinated or much less even knew she was there. When I took her to my vet she was extremely sick. The diagnosed her with Giardia. We had her on treatment for that and she became sicker. Took her back to the vet and they ran some test and told me they thought she may have distemper. I have 3 of my dogs at home and one of them a senior. I began treatment for Jade and the vet bills were piling up. I had to pay for everything out of my pocket almost $1000 on sweet Jade that I was fostering from CLASS. When I reached out to Kelly Mayfield she originally declined to help me pay for anything because I took her to my own vet. I have messages from her though showing every time I tried to reach out, her go to was bring her up her and I’ll take her when she could. I didn’t want my sweet girl to die alone. She ended up paying me $300 for the distemper test and antibiotics but none of the other visits. Jade’s test came back and she had distemper, adenovirus and canine coronavirus on top of the giardia. My sweet girl didn’t have a fighting chance. I took her to be euthanized on the 19th 😭💔 it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life and I wish no one had to know the way I felt but unfortunately there are many more from the same shelter that have experienced the same as me. My plan was to adopt her but I didn’t get the chance. The idea of CLASS is amazing but the scum they have running it is infuriating. I’ve witnessed the filth, lack of care and compassion it’s disheartening. They are animal hoarders, falsifying documents, leaving animals to die alone and scared, the poor fur babies never leave there cages unless a good volunteer come in and walk them, and they were fed once a day and if there were more then one dog in the cage or kennel they had to either fight over food or they would try to hurry and scarf it down. In the months I volunteered there I only ever seen the dogs walked twice and it was myself and a couple other volunteers that did so. Kelly is usually in a corner making snarky comments about volunteers, potential adopters and or the animals. People this lady is evil and we must get her out of there for the sake of all the poor fur babies that need a chance.

I highly DO NOT recommend, this is NOT a reputable shelter. CLASS does not properly vet their animals before adopting them out. Nobody seems to properly sterilize the shelter, therefore continuous parvo and distemper outbreaks occur. There is very little transparency about funds, intake/outtake, amount of animals in the shelter vs in foster, isolation process, and use of donations. Now they are trying to distract from the truth since the authorities and local media are now involved. Please look into other shelters or rescues in the area, and please only donate items, not money, until the many investigations are cleared up and justice is served.

If I could give no stars I would! This place is horrible, I could write a book about the things going on at the moment. Find out for yourself on Facebook, please visit Beware Canyon Lake Animal Shelter, and other pages like it. You will find info on how to report your experience. Do not go here. Please go to a shelter with healthy animals.

So many horror stories coming to light about puppies dying in a basket from parvovirus. Animal Control discovered it and refused to leave until the puppies were humanely euthanized. There are groups fighting to fix this problem. If CLASS sees you are a member of one of these groups, they block you from their fb page. They are also emptying their cat room and SELLING the cat condos. I donated one of those condos a few years ago. I would like it returned so I may donate it to another shelter. They won’t answer me.

I wanted to come back and revise my review and say now that there is a new board in place, this place has improved greatly. I am happy to know this place is in new, better, and kinder hands.

Shady Rescue named to confuse people that it is a legit animal shelter. CLASS does not properly vet their animals before adopting them out. My friends dog was adopted to her with a vet diagnosed case of distemper. Rampant negligence on all levels. Now they are trying to backtrack and start doing the right thing now that the authorities are involved. If you consider adopting from them be very cautious.

Adopted a puppy which tested positive for parvo having only been at the shelter. I notified the shelter (they denied any sick puppies) and realized they've been having outbreaks and not telling adopters. They only recently announced it because of the backlash, which means they lied to me as well.

We love Kelly & Darryl and the work they are doing with animals. They truly do care about each and every one of them. We are looking forward to adopting a dog when we meet the right one.

Staff is nice and try to help as much as they can. Not all animals are on site, and it is a bit understaffed, so be patient. Learned that just because an animal is on the website, doesn't mean it's fully updated. Just glad they have adopters. And it is worth filling out the pre adoption form, can make your dreams true faster. 👍

I came here on a Saturday before 2 pm and was told there was no one available to walk us out back. Hours listed in google said 4pm closing. They post lots of pictures online of pets available for adoption but when it comes down to it, they won't make time for anyone ready to adopt. The pictures listed online must be for the sole purpose of obtaining donations.

Please do not support this shelter. The owner is selfish and neglects those poor animals. She lies to everyone and cares about no one but her self! These dogs are being fostered/adopted out and they are ill and unfortunately some are not surviving. This is horrible and this place needs to get closed down permanently.

Everything seems to be running well with the new management after the Scandal a couple of years ago with previous management. However it's hard to find a volunteer when you need one because they are so busy. I don't think it's their fault I just think that they need more help. They're always very sweet and friendly and interested in you and how you relate to the animal that you are considering for adoption. There is an extensive adoption process which is put put in place since they've taken over and I think that's wonderful because you can feel more secure that animals going to a loving home. Our last animal adopted from class is our beloved cat chewy. He was born and raised in the shelter and had never seen the outside. We love him and he is full of personality. Overall I say they're doing a great job but they need help they need funds and they need volunteers

Management does not have the level of expertise to operate a business. Sterile procedures are not implemented when outbreak of highly contagious viruses are diagnosed by vet. Continue to adopt out sick animals and bring new animals in. Fails to assure adequate supplies are available. Animals are needlessly suffering and change has to happen.v2/23

Just read article on google that President Darrell Mayfair and Vic-president Kelly Mayfield who ran the rescue had sick puppies put in a freezer rather than treating them for an infection or euthanizing them humanly. There’s really sick people out there and they are two of them.
