Just recently adopted our second fur baby from here and couldn’t recommend them enough! The staff is so friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. They answered all of our questions and really helped us to find the perfect fit for our family. Everyone we interacted with from start to finish was great across the board. This facility also offers training services and they were very open and non-judgmental about questions and issues we had with training ourselves which we appreciated. If you’re looking for a new fur baby or want to make a donation to a local non-kill rescue, definitely consider ARLEP! They are so deserving of it.

I adopted my Border Collie/Australian Shepherd dream dog there. They took really good care of him and the adoption process was very easy to get through.

This place is an absolute scam. As much as they want to find homes for animals they sure make the process difficult. I have never adopted an animal at a shelter with this much work going into it. We saw as a family a puppy that we wanted to take home and love forever. We were told there was an application to fill out. We filled out the application where we had to provide pictures of our back yard and fence.. fine whatever, we live in on post housing. It even said they could drop in unannounced to check on the dog.. weird but ok. We were then told we couldn’t get the dog because the man that showed us the dog told them that we had another pet at home… we don’t. And they said they would ask again. We were told he said that we said that… again we didn’t. So we just told them to have a nice day. Their loss on having a great family bring home a dog. Ridiculous.

I appreciate the ARL screens each adopter. I found the story section, and photos a big help in finding my Cowboy. The application is necessary and helps match the animals with good owners. The holding area's are very clean, and the staff is the best. This is not my first rodeo and very happy I chose ARL this time around.

My mom wanted to adopt one of the dogs there. Well apparently we have to have pictures of the whole property, and the dog run. Can't use part of it. Or anything. If u want to adopt Herr. Take a whole photo album of you're property and if you have other dogs, proof of their shots and heart worm stuff or otherwise you can't adopt there until then. Easier to adopt at the humane society.

We were looking for a new brother or sister for our Great Pyrenees because he seemed a little sad that he didn’t have a playmate. We went to the shelter and fell in love with Kali(piper is what the shelter had her named)We did the application and got approved brought over our dog and they took us to an area to see if the dogs got along and they did! We brought her home and she had a grooming appointment the next day! Groomers said she was such a kind dog and they all loved her. She’s great at home! She follows bears lead and they sleep together, eat together and play together. The shelter was so great and kind to us! One day in the future will go back and add a 3rd member,

"providing education and resources to the community." - this is their closing statement on their website front page. My wife came in with an elderly blind/deaf dog who we found wondering outside our home, we came in to scan him and ask about what could be done with him. A lady said they were full (Very understandable) but we have no clue what to do with the dog and they did not provide any further education or resources of what could be done with the dog. She only said "he's too old to get adopted". I understand this is a tough messy job but maybe your staff could be better prepared to provide help in these situations. Writing this in a hope to educate ARL on establishing real education and resources for people who are also trying to help.

14 years ago I got my best buddy here ( he is now 15y/o). They really care about these animals and do a great job of trying to find these guys forever homes. Keep doing great work ARLEP!

We adopted our dream girl from here 3 years ago and never got around to reviewing. Couldn’t have ask for a better pup or better quality shelter to recommend in El Paso. My only question is how they manage to get the cutest, sweetest, bestest doggos in the area?!

This is the best place to adopt a pet. Very clean facility they take very good care of the dogs and cats that they take in. They take care of their pets. And make sure they havethe best health possible. We adopted three dogs from here and it’s the greatest thing we’ve ever done. Thank you Loretta for Xena, Mikey and Maggie they’re the happiest dogs ever been in there forever Home.

My experience with the Animal Rescue League’s cat adoption was amazing! This is a great place filled with caring, hardworking people who make a positive impact in the community. Specifically Suzanne Donnelly…. I had recently rescued a two week old kitten. He needed so much love and care. To be honest I was lost! I went to the shelter and met Suzanne. Because of her knowledge and experience my little one is now thriving! I adopted two other kittens from her. My cat family truly has grown. I have experienced first hand the compassion and care that she and her staff have for their cats. The facility is well maintained and they work hard to make the shelter experience feel like a home for their resident cats. Suzanne truly has a gift for what she does and finding the perfect forever home is so very important. The adoption fees pale in comparison to the veterinary care provided for each and every animal. I highly recommend this place!

Animals are well taken care of which is great, however the girl who helped us didn't know anything and they made it very difficult to adopt. I understand wanting to ensure these fur babies are given a great home but they make it hard. They made it seem like not having another dog would hinder us from qualifying, but when we said we had an inside/outdoor dog they told us we couldn't adopt because both dogs had to be inside dogs. We aren't allowed to have one that's both inside and outside. They also said a 5 foot fence wasn't tall enough even though the dog was going to be an inside dog. They don't answer their calls either. We had to call several times before they gave us an answer. Very disheartening, because we are great loving dog owners.

Truly disappointed in this facility! It’s so sad that they give you a very difficult time to adopt a pet from them, when you would shower them with love. Be prepared for a very, very extensive application process, which I understand that they want to make sure their animals go to a loving home, but they take it way, way too far, it’s very saddening. They seem as if they do not want to give their pets away and rather keep them in the shelter. They would not let us adopt kittens due to not having proof that our cat is spayed. We have many loving fur babies at home and wanted to take in some more, but needed proof of every single record that our pets have ever had. They also are very terrible at communication, so be prepared to keep calling! You won’t hear anything from them about your application, I had to call many times in order to get status updates, and even then they would ask the same questions.Seven years ago, we were able to adopt a puppy and cat from this place, and had never went through this process. Employees were excited for their pets to go to a great home. I’m not sure if it’s new ownership or new processing, but you all take it way too far. It’s incredibly sad!

We brought these kittens by as a last-ditch effort after the Animal Service employees at the local federally-funded facility wrongfully declared them unadoptable. Two days later the wonderful, patient, compassionate employees had already found one of them a home and socialized the other one so well that she's almost ready to start looking! The people running this facility actually understand what pet care necessitates rather than simply writing animals off upon first meeting them, giving them a real shot at happiness. They take the time to care for frightened cats and adjust to their needs and schedules, unlike anyone at the other facilities I've been to. Thank you so much for helping these sweet babies find forever homes! I'm looking forward to working with them to fostering kittens in the future! Please go by and consider volunteering as well!

We adopted a cat here during the time of Covid. We needed to fill out the application online and make an appointment, but we (a preschooler and I) were able to visit with all of the cats to find the one that clicked with us. The workers were very kind and friendly and suggested which cat would work best for us. Great experience. We may be back for another cat someday. 😊

Tried adopting 3 cats and give them a loving home and Yvonne wasn’t helpful, she was being rude and unprofessional, hopefully they can find a loving home so sorry for the cats who don’t get their home because of people like this.

We love the staff at ARL. We've adopted two adult dogs and it has been a very positive experience both times. We even met our trainer there who helped make the transition smoother. The staff has always been very patient every time we stopped by to find a new pup.

I went in looking for a dog and the ladies in the front desk areso discouraging and rude to you. I understand their job is to make sure if they give you a pup you’re the right fit for them but the way they talk to you makes you want to walk out. I stayed to look at some doggies and when they asked me if i had one of my own i answered yes! i have a 5 month old puppy. The owner told me i couldn’t take a doggie home unless i got my puppy spayed ASAP and that if i didn’t get her spayed right away then she would see me again once MY puppy died of cancer or lumps. I know the importance of getting your doggies spayed but there is no need to say my baby will get cancer and that once she passes away i’ll be back. I was EXTREMELY disappointed.

Haven't used this place yet but hoping someone will see this post. Couple of months ago, was leaving the long term parking booth at the El Paso airport and after paying at the booth, saw a grey momma cat with 3 babies, one grey like her momma and 2 beautiful orange ones. They were living In the bushes directly to the left against the wall to the left of the paying booth. They have endured 35 straight days of 100 plus degree weather and hoping somebody sees this and will find a way to catch them and give them a good home or at least take them to a no kill shelter. I live in Cruces and do my best to go out there to feed them but it's hard because of my work. ANYBODY CAN CATCH THESE 4 BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS, I WILL PAY $100. THANK U

Literally the worst shelter I have ever visited. Got a cat from them a year back, good cat, but very malnourished when I got her. No biggie, it happens. Was kept in this tiny wire cage thing prior to adoption. Alrighty, a year goes by, I'm living in a large 3 bedroom apartment and there's apparently “not a single dog there” that would fit my active military lifestyle. I guess the word apartment is super off-putting and they don’t adopt out to inferior apartment dwellers, despite many house owners having dogs that never leave the yard. The animals are in poor condition, many were sick and would let out this hoarse cough-bark, (my first encounter with kennel cough, unbeknownst to me.) Just a very depressing place that seems to have the single goal of having too many animals and not enough adoptions. They called back like a week later to tell me no, so I went down to the Humane Society and got the best dog in the world. Little Pitbull Terrier who couldn't be more loyal.

Being new residents, we went to check out this shelter. My husband and Dusty the cat were instant buddies so we decided to adopt him! We were so impressed with all the hard work that is done here. The animals are so lucky. Thank you for giving us our new family member, he was meant to be ours!

very bad experience.I went during the week with my husband to see and adopt a dog.We really liked one and they told us to fill out the application, and that's how it was.We had a doubt with a question and we made it known to a person who was at the counter and with an ugly tone he told us that the dog we applied for could not be for us because we live in an apartment and that dog would not be well there (and I really use too rude a tone of voice). Even so, we continued with the process, they told us that it would take approximately 3 days. They never called us, until Saturday we decided to contact us and a very nice woman answered us who said that she would review the request and contact us.20 minutes later she calls us and tells us that the puppy could be for us but that she only needed the office where we lived to send them an email saying that they did indeed authorize dogs to live there. We told him that perhaps that would be until Monday when the offices open, they told us not to worry because the dog for which we applied would be there waiting for our process.Today I dialed to tell them that they would contact them, and before I finished talking they told me that this dog was already adopted. To begin with, when I spoke, they answered me horrible that they did not speak Spanish and then they left me on the line for about 5 minutes waiting for someone who did speak this language.I don't understand how they tell us to wait until Monday and then as if nothing happened they tell us that someone already went on Saturday and they took him away, it seems very unprofessional to me, then my husband calls him and they tell him it's because this person had already gone before and applied... so why don't they tell us the day we apply that that puppy already had an application? And how do they change the version saying that on Saturday it was someone who had already adopted before and that's why they gave it to him that same day and then another version that they had already gone to see him before and applied for him... so which is his correct version? ?His adoption process is really too lametable, saying that this puppy is there and that they will wait until Monday and it turns out that they give it before...and too rude the person who answered my call and arrogant his way of responding.

I’m not one to give reviews but this place ain’t it. Everybody always encourages people to adopt so I came to this shelter. I found this sweet doggy that I wanted to take home and at the end I wasn’t able to because they do drive bys of your home and they literally judge a book (home) by it’s cover and they decide if it’s(our home) good enough for the animal to live there. I was denied because I had no fence. So they don’t think dog is not allowed to be indoor? (Even tho I told them) Can’t take him out to potty in a lease? Can’t be trained to be without a leashe? But yet the dog is better staying in the shelter in this tiny cage??? Yeah okayyy.. pathetic. Why tell people do adopt then.

After a bad experience at animal services, and finding no adoptable cats at the humane society we stopped by here. The whole staff was wonderful and welcoming. They by far had more cats than the first 2 places we visited and we were shocked at how clean, well taken care of all the animals were. Animals seemed incredibly happy and healthy. There was no foul smell even with dozens of cats. It was hard to pick a cat because there were so many friendly cats that would make a perfect addition to anyones home. Glad they check on people before they adopt an animal out to them. They are doing the best they can to be sure these animals go to loving and caring homes.

Adopted Pluto a few months ago.At first i was a bit terrified of doing so, i was told that he had a hard time adapting to change and that walking him would be a hassle. Certainly being around dogs was a big no-no, truth be told once i had him home things were different.Pluto is a smart, loving dog who just needed someone to care for him, in the end i'm happy i made the decision to adopt him despite fair warnings.

They act like they're doing you the favor of adopting a pet. They vet you asking you loads of questions making you provide all sorts of information to make sure that you are fit to adopt. However when I got my pet they gave my existing dog the runs and kennel cough which cost me over $200 with my vet when my existing dog was in perfect health. Then they charged us $150 to adopt . The money they said was due to spaying the dog. We never got her spayed. She was an absolute nightmare. Which I am not blaming the shelter. My existing dog would run and hide from this dog had cuts and bites from her and after several weeks, we threw in towel and asked to return her. We did not receive any money back. They turned around and charged $150 all over again to their new owner. Why would they charge for a spay when we technically already paid for that procedure??? They are cons. And they are bad people. I got another baby from the animal services and they paid for everything and he's a beautiful boy in perfect health and never got my existing dog sick.
