Possum Kingdom seems to be one of the most popular state parks in Texas. We arrived at the end of Spring Break, so we had one day with people partying long into the night and then the rest of our trip we nearly had the park to ourselves. The restroom near our spot was closed for repairs, so we had to travel to the shower area. This park is huge. They say there is over 300 miles of coastline. They could have planned the layout better so the campsites are not directly on top of each other. But, a park is there to make money, so I understand. There is a new fishing dock and a great swim area. The marina is well stocked with anything you may have forgotten on your trip, and the staff is friendly.

An excellent water oriented TX State Park. The lake has over 200 miles of shoreline with tons of coves. There is no shortage of things to see and enjoy on the lake in a kayak, canoe or powerboat. There are only a couple of trails but both offer a good deal of elevation change as well as excellent views of the lake and surrounding area. The facilities are dated but well maintained and most of the campsites offer excellent water views and access.Restrooms: Clean and well kept.

Loved it going back this year... Really nice park with lots of activities to do as well as good fishing. We hiked in, to camp. There's a nice trail to hike and the scenery is beautiful.

Unless you love fishing and live within a couple of hours, this place isn't worth the drive. It's remote, nearest town with a grocery is 45 minutes away. Campsites are large, but many are not level, and the sites along the lake have a goose poop issue. There is a camp store that also sells food. There is a playground, cabins for rent, shower house.

Wife and I stayed at #41 Shady Shores water electricity. Not all good and not all bad. Close to RR which are always swarming with bugs drawn to lights and not always clean. RR are ok but; maybe 5 out of 10. Our campsite was next to boat ramp where there is lots of activity and very noisy. Lots of drive by traffic during day and lots of bright lights at night. We had a 32 ft trailer pull into site #40 right next to us. The guy with trailer could not level his trailer correctly and we had to endure the sound of his drill as he used it to level his trailer. It took him all of Friday to figure it out. Sites are too close to each other to have any peace and quiet. Too noisy. Too much drive by traffic. We went to the park store and as we walked in we were not greeted or even acknowledged by store staff of two women and not greeted by female park ranger who was there visiting her buddies. Seemed like this is a daily routine for them. They did not seem interested in customers at all. Shameful. TDPW staff need training on greeting visitors. Please. Overall, with speed boats racing and making noise, all the drive by traffic, the proximity of camp sites, there is no way in hell my wife and I will ever go back. We seek quiet and peace. Possum Kingdom is for party people. Not for us.

Nice place to go and get away!! Clean park and easy access to water front. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. Would bring water to drink theirs is highly chlorinated. Other than that. No complaints.

The Park staff was friendly and working hard to prepare the campgrounds for the larger crowds that will visit in warmer weather. Law enforcement made rounds in the park and were also very friendly. Thanks for a nice visit.Restrooms: Clean & neat - showers were great.

The lake view trail ends abruptly at the edge of a cliff. Had to trace back steps to the fork and follow the path by the side of the hill to get to the start of the trail. This isn't marked on the map you get or on the all trails app properly. Be aware that the scenic overlook route does end on a cliff.Otherwise, a very quaint and stunningly beautiful slice of the natural bounty hill country has to offer. Loved it!

Gorgeous view. The water is so clear and blue here. The drive is beautiful, only 2.5 hrs from Dallas, full bloom wild flowers on both sides of the road, full of greenery and mountains, it doesn’t even feel like Texas. You can make a day-trip or spend the weekend there. The hikes are good and very refreshing. So many water activities are also available. There are good restaurants and Starbucks around this area. Highly recommend this place.

I love camping at this place it’s peaceful, and beautiful. You can come across white tail deer, javelina, bobcats, red foxes, and many more animals here. It’s a perfect place to camp or just to come relax for a day in nature. They have very clean restrooms and showers, they have a camp store with some amazing chili cheese fries and blue bell ice cream! They have a few playgrounds around the campsites and are pet friendly!

What a great experience! What the park lacks in hiking trails, it definitely makes up for in water fun! When I visited, I was at campsite #26, which is right on the water. The water is very clear in the mornings, but as the boats cause wakes throughout the day, the large waves stir up soil; however, it looks like if you camp during the week this may not be the case. I visited from a Friday through Tuesday morning, and on Sunday the place cleared out. Beautiful clear water all day Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. In fact, the place cleared out so much on Sunday that on Sunday and Monday nights I was all alone in my area. I'm not sure if this is how it always is, but this was my experience. The store on site was shockingly reasonable for necessities. A 10lb bag of ice was a little over $3.50 a bag... very reasonable. We rented a boat and swam in the middle of the lake, we also visited Hell's Gate and swam in the lagoon therein. There are a few trails, and though they total fewer than 4 miles, they do offer great views. One annoyance is that the bathrooms and showers were closed in my section of the park, so you are resigned to porto-potties. They do not do a good job of keeping them stocked with toilet paper, so if you have to go, make sure you bring some with you. Lots of bugs and spiders, so be ready for that. When I packed up my tent I was very careful to wipe it down all over, including below the rainfly. Those guys get everywhere. I did not get bitten, but as an arachnophobe, I obviously did not want to bring any home with me, lol. I was shocked at how comfortable the animals are with humans. I was able to get some good pics of visiting wildlife in the early hours of the morning. I honestly loved it here. I can't remember the last time I had such fun swimming and boating on the lake.

It's such a beautiful lake! Amazing sunrises, wonderful views. The store is great, very well stocked and staff is super nice. They rent single and double kayaks and boat/jet ski slips. We love it here.

We stayed in cabin 4. The cabin has a kitchen, bathroom and AC which was very useful as it was 100 degrees in the day time while we were there and even at night only got down to the 80's. The cabin does need some maintenance though. The door frame wasn't in good shape so we had to use the dead bolt as a door knob because the knob didn't catch. The fan over the stove also isn't working and I set off the smoke alarm while making breakfast. The lake is nice, spent some time in the water and rented a kayak. The trails are nice and there were a lot of flowers while we were there but this park doesn't have a lot of trails. There are about 2 miles total of trails here so it looks like this park is more for the lake then the land. The trees are small, I think the wind and rocky soil keep them from getting to big but still a good variety. We saw a really cool centipede too. I haven't ever seen one that big outside of a zoo before.

Beautiful park with great view of the lake. We had fun kayaking here and enjoyed the sunset. Took off one star for the cabin we stayed in (#2). It could use some updates, the wind made the window pane shake and make really loud noises at night time. The grill was also not attached. The hiking trails were short but nice outlooks of the river!

The shower facilities were not in as good a shape as other TX State Parks that I have visited, but the lake is one of my favorites. However, the park store, courtesy docks, nice shaded and fairly level campsites make this a very good park. The park store was very well stocked and it was nice to be able to get reasonably priced gas in the park, especially since the nearest town is approximately 20 miles.

Hikes to scenic vistas? ✅Armadillo sightings? ✅Walking upon a 6’ rattlesnake? ✅Skunk visiting tents and cabin? ✅Deer grazing everywhere? ✅Friendly ducks? ✅Perfect conditions for night fishing off the pier/dock? ✅Affordable cabins with basic accommodations make camping pretty relaxing! Great shower pressure and hot/cold water. Strong window unit for heat/AC. Functioning stove and microwave make prepping simple meals a breeze during the burn ban.The camp store has a little shaded picnic space with giant Connect 4 for communal use. And there are wilderness events and sessions hosted by staff most weekends.Give PKSP a try! You and your adventure crew will have a great time.

Perfect place for a 4 day stay. We had a good rv spot, no crowd at all, near bathrooms, and only about 250 feet from shoreline. #54 in Shady Grove. Friendly staff. Crystal at the store was super nice. The only thing negative was some tent people had dogs that barked at anything that moved, luckily, they stayed only one night. I do recommend this place all the way.Restrooms: Restrooms could use more attention, but having an RV, it wasnt a big issue.

Only problem is there are 'Reserved' tags up when the spots are not reserved. Guess that's a kinda big problem actually....The Camp Store and Crystal are great! Lots of gifts, clothes, supplies, and Great Food!! Thank You, Crystal! Camp sites are cool- some have water, some have water and electric, and some are primitive- our favorite. (Cause we got all the gear to make our ownLol 🙄) Still, I enjoy water and lights ready- made. Several super cool sites where we saw Foxes and Armadillos, and a Coyote up close in the middle of the day! Ready to go back😁Playground: Nice little Playground for the kiddosRestrooms: Restrooms were okay.....they have showers at all the camping areas (except primative)Dog-friendliness: Saw three dogs on leashes, I believe that's the rule.Picnic area: Up around the Camp Store you can take your food outside, and there is outside seating there, or a Day Use pic-nic table nearby.

Our first stop on our camping trip, water was at a cool temperature but felt really. Campsite was very nice with shade on both sides. Hike was the one in the campground and it was good. Rented a party barge for one morning and seen Hells Gate..

This state park is amazing. We drove 4.5 hrs from San Antonio and it was totally worth it.There are two possible hikes, very short and easy to do. If you are up for long hikes then I don’t recommend it but the walk up is still nice. This is definitely more a swimming/camping park.If you are looking for the Hell’s gate you should know there is no legal way to access it without a boat and you won’t be able to see it from the park. There are campgrounds and primitive camp sites that you can reserved, each picnic table has a faucet with clean water. Fishing is allowed and I was told you can find big bass and all kind of fish.Maps are available at the entrance, card payment available and a fishing store. (Mask required)Only 4 dollars per person to enter.

Great, relaxing State Park. Plenty of deer. Saw some possum, raccoon, and fox. Swimming in the lake was very relaxing! The in park store is very convenient and has a bit of everything. One can rent pontoon boat, or ski jet.

Rented a couple of cabins for the weekend. They are somewhat rustic, but quite usable. They have heat & AC. The park area is not very large. Small cabins have a grill and fire ring. Large ones have a rear deck. There are hiking trails. One of them is quite steep. They are maintained and marked. Kudos to the store staff. They seem to have everything you might need, along with a rather extensive selection of themed t-shirts. Things are somewhat pricey.

Grew up in Mineral Wells haven’t visited since I was a child. Great RV spots. Clean showers and restrooms. Very peaceful out here. The geese were migrating and the deer were fun to watch. Loved hiking around the trails.

Lakeview Site 26 was a perfect shady and secluded camping spot! Camped this past weekend and it couldn’t have been more perfect! Plenty of deer roaming at night along with wild pigs 🐷 Loved the camp store that literally had EVERYTHING you might need just in case you forgot something. Friendly folks in Possum Kingdom and can’t wait to come back to explore the beautiful park and lake again 😎

One of the better parks I've been camping at! Gorgeous rolling hills with fun little trails for a short hike! ( i wouldn't recommend going off trail due to the shrubs and cacti scattered everywhere). The bathrooms are clean and well stocked for the amount of traffic they get and the shower station had working hot water! If you want a really good campsite next to the lake you'd better book at least a month in advance because spots fill up fast! The swimming area grass is trimmed and well maintained, the lake shore has sandy and rocky patches! The swimming area floor in mostly soft and sandy. Minimal to no pollution ANYWHERE! Lots of insects but there were minimal mosquitoes. The woman in the store was super sweet! Plus they had everything from batteries and tent supplies to fishing poles and marshmallows! Gorgeous and safe family fun!

Possum Kingdom State Park is another beautiful Texas state park. I loved looking at the scenic views, getting to take pictures of the beautiful flowers and just enjoy being outdoors. I really liked that they had dog hook ups at the picnic tables, that made things more convenient. This is a great park to check out.

It’s ok place to visit. The water is murky and the swimming area is so so. Only portable toilets are available at day use areas.

Love this park! Recommend, when you go, stop in and say hello at the camp store. If you’re the least bit curious and care to ask, you’ll get some great recommendations for local sightseeing near the park (Johnson Peak and Morris Shepard dam are both well worth the short drive from the entrance). The limited trails within the park are very nice, and offer great views. If the wind isn’t over 10mph, you can rent a kayak or paddle board to enjoy on the water, and several marinas have vendors offering waterbikes and pontoon boat rentals.

IMPORTANT INFO: HELL'S GATE IS NOT at this location!Staff was extremely helpful and provided a lake map. I came here only to see Hell's GateYou cannot get to it from state park or by road. All the land surrounding the landmark is privately owned. The only way to get to this location is by boat I don't have a boat. It's absolutely depressing that state landmark access like this are limited to those who can afford a lake house or boat. This landmark should be accessible to all.
