Amazing no-kill shelter serving Comal County. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Volunteers love coming here, so the animals are well-loved and socialized. They were recently selected to be featured by the Puppy Food Bank due to the cleanliness of their facility. Because they care so deeply about the animals in their care, they take the time to try to match the right dog or cat with the right person or family. I cannot say enough good things about this place - check them out if you're looking for a furbaby to add to your household 😻🐶

We recently moved to the area. My son is a huge animal lover and really wanted a cat. So we went to the BAHS and they were so friendly. They let us wander around looking for the right fit. We ended up with a set of 5 year old sisters. They are the sweetest things. BAHS was great. They sent us home with carriers, food bowls, blankets, food and even a couple toys. If you are wanting to adopt a pet I would highly recommend coming here. These two have quickly become part of the family!Update: It's been almost a year and we love these little girls so much! In the beginning they were timid and kinda stayed to themselves (except for treat time,lol) but now they are even becoming lap cats. Diamond wants all her humans all the time, so if someone is in the bathroom she meows - loudly.

The people who run this place really care about the animals. I recently got a kitten from here & he already had been fixed, microchipped, received shots, dewormer & flea/tick medicine. They also gave me a voucher for a free vet visit, cat toys, food, & a cat kennel. There are so many adorable kittens for adoption there, I highly recommend adopting from this place!!2 year update: Sithis has become the most loving cuddly cat ever!! He’s never had any heath problems at all & he’s definitely a mommas boy! Will do anything for a belly rub :) thanks BHS!!

Recently found a dog believed to be a stray. Long story short his chip history led me to this humane society and they have been nothing short of helpful. Penny has been extremely kind and helpful. I’m really shocked with my experience and would highly recommend this location if looking for a forever pet ❤️

After finding a dog that would work out great for our family, I read over their woke rules and discovered that this place is more concerned about being petty than finding homes for dogs. I also spoke to a neighbor who works with them that they place animals in homes with people who have too many cats and dogs. This is not how this is supposed to work. They also continually ask for money from the tax payers to keep them afloat. With all of their rules on who can and cannot take in an animal it is a miracle that this place is still open.

Wonderful place to adopt a pet. Very caring people and very nice facility. I'm not sure if it's a no kill shelter, but I do help with donations of supplies. Please consider donating to this great organization. If you can't financially then consider donating blankets and towels. Pillow cases are great for cats too.

This is a shelter run by all volunteers. They truly care about the animals under care. They will take the time to listen to the type of pet you are looking for and make every effort to find a perfect match. The meet and greet yards for the dogs are like mini backyards, so you will really get to see how the dog will respond to you. And the cat housing has plenty of room to sit and visit. Come find you next pet at this wonderful shelter.

The staff and volunteers that work here are true Angel's. I brought in a very very sick baby kitten covered in infection and fleas and they did everything they could possibly do to get him healthy. They even sent me home with everything I needed to continue his care. They truly care deeply about all of their animals. You guys are the absolute best and THANK YOU for everything you do ❤❤❤❤❤

This place truly cares about the animals they have! We adopted to female Shepard mixes last year. Anytime I email or call with questions they have been quick to respond and guide in the direction we need. The girls coats have always been soft and thick from day one. They are upfront and honest with everything the know about the animals. They want to find the perfect match for you and your family 😊

After the loss of our sweet furbaby, the silence of paws on the floor were heartbreaking. So we decided to give another four legged angel a loving home.The Bulverde Area Humane Society is our local shelter. I was impressed with the love and care these awaiting animals to be adopted receive and clean facility. Thank you, that same day we added an addition to our family 🐾🐾🐕 he knows he's in his forever home!👍🏼

If I could give this place a zero I would. We went looking for a dog for our 14 year old son and saw a chihuahua on their website, so we stopped by to look at it. My son wanted a small dog to sleep in his room, so we went to the shelter. They let us take it into the play area and my son started to bond with it and then they found out we have 2 outdoor dogs. That's when it went horribly wrong. We rescued 2 ranch dogs a few years ago that were going to get shot. They were raised outdoors and lived on a 1,400 acre ranch, so they are not indoor dogs. As soon as they heard that we had 2 outdoor dogs, we were basically told we were not trusted and could not adopt the dog. It was so hard to watch my son cry in the back of the car as we left the shelter. I really question if they want the animals adopted out. No where on their website do they state that if you have an outdoor dog, you cannot adopt a dog. Just a warning for other people out there, if you have an outdoor dog, petted an outdoor dog, or seen a stray, go somewhere else and adopt a pet. This place is pathetic.

Found a wonderful dog that has become an incredible l companion, even house trained! Six years old and Black, most black dogs get killed because they are not adopted, please keep that in mind in choosing a pet. People there are wonderful especially Monika.

The folks here were kind enough to take a stray dog that we couldn't find an owner for. Their facility was clean and they are a no kill shelter. They were very accommodating and I would recommend them if you are looking to adopt a pet.

According to this shelter I was adopting a healthy dog, I was referral to Dr.Madrigal for a free exam to confirm it, however he didn't care to lie and perform a visual exam where he ignored a bag of mass on my puppy back leg when asked he replied is just muscle, not convinced I took my puppy to my family vet and found what was ignored before was a mass tumor that need it surgery. I came back to shelter and after over a month of waiting around they said they it was not their responsibility since to much time has pass, the only they can do is receive the dog back. I understood they saw my dog as a article that can be return to the store if found defective, THIS IS PLAIN WRONG proving no care or respect for the animals they should protect. I was very disappoint and upset about how fake people could be.

I'm Executive Director of Veterans Assistance Dogs of Texas. We take rescue shelter dogs and train them to be service dogs and give them at no cost to disabled Veterans who live in the State of Texas. We are always looking for good dogs. This shelter will not allow us to adopt good dogs for them to be trained. Their Board (only met with Tom/Pres) seems to be hung up on they had "ONE" Veteran who gave up his dog, and dog ended up in a kill shelter. We also hate to see this and take extreme precautions to see that it does not happen, but bottom line you can't stop all the idiots in the world. This "narrow" minded group will not even consider or look at our organization to see if we are credible. We have thousands of Veterans who could use these dogs and could provide them the care they need. Before I had a chance to even present our case I was told, "were not changing our mind". We're sorry the Humane Society of Bulverde chooses to not participate in helping Veterans.
