Horrible place. I've given them so many chances bc they are local. The most recent literally killed an yr old establishment 75g tank and everything in it. Lost 14 fish. I decided to add a 16$ weather loach to my tank. 4 days after all my fish where covered in what looked like ich but it wasn't ich. All died with in a week of that, last being my 6" blue elec. The female store owner decided to tell me it was my blue elec acara that became aggressive and killed then all. Noo that fish never ate any of his tank mates nor bullied them. Every time I've gotten fish from them they die. I went and bought 30 box of fin and body. Way over priced. 4 packets in the box were not sealed and nothing in them. I live over 15miles from the store and she says bummer, nasty remark after their contaminated water killed my tank.Their lack of accountability and rude customer service should be the main reason to never use them

Love this pet shop! The dog washing stations are so convenient for a hassle free bath. The owners also do low cost vaccinations and toenail clippings on scheduled days. BONUS! 👍🙂Update 12/23.. still the same great pet shop 🙂

Customer service is awesome! Guy helping was extremely knowledgeable. I'd say he's a goldfish expert. The owner's sense of humor is super dry so people without a personality might be put off, but it's a pet store not a therapy office. I got my fish and got out. Definitely will be back!

Nice store, but manager does not go out of her way to make you feel welcome. The store was empty and I brought a toddler for some goldfish. The manager obliged kindly enough, but strictly enforced her "no selection" policy on the goldfish. I get it...its policy. But when you have no one in the store waiting and multiple employees, it wouldn't kill you to give a five year old a white one....I offered to pay extra so she could take an extra second to scoop up the desired fish, but was told sternly twice "no selection" and was reminded that "they're just goldfish" (delivered with the tone of one who weilds the power). I was just about to drop a pretty penny on a tank, on flowers, rocks, an aerator and some food but decided that I didn't wish to spend anything else on the "just goldfish". I inquired at the counter if this woman was the owner as I couldn't imagine someone who wished to turn a profit would be so inclined to enforce such strict policy. I was informed she was the manager. And not wanting to be a poor guest, I paid my .81 cents and got out of her hair for the day. I don't know if we will be back. Now that I have my fish, I think I will cross the street to Walmart.

Today I used the self service dog wash. The staff happily greeted me as soon as I walked in, and helped me get set up in one of the wash rooms. The dog wash room had everything I needed to bathe, dry and groom my very fluffy Siberian Husky. It sure was a lot easier than bathing him at home! The pricing was very reasonable, way cheaper than taking him to a groomer.I will definitely be going back. I highly recommend this place! Great experience there!

I have been here several times & it's a hit or miss with customer service. The young gentleman working today was not very talkative or friendly & when I returned only an hour later(1 fish had died ) I asked him if he remembered me"not really" in a very rude voice. I knew he was busy with only ONE customer & politely asked if he could replace my fish when he was free. I waited a few minutes & saw he was just talking behind the counter doing nothing. The owner made a rude comment as well that "I do not need to bring a dead fish in with water"(Dry sense of humor maybe). I killed him with kindness & left after getting my fish. Not a have a nice day, sorry, or anything polite. I will drive to a different pet store even if it's out of my way.SHAME ON BOTH OF YOU! The girl working was super nice:) & could probably teach both of them how to treat customers. Read the other reviews!

I’ll give a 2 star because they do have some pretty cool stuff that retail doesn’t have or stuff I haven’t seen. I don’t have a terrible experience but I’ve never felt comfortable or welcomed when I go in. Not to be a panzy about it but most places you enter you expect to be shown some sense of greeting. It’s almost like they want you to hurry up and leave.

Super happy with my purchase yesterday. Bought 1 algae eater and 2 guppies to keep my Beta happy. Yes they get along. I googled it ahead of time. Young lady that helped me was super nice. She greeted me at the tanks within minutes which I appreciated. Bird dog and cat fish have the Best Beta fish anywhere.

Just drive to San Antonio.I had bought my daughter a cute/colorful/crazy lookin cage for her hamster for Christmas. Since she’s a child, she unwrapped it and immediately wanted to open it to look at the boxes contents. Later in the day she told me she didn’t really want it bc she wanted it’s habitat to be more “natural/wood”-like. So, decided to take it in to return it today, mind you the side of the box was torn (from present opening). There were 2 young guys there who basically just stared blankly at me until I said that I’d like to either return the item if possible or get store credit. The guy looked at the box (torn), smirked and scoffed, then started typing smthg in on register. Eventually he told me to put my card in slider to get my refund. While I did that, he fiddled with the torn piece of the box and scoffed again. Honestly, I went in there fully expecting to just get store credit bc of its condition. But now I’m glad I got a refund bc I don’t want to go back there. I gave 2 stars ONLY bc I like the items that they have in stock (more of a selection), and there was a girl that worked there my initial visit who was very kind. Unfortunately when you employee the wrong people (with a lack of customer service skills and just plain rudeness), it’s a detriment to the whole business. However based on other reviews, that I have since read, it seems as though that is not a concern.

The store is not bad but the owner is very condescending and rude. My wife and I are very experienced with kingsnakes so we are well aware of mouse sizes. Example. Pinkie vs fuzzy vs hopper vs adult mouse yet he decided to talk to my wife like she had no idea what we were talking about although we have raised 5 Kingsnakes and other multiple reptiles for multiple years. The only reason we have shopped here is due to location and convenience but recently he has also been rude to multiple friends of ours who live here with us locally in Bulverde. Even though the owner won't care about this comment and he WILL LIKELY MAKE A VERY UNPROFESSIONAL REPLY we will still not shop here at this very overpriced pet shop. Even the female ADULT who worked there said he was "mansplaining" when he talked down to my wife without me there. Where has customer service and southern hospitality gone these days??? Every other single staff member I have interacted with was very helpful and polite. Shame. When another pet store opens out here...which one eventually will...he will regret his inappropriate behavior.

Although the pets are very healthy with a good selection and the staff were very friendly I will not be recommending this store to those near this area. The owner has helped us on more than one occasion as I have bought all my pet supplies from him for almost 2 years. Although he was typically not the friendliest I had no quarrel with him and have bought pets and supplies several times. However, This last encounter takes was quite the surprise. We just bought a bunny the week prior from his store and decided our Pippin needed a bunny friend. We arrived with the intent of buying a bunny and immediately picked one up. Although I will admit I did not notice the sign that stated to ask to hold a bunny, I did put him down the second the friendly young staff member asked me to. I apologized for missing the sign and told him we were interested in buying a bunny. I then asked if my wife and I could please hold one, he said yes but to stay near the bunny pen as I had walked away initially to show my wife the bunny I wanted. I told him thank you and that that was no problem. A few minutes passed by and the owner storms over visibly upset and raised his voice at us. I asked him why it was necessary to treat us this way and he said it was because we had already been asked nicely by his staff and we weren’t listening. His demeanor was intense and intimidating. He told me he had had enough of me not listening to his staff who already informed me of their rules and that I was to put the bunny down immediately or get out of his store. I was surprised and confused by his response and reaction to the situation. I told him that there was a misunderstanding and that the rules were clarified which led to me putting the bunny down asking for permission before picking My future bunny back up. The owner stated he didn’t care what had been said and that he was telling me I had to stop now and leave the bunnies alone. I explained what took place with his staff member and asked for him to come help confirm my story as we were serious about buying a bunny and not just playing with his pets. He became loud and visibly more angry. I became agitated myself at this point as it became clear he had no intention of calming down. I told him I owned a bunny and understood why he was protective but that we came with the intent of picking the right bunny. I put the bunny down during the commotion as my wife tried to step in and calm him, he then directed his frustration at my sweet wife who simply wanted to resolve the obvious disconnect in communication. It was clear he thought we were intentionally disrespecting his store and pets which was far from the case. His animated demeanor intimidated my children who are small and in the middle of all this chaos. I wish they had not been there for any of that. The irony is right before the incident, my cousin came up to me in the store and told me she found the owner to be unpleasant because he had been rude to her husband on their prior visit….As shocking as it might seem We still bought the bunny in spite of the argument that took place because my girls had already fallen in love with the bunny (Merry) and I didn’t want to punish them for his actions. Upon leaving the store, The bottom of the box popped open and my poor bunny fell right out the bottom onto the parking lot as there was not tape on the bottom. I called the store upon arriving home as the bunny seemed upset and they said if he doesn’t calm down in a few hours that I should take him to get checked by a doctor, not a pleasant experience from start to finish. I am sad with how it went and wish it could have been resolved politely and calmly... I will give a shout out to Andrew and Devon as they were very helpful and we loved their customer service. I’m very disappointed in this experience, and am still troubled by it. I have never been talked to like that by a store owner much less an owner I have been a repeat customer of for a good while.

I come to this place a lot. Usually it is the gentleman with the gray curly hair and perhaps one or two younger people. It's always been a great experience in the past. Today I felt rushed. The lady with the long straight hair was slightly rude and very rough with the fish I was purchasing. I noticed a sign saying they were changing location. Perhaps the business has been sold because the experience was absolutely not a pleasant one. Plenty of fish in the sea... I will find a new pet store.UPDATE:Due to the response from the owner I'm going to add a star. I really do love this pet store. This was the only time I had ever had a negative experience. You will continue to get my business. I hope your new location adds to the success of your business. Have a great day Mike, I appreciate you and thank you!

I had decided to shop locally and support the small local companies. I had been in this store a few times and they seemed to be rather nice and accommodating. Although the last few times I have been in there they have been very rude. And when I paid $9.00 more for a bag of dog food then from where I normally buy from I mentioned the price difference to the owner and he told me to go buy it at the other place. Not very nice for a locally owned business. Needless to say, I won't be going back in there!!! Over priced and not a pleasant place to shop!!In answer to their reply.......That was the first time I had purchased the dog food.....owner was mistaken. I had a receipt for the other company showing the amount of the same dog food I purchased there. I would have gladly shown it to him. But after he was so rude about me mentioning the price difference....Being told to get it at the other place and he wasn't stopping me.....all I wanted to do was leave. But since I did ask him to get it in for me I felt obligated to buy it.

Having been a customer here for several years, I stopped in to buy some feeder fish for a tiny outdoor pond. The fish control mosquito larvae in the pond, but due to a snake that sometimes visits to dine on the creatures in the pond, I have to re-stock from time to time. Since the feeder goldfish were in poor condition, I chose to go for the feeder minnows that looked healthier that day. After waiting for several minutes, a young man showed up who tried to talk me into getting the goldfish, telling me the minnows were for food only, not pets. (I happen to have experience in this, and am aware of how to balance my mini ecosystem. I can also tell a healthy fish from a dying one, and most of the feeder goldfish fit that description. ) I explained that they were not going to be pets. He persisted in trying to sell me the feeder goldfish, and came across as pretty unfriendly. I walked out, disappointed that this nice place seems to have changed.

We really enjoy this store. The staff are usually busy but they are friendly and helpful. They know us on site and even when busy take the time to listen to my children about their reptiles. They usually have the feeders we need and even started making sure to get the size we needed when asked. Anyone who says they are rude just chalk up to those who are generally never happy about anything.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pet store! I got my first snake 4 years ago and had such a hard time finding feeder mice (they are literally the only ones under an hour away from me) I lived in spring branch and grew to know the owners and they are always lovely. I moved to new Braunfels and got a bearded dragon as well and I STILL drive to bulverde to go to this pet store and have never ever had issues . I bought a 40 gallon tank for $125!!! Which is an amazing price! Idk if they still offer that but that's what happened for me. I say, screw the bad reviews and go on in and check it out for yourself. You wont regret it ! 4 years later and they are my favorite small business!

Rude and unprofessional staff. I went in looking for a specific type of dog food. I was told they didn't carry that brand. Then they wanted to upsell their products basically shaming me for using the brand of dog food that I had requested. I declined the upsell and asked if there was another pet store close by. I was rudely told that they know nothing about any other pet stores in the local area. So, here's a tip for the staff. Treat your customers with kindness, respect and they'll likely return to your place of business.

This review is meant to be informative to prospective customers, not to bash or criticize. Went here for the first time today. Our family includes dogs, cats, birds, fish, and reptiles so I'm all about checking out pet shops. This was a good shop. No wow factor - so not a destination if you live far away - but a very good option if you're local. The owner and the woman working (also an owner?) were pleasant and willing to point me in the right direction. Bird section is sparse, but has all the essentials. Good selection of dog and cat food. Freshwater fish looked healthy and well kept. It appears they've given up on their saltwater section as there were no fish and the tanks were bursting with GHA and aiptasia. Of the items I bought, none seemed unreasonably priced. They have superworms and crickets for reptile feeders. They had a couple rabbits. Nothing else animal wise (so don't drive an hour expecting to bring a bird home). In short, good local source of supplies, but not a Polly's.

The staff is beyond friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They offer a variety of affordable, healthy and beautiful aquatic options. They have free Toenail Tuesdays usually on the third week (Id call ahead) and even a rewards program on pet food. Oh and a doggie wash and groom station you have to see!! The owners take pride in their store and it shows. Best beta selection around!! There's plenty for any pet owner and if your considering becoming a pet parent for the first time bypass the big chain stores and start here 🐢

Store is nice as always, good selection of stuff. What didn’t make sense at all was the fact as I was leaving I was told I needed to put my mask back on as that was disrespectful. Wouldn’t be a problem but there was 2 people behind the counter, 1 of which had his mask down the entire time we were in the store and the other had it down the time we were at the register. Don’t tell somebody they are disrespectful when the employees/owner can’t even follow their own rules!! Don’t expect people to follow your rules when you can’t even follow them yourself.

Love this place! Great selection of pets overall. Really good fish stock and supplies for very reasonable prices. The fish I buy are usually of really good size and health. (If there would be 1 friendly suggestion, would be to stock more live aquarium plants.

It was nice and fully stocked. Items are a little on the high side but I think he's right on track with other similar pet stores. Mandatory mask right now, owner adamant about this. Witnessed a customer get irritated about it, witnessed the owner borderline responded rudely. Had an open discussion with him and I understand his concerns. He does have a sarcastic sign regarding mask use and I told him because of that I would not spend a dime there. He understood my position as well. Great guy to have an open conversation with about this sensitive subject. If you're looking for specialty pet items, this is the place to go.

Took my dog for a bath less than 3 days ago. Has been itchy since and has scabs. Now have to take my service animal to the veterinarian. Has never happened at Petco. Took him here for the first time. The towels given to me, one had a maggot and I immediately put it on the floor. Checked all other towels and the tub. EXTREMELY disappointed.

We buy fish and feeder mice here! Staff has always been very friendly and helpful! They have a wide selection of pet foods, dietary meals, and stuff like that, leashes, animal clothes, toys, pretty much anything you need.They have a selection of fish aquariums, supplies, starter kits, treatments and food. Good supply of feeder fish and (pet) fish, they for sure have fresh water, I know there was salt water but since I don't have SW I don't look at then often.Reptiles, they don't have a stock of live reptiles. They enclosures, supplies, starter kits, heat lamps, pads, hides everything other than the reptile them selves.They have mice, rats, and bunnies for sure.I have not seen cats,kittens, or dogs. All in all it is a great local business and you need to check them out.Out of $$$$$ I give it a $$$ on prices. But you are welcome to drive into San antonio to save 5$
