Beware!I exclusively used this facility for over seven years, and I personally recommended both face-to-face and online. Unfortunately, with the passing of Hardy, the care for animals has suffered. It is unsafe for dogs.Beware!

I highly recommended Big Oaks! I’ve been taking my dog, Sherlock, here for two years for boarding and they have always done an excellent job. Sherlock gets very excited when he realizes we’re heading there, which to me is a great sign. The staff is always helpful, caring and goes above and beyond to provide a great experience!

My Golden Retriever has stayed there before without incident. This time my normal groomer was busy and I needed him groomed before we took off on a lengthy RV trip and I remembered Big Oaks Kennel offered grooming as well. They were able to accommodate us and I emailed them his current shot record. I dropped him off without incident and talked briefly with the person who I think is the groomer and empathized that I need him bathed and deshedded, also nails done, feathers and sanitary trim. When I picked him up, he looked OK, but still slightly moist. In the days that followed I noticed that the sanitary trim wasn't done and the deshedd also apparently wasn't done either. I paid $120 for a "full groom" and got less that 50% of that value.

Update- Just got my dog back from boarding here again. It’s a drive from where I live, but I will continue taking her there because of the people and facilities. I can’t recommend them enough.They took great care of my dog! Fantastic people!

Our dog loved staying 2 nights at Big Oaks! Our family felt at ease with leaving our fur baby in the hands of their care. We called last minute before a vacation out of town and they made arrangements to fit our dog into their kennels. And WOW what a beautiful property Big Oaks is! Next time we’re in need of a kennel, training and/or dog park we will no doubt choose BIG OAKS!

I found Big Oaks Kennel after the Canine Hilton closed (I'd been a client of theirs for 30 years). I'm so happy with this place! My three dogs have been very well cared for each time I've boarded with Big Oaks; they are happy when we arrive and happy when I pick them up. The prices are reasonable for the care level. Plus you can tell the staff actually like animals and that is a huge plus. Nice grounds, very clean and well kept and only about 5 minutes from my home.

This place is amazing. They have amazing staff, most notably their newest trainer Alex. They took my dog from being absolutely terrified (rescue COVID pup) of everything to being one of the most confident pups in just a few weeks. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they take very good care of the pups when in boarding.

My breeder recommended Big Oaks for their training program as he has used their services for all his dogs. I started with the puppy training and then sent my German Shorthair Pointer to train with Alex on-site for 6 weeks. Every week when I came to work with her, I was impressed by how much she has learned. I now take her everywhere with me and I get so many compliments on how well she behaves. When we get another pup, I’ll be coming back to work with Alex.

I tried to reschedule my grooming but they wouldn’t allow me to unless I sent them another 20$. Don’t come here cause they’re not understanding and very inconsiderate of your time and money I understand for cancellations taking the full amount but I just wanted to reschedule. The lady on the phone was very nice and polite but it’s just a waste of time coming here if you have bumps in the road or something comes up. I needed to revaccinated my dog cause when I sent it in I noticed it was overdue and I just wanted to reschedule within the time frame of me getting her vaccinated and valid for her next groom and they were very inconsiderate about that.

The staff is great. The location is next door to City Hall on Main St. There are various options for kennelling. For group play, they put dogs of similar size together. They evaluate your pet on the 1st visit to see where it will fit in best and how it interacts with other dogs. They have been my kennel of choice for the 2 years I have been in the area. And, Patches enjoys the change, too.

This place is terrible. Additional charges that were previously undisclosed and they hold your dog until you pay them. They didn't finish the services agreed upon, then doubled the charge at pickup. So now we have a half bathed dog without clipped nails and not brushed. But still paid $100. Our dog was nervous (first time, new re-home). They had no strategies to get the agreed upon services completed. Avoid this place!

This is the best place I found for my dog! I took him to a few other places before Big Oaks and he would always come back traumatized. When I drop him off at Big Oaks he gets excited, and comes back even more happy! They are the first to get his grooming exactly the way I requested and they truly care about your dogs. No joke. Left my two fur babies with them over 4th of July weekend. First time they've ever been boarded, so I was concerned how they'd do. They were placed together in the newest facilities for small dog. No signs of any stress upon pick up. They seemed to have enjoyed their stay, which is all that matters to me.Love the facility, grounds, people, and the awesome care. Will definitely be returning with my fur babies for some dog park time and some training classes.

Amazing people that know their stuff and know their community. The kennel is first class and reasonably priced. The head head dog trainer is an absolute dog whisperer; I have watched many dogs come in for training and a few months later leave ready for hunting or protection. The staff love animals as their own are always near. Clean. Location is perfect for I35 corridor.

We just picked up our dogs, one pitbull/lab mix and one blue heeler mix, and they have never been more exhausted. They are very hyper, high energy dogs, plus the blue heeler doesn't play well with others, but that obviously didn't take away from their experience here. Since we've been home they've been sleeping, which never happens. The staff at Big Oaks couldn't be nicer and obviously took very great care of my pups. We will definitely be back. I recommend this kennel to anyone looking for a caring, well priced place for your furry family members to stay.

Paid for the yard experience so she could run around and not be stuck in a cage all day. Would give zero stars if possible. They left my dog in a kennel for 7 days because she acted aggressive they said, yet refused to call the emergency number I left for her to be picked up by family.

I have boarded my two large dogs here over the past couple years, and first tried them only because the boarding facility closer to my home was full. I was so satisfied at the care that I have continued using Big Oaks with no problem. I like the fact that my dogs get to be together and get tons of exercise time. I usually arrange for a bath before I pick them up, and they have always been returned to me clean and happy - one less worry while I'm away. I think their prices are quite reasonable compared to other kennels that offer play areas, and I don't have to worry about picking up a dog that is weirded out or nervous. One of my dogs requires daily medication and they are always good about that as well. Never one issue in several times of boarding there.

We decided to kennel our Giant Schnauzer here while on a weekend trip out of town.We had a rather unpleasant experience at the Onion Creek Kennel, plus they don't offer a tour of the facility.At drop off, we were given a tour of the facility and even saw the kennel our pup was given. She had access outside as well as the a/c inside in her kennel. We got to see the running/play area for the dogs.This property is beautiful. It was nice to see the dogs having appropriate space instead of being put in a travel kennel like I suspect onion creek does. The staff is so friendly and seem to genuinely care for the animals they look after, which was very refreshing.Our pup Bear was in a great mood when I picked her up, no change in behavior, and wasn't missing her voice and wasnt dehydrated--this is what happened when we kenneled her @OCK. We will definitely be back! Thank you for taking such great care of our puppy!

Best Kennel I've ever been to. Elaine & Hardy are always welcoming and helpful. We also love how our dog is ready to sleep for a few days after a weekend of exercise and playtime at the Big Oaks!

Horrible place to take any fur baby. I took my four year old hound and he's not the same anymore after returning from Hardy's care. It's like my dog fears contact now and doesn't want to be around any other person or animals. Stays so distant I thought he might be dying of loneliness so I had to take him in for a checkup. Vet knew immediately he was in a traumatic encounter with somebody animal or human. I called to tell Hardy about my issue and he cussed me out and gave me my answer within 2 minutes of call. Someone who can explode with expletives for a customer calling to get to the bottom of a situation within a couple minutes isn't of sound mind. Hopefully others don't encounter these issues with my help. I have hope to help others find better care to not put your animals through whatever transpires at this place of torment.

We sought training for our newly adopted dog. Murphy is about 2-3 yes old and is a large, rambunctious dog. The owner of Big Oaks, Hardy Purvis, was amazing! Murphy seemed to know in an instant that Hardy was the Alpha. He took so much time demonstrating the actions and commands we needed and worked with each of us to make sure we were doing each action correctly.After only 6, group classes, Murphy is awesome. We can introduce him to people in public, he can sit, stay, lay down, heal, and come. We have also utilized the dog park, boarding and day care services. Murphy recognizes the kennel when we drive up, and he get excited every time! It is nice to know that we have a safe, clean, fun and loving place to leave our boy when we are not at home. I highly recommend Big Oaks Kennel, and Hardy & Elaine Purvis for your kernel and training needs.

We would not recommend this place anymore, since the owners were on vacation- and had others looking over the facility - the impression we got from the people overlooking was "just a job" not personnal affection toward one's pet. After not returning one's call, to ask for an update, we had to call again only to find out that they left his food out overnight, which included rotisserie chicken, not processed. Pets are like family members and our impression was he was not treated well, for a business that specializes in pet care, i would not call this latest experience as pet care.

Took my dog for a nail trim because she freaks out at the big pet stores. She did great and it was less expensive. Good place for doggie day care or overnights, too.
