The staff and all involved in the adoption of our dog Sadie were awesome. The process was extremely pleasant and stress free. The facilities were extremely clean and very well cared for. All of the animals at this facility were obviously loved and well cared for. Thank You to All at the Hill Country Humane Society!!!

The staff here are so caring! They took so much time with us to make sure we got the right dog for us and they gave us toys, collar ,leash, harness, a blanket, stuffed animal and even gave us her furry awesome bed! Such a better experience than the Georgetown shelter.

The staff and volunteers here are amazing. You can tell that they care so much about all of the animals. It's a smaller shelter, but they help so many area communities that they are overwhelmed with dogs. Seriously, if you are looking to add a new member to your family, check this place out. I can guarantee that you will find an animal that is exactly what you are looking for.

Over the spring we were forced to surrender our fur baby because he had bitten a tenant. The staff member (who had adopted him to us) at the HCHS assured us that they would be either working with him personally or have someone (the worked with closely) working with him to rehabilitate him so that he could either return to us or be rehomed if that were not possible. We asked if we could visit regularly, and were told that regular visits when he couldn't come home would be detrimental and feel like punishment. We understood and planned to just "wait it out"JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS later, on a day when we were on the way out the door for a medical procedure (surgery) for my wife, I received a call from HCHS. "We can't work with this dog, we're putting him down today. No, you can't come say goodbye. No, you can't be with him while it happens.".<CLICK>I've never been more furious about anything in my 53 years. So, not only did our baby spend the last two weeks of his life in isolation, but ended his life without seeing us or any sign of comfort at all.PS: This is our Oliver the day we adopted him, a skittish abused puppy at the same HCHS 2.5 years earlier.

I saw a cute picture of a small dog who was found around a bridge. During my visit with her she was terrified of most people including me. The staff here are are warm and welcoming. Cinnamon warmed up to me on second visit and I brought her home. She is my shadow and has felt at home from the first step in our house.

We fostered a dog and then adopted him later on because he fit in with our family so well. The entire process was seamless.

By one lady I was treated rudely I was told that I was not qualified to get a dog because it would have a dog run into the house with a doggie door they said the dogs had to be strictly indoors when the there web site pictures show the dogs outside

Some of the lady’s were rude but I also was supposed to get a deposit back and they say they sent it through the mail months ago and I still have not got my money back.

They were nothing but sweet. Helped us find the right dog for our family. Allowed us plenty of time to talk it over. Let us ask tones of questions and sent home a big care package for our new puppy! One of the best animal shelters I have been to.

I don’t love writing reviews but this place took me through a ride of emotions. We went it to discuss Tank and meet him as well as talk about our cat we adopted several months ago. Darlene was the lady we dealt with and truly is one of the meanest ladies I’ve met since coming here. I almost walked out from how she talked to my husband and I. First, we adopted a cat 6 months ago and were told she was cat friendly. She isn’t. And that’s OKAY. Not all cats are. She’s the sweetest baby and we want her to go to a home where she’s the only animal with no children. She hides in a closet all day and hates my male cats. She deserves better. Darlene’s advice? Throw her outside. She was a stray two years ago she’d be fine. Atrocious. Next we talked about Tank and she told me that she has no idea if Tank was good with cats. Yet I explained numerous times I had already emailed with staff to confirm about him. I also explained he had already met a child. Darlene’s input? To never let my son be alone with any dog because they will ALL bite my child if given the opportunity. Unasked and unsolicited parenting advice. This continued with her questioning, second guessing, and not listening. I almost walked out because of her behavior. The reason this place is getting 4 stars is because the lady that helped me and my family meet tank and sugar was the KINDEST human. She loves the dogs more than anything and you can tell connects with them. She answered all questions and you can tell the dogs are all well cared for.

Adopted my puppy from HCHS on 3-22-22. Darlene, Terrie and Michelle were all absolutely wonderful. They and the other staff and volunteers clearly work very hard at caring for the animals and keeping the shelter spotless. Well worth the drive to find the newest member of our family.

They have a great facility with a good place to visit with the dogs where they aren't overstimulated by the other dogs. They made it easy to adopt...our little guy was already fixed or they would have given a voucher for our vet, they micro chipped him and included tags!! Such great people to work with, they really care about and love the animals. They told us all the stories about his time there and any eccentricities he had... As a result it's a perfect match!! So glad we adopted our furrever pet here!!

I took a chance and went to Hill Country Humane Society to look at an Australian Shepherd puppy named Winnie. I was so impressed with how the volunteer took my information, assigned staff to walk with you to the kennels, and even asked you to wipe your feet with a solution that keeps from spreading germs in the kennel. Everything smelled clean as I entered the dog area. Winnie was as cute as the picture they had posted and I knew she was the dog for me. Ashton was knowledgable about the dog and answered all my questions. He also explained about her shots, getting spayed, and heart worm prevention. He let me play with her and get acquainted. The fees were reasonable for the care and shots she received. When I adopted her, they gave me a choice of several treats and toys, collar, etc. to take home with her. It was a huge help getting these supplies as I had given all my dog supplies away, over a year ago, when our Boston Terrier died of cancer. This shelter is run professionally and the staff care about the animals. I am so glad I came to this special place! Oh, one more thing to share. I did change my dogs name to Peaches because she such a sweet little peach!

I recently went into the shelter in search for a particular breed. I was greeted with much hospitality and much kindness. Upon viewing the dogs that I was in search for it was then that I found the one that in my opinion found me. The process from the beginning to the very end was very pleasant. I’m very grateful to have found such a wonderful pet to adopt and call my own. Would highly recommend this facility. A huge over-the-top thank you for everyone that was a part of this process both in front and behind the doors. Sincerely Eva and Spuds❣️

The folks at Hill Country Humane Society are awesome! If you're looking for your next fur baby, give them a call. If you need your pet chipped, name tags, nails trimmed, give them a call. All services are by appointment only now, so give them a call. Thank you, HCHS, for all you've done for our fur family! Vickie D

This place is a joke! How can you call yourself a Non-Profit organization when the only animals you will take in are the ones the City of Burnet pays you for! I had a small kitten show up at my house from out of nowhere. I have 3 large dogs that are not cat friendly. She obviously needed some antibiotics since she walked up blindly to my house because her eyes were swollen shut. I live outside the City Limits so the Animal Control said they wouldn't do anything, I called my Vet and they said to take it to a shelter. I drove 30 mins. to Lake Buchanan and was pretty much shooed out the door as soon as I walked in. They said "The city pays us for our spots to house their animals, so we don't take any animals from the public" Pretty sure I pay Taxes, so that Money your getting from them is actually coming from Tax Paying Citizens! So not only are the getting money for ONLY housing animals that the Animal Control brings them, but they also profit from the Public by selling "adopting" the animals they get from the Animal Control. Talk about Double Dipping!!! What a terrible place! Oh btw... they also stated that they don't keep any animals there. So whoever doesn't get adopted I am assuming gets killed. So whoever said this wasn't a kill shelter was wrong!! HORRIBLE PLACE with HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Always helpful. July 4th weekend they helped us to return a dog that had been scared by the fireworks to her owner. Good thing too, the rescue dog and owner weren't from around here. If Hill Country Humane Society hadn't been able to help, no telling if we would have been able to connect scared dog with out of town owners.

These people AWESOME! They had too many kittens... Luckily I had two adult cats that were fixed and declawed. They promised to find them good homes. FYI It costs $50 per animal... At least the cats.
