Went there on a Thursday as that is their chicken fried steak day. Got there at 11:30am and place was already packed. They give you so much food I think I'm the only one in there that ate all of it. Everything was very good.

Friendly local owners. Great daily specials. They have burgers. Today we had the fried catfish and curly fries. Sometimes they have chicken fried steak. Fully stocked local grocery store with ice and gas! Nice outdoor deck with flat screen tv.

Superb home cooking in an historic old country store with ice cold beer to boot. Lunch specials: Mon- juicy burgers(available Mon-Sat), Tue-choice of chicken enchiladas, steak tacos, or flautas, Wed-hamburger steak, Thu-chicken fried steak(best you'll ever have), Fri-fried catfish, Sat-burgers. The also serve fresh cold cut or tuna sandwiches from the cooler. Seating in back room. Cold beer, sweet tea, or Cokes. Kitchen is closed on Sunday. Lots of neat history to this little town. There are two nice plant nurseries to browse in town as well. Did I mention they sell/serve cold beer?

I had the pleasure of stopping here for some rest while cycling the ACA Southern Tier from Honey Island to Austin. This is the perfect place to stop for a break. Cold beverages, nice sandwiches, and some of the best people you will ever meet. The owner is very bicycle friendly and I have no regrets stopping here. One of the highlights of my trip!

Stopped by this historic store many times before, but always after the kitchen closed. Today, after a relaxing drive out on Lone Star Rd./William Penn, we lucked out and caught one of the best homestyle burger in a very long time.It is an out of the way place and very popular with cycle clubs and local ranchers.Made to order on old school flat top griddle.Cheers! 👍🍔💪🤙

The owner(?) was very informative about Independence, TX and where we could find the historic Bayer Park. In fact, he asked us when we came back for lunch if we found everything we asked about. Lunch was really good, too. It's a home town store with a deli/lunch counter. It has its own unique history.

Nice little convenience store. Friendly staff. There is a restuarant inside with good sandwiches. Good place to stop if you visit Old Baylor College or the Rose Emporium.

Enjoyed our day trip to Independence and saw Bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and History of the little town. Stopped and picked up lunch for a picnic. The hamburgers were delicious.

Friendly people. They've got groceries, beer, lotto, serve lunch. The gas pumps out front actually work, folks. So please don't park in front of them unless you're getting gas.
