Joy was so helpful. Balmorhea is a unique oasis. The Cactus motel is also unique.....the clear cold water from the springs that fill the pool at the state park flows next to the porch right outside our room. It made a great place to sit and have an evening drink and for morning coffee We saw a large snapping turtle 🐢. The Cactus motel is rustic but we love it.

Arrived late and the owner was an older lady and very helpful and nice. The room was clean and had a western theme. There's a small park across the side road and a store within walking distance. Love helping small businesses like this one versus corporations. Would definitely stay here again.

Super friendly older woman, with a sweet grandmother vibe, tended to any needs we had. Offered us a home cooked meal as we are traveling workers. Rooms were excellently keep. The grounds are free to roam, with an ice machine a washer and dryer. Which is rare in Balmorhea. 10/10 would stay again. Thanks again Ms. Joy for making us feel at home.

If I could I have given a negative star I would have done it. Ok. So we had a really great time at Balmorhea as always but this time we got a hotel so we could just stay the weekend instead of making a long day trip out of it. Word of advice: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES STAY AT THE CACTUS MOTEL!!! The lady that runs it gives hoarder a whole new meaning. A couple of the rooms that are supposed to be used for people are jam packed with junk. She lives in the lobby with poor overfed Corgi and cat. The lobby reeks of cat pee and cigarettes. And to get anywhere in the motel you have to maneuver yourself around more junk that she's collected over the years. And she charges $80 a night for crappy rooms that you can't walk in and are worn down so bad. She also spies on you when you are BBQing across the street while you're having fun and minding your own business. She's ridiculous.

We were stranded in Balmorhea Texas for almost a week during a winter storm and stayed at the cactus motel. The owner was very nice and accommodating. She gave us extra blankets

The room was clean but their court yard needs a lot of TLC. The canal out back was pretty cool, had quite a number of big turtles swimming about.

Was not what I was expecting. The lady was very nice to me. In the room I stayed in, there was a GIGANTIC bed and a small bed.It was hot though. Nice and cozy.

This is a very quaint hotel. Doesn't seem great on outside but the rooms are clean and very cute on inside. Bed was comfortable and very quite.
