Had a very great experience here. Friendly staff and the food was good. I thought the chicken salad was a little dry, same with the chicken added to the salad, but not a big deal. I think that more comes down to preference. They had live music that was a nice touch. Service was outstanding! Friendly staff all around. We will absolutely be back to eat here. Pricing was 100% reasonable for what you get. We also enjoyed the atmosphere as it is a former wedding chappel that they turned into a restaurant about 5 years ago. We also ordered the special for the evening of shrimp and scallops. Absolutely cooked perfectly! We recommend this for a good night out with adults! We had two children with us, and they were just fine, but it's very tailored to an evening out with adults as it should be. Great spot! There is also a nice draw bridge next door you can walk across and try to spot some trout.

I love their steamed sandwiches. Food here is delicious. The building is so beautiful inside. Ample space for large groups, or cozy little areas for couples. It also sits on the river and in nice weather, it’s wonderful to sit outside and enjoy watch the tubers float on by.Vegetarian options: They offer a few vegetarian options.Parking: There is more than enough free parking.

This was a very nice restaurant that had just recently been renovated. The inside is really nice with a great view of the river. They even have live music on the weekends. They also have an outside dining area located along the edge of the river. The biggest complaint I had was the food was just okay. I had the pulled pork sliders and they were okay. A little small in portion size as well. My wife had the hamburger and it was just a little plain as well. If you are coming to have some drinks and don't mind your typical bar food, this place would be great. Also be aware that there is no table service. You order at the bar and they will bring your food to you. Everything else is up to you. Nothing wrong with this, just be aware.

Don’t miss this place on your way through Townsend! The first thing you see is the awesome renovation they did of an old church. Still using the pews and beautiful wood tabletops. You can also sit outside on their large patio along the river.Next you come up to the bar where you’ll find a great beer selection, and just a few wines. You also order food here. I inquired about the “steamed” sub as it sounds weird… I went for it and it was basically a nice hot sandwich that was still soft - not soggy. The best part is, ALL of our sandwiches had a ton of meat! MmmmWe had a large group and everyone was pleased with their order.

We made a special trip to Townsend after hearing about The Abbey. We ate the steamed turkey sandwich and the Abbey burger. The sandwich came with plain chips and the hamburger came with tater tots. We both enjoyed our food and the atmosphere was relaxing. We ate inside, due to all the tables outside were occupied. We had an excellent view from inside and the temperature was perfect; not to warm and not freezing. After eating we sat outside and enjoyed the view. If you’re in the area, stop and give it a try. I think the dinner menu may be different than the lunch menu. We’ll be trying The Abbey’s dinner menu in the future.

Our family of 5 stopped at The Jeep store and then lunch in Townsend on our way out of Gatlinburg. We chose The Abbey and the food was a-ma-zing. We ordered the trout cakes with mac-n-cheese and veggies, the steamed pastrami sandwich with chips, the veggie flatbread and the brisket sandwich with tots. Everything was delicious but the trout cakes were the absolute stars! Smokey and the perfect texture. See pic. They have a chef that makes specials daily and you can tell with every dish. Even the side veggies were plentiful and totally delicious. The renovated church-now-restaurant is right on the river and our table was by the window with full view of the water. This is definitely our new go-to!

Dinner: We reserved a room for our group of 20 adults. Overall, we had a great time! Our server, Sandy, was magnificent. Janice, the owner was very friendly and helpful. We had Prime Rib and Chicken as our entrees with green beans, salad, and twice baked potatoes as our sides. Everything was properly prepared and delicious! The bartenders were spectacular. And, what can I say about the view. The river is wonderful from our room off of the main bar area and the patio is very relaxing. We hope to make this an annual event. Thank you!Dietary restrictions: We have two members of our group who are gluten free, and they supported their food choices perfectly.Parking: Our group included several who have mobility challenges. The facility is easy to access and move about

Extremely cool little place to swing by. It's far enough away from the main touristy areas that it doesn't feel like a tourist trap. There were plenty of people there though which is always a good sign. Food was excellent (the steamed sandwiches are warm and soft but not hard like toasting the sandwich would make it). It's very, very reasonably priced for the big portions you get. There's also a lot to explore with the river nearby and the history inside. Definitely worth it if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Also, make sure to check out the rope bridge about 100' east of the Abbey!

The location is great, right on the river with a nice outdoor area. The atmosphere and character of the building is unique. But we were not impressed with the food. Also the function of the restaurant didn’t make sense, order and pay then sit down but go back to the bar for more drinks. It has great potential if some things were improved!

We had the flatbread pizzas. They were very good! We loved the atmosphere and location! I wouldn't recommend running a tab though unless you don't mind standing in line more than once. They are doing some renovations and a little short staffed so you have to order at the bar for now! But definitely worth going to for lunch or dinner! This old Chapple is beautiful and they are adding some amazing things to it!

Really enjoyed most of our food. The chips that came with the pulled pork sliders are freshly made and so good! The pretzel with beer cheese was also really good but the pretzel was overcooked and hard but not a big deal. Cheese bread was just a cheese pizza and the apple&pork belly pizza wasn’t a hit for us. But overall would order again !

We booked a private room for a wedding rehearsal dinner of about 20 people. The Abbey chef had a hill to climb due to the Bride's food alkergies: no soy, no dairy, no glutten. They served smoked brisket, salmon, roasted vegetables, roasted potatoes, salad, and appetizers. Prepared a special almond flour cake with fresh fruit. It was great! I opened a tab for our guests for cider and craft beer. We served wine also. All the guests were amazed. I tried adark craft beer, most guests tried their various ciders......all were good! I live in VA, and wish I lived closer so I could visit this venue weekly. It is true gem!Dietary restrictions: Need I say more ...no soy. no dairy, no gluten They handled it!
