Adjacent to the river; immaculate; friendly. Easy to maneuver in and out. easy to access the sites. bathrooms are the cleanest we have ever seen in a campground. Our site was shaded, with a firepit, plenty of room in between sites. Layout of each site is well thought out - our picnic table and front area was not right up against the neighbor's sewer hookup. Views were incredible. Even the dog park had plenty of grass and a shaded area. We hope to be back again soon.Noteworthy details: Immaculate. Everything from the RV sites to the sitting area next to the river to the bathrooms - spotless!

This year by mistake I arrived a day early. All lots were occupied. The owners made arrangements for me in their storage area for the night. I have been coming here for five years now. The park is quite and very family oriented. I consider Townsend to be the jewel of the Smokies. Access to the sites and amenities of the entire area is world class. I can't say enough about my experiences with the campground management. I will be back as often as I am able

Mr. Bagwell,Shame on you, sir. The citizens of your county and those interested in visiting your location need to know how insulting and obnoxious you are to the individuals who visit your county. Today, my family and I took a day trip to Pigeon Forge and had an unfortunate encounter with an individual by the name of Greg Bagwell and a much older female. We observed an area of Pigeon Forge Creek and stopped along the way for some photographs to give for Christmas gifts. We parked in an empty parking lot on private property and walked across the street to take photos. A very short time later, my wife called me and told me she was confronted by two subjects while she was at our vehicle and threatened with law enforcement. These individuals called the Townsend Police Department and reported us for trespassing.I’ve been in law enforcement for 32 years and I know what trespassing is, and our only intention was to take photos for family Christmas. We were present for about 10 minutes. When I returned to my vehicle, I met with an elderly lady, who was extremely rude. She told me we had no business on their property. I apologized and told her we only wanted to take photos, and that we would be on our way. She said they had called law enforcement and reported us for trespassing. We wished both individuals Merry Christmas and was met by a Townsend Police Sergeant down the road. He could not have been any nicer, and we were thankful for his professionalism. This location is lovely, but it was unfortunate to deal with such rude people. Other places are much more friendly and welcoming if you're looking for a place to spend money and make memories. The best part of our day was meeting with such professional law enforcement from the City of Townsend. This officer went above and beyond for us and was extremely helpful and professional during the course of his duties.

We had a good stay. Park was clean and had beautiful views. It’s a short drive to the national park and all the sights. Staff was friendly and helpful.Be aware the internet is slow and they do note it’s not for streaming. Also, like other reviews have said, there is an older gentleman on a golf cart that doesn’t hesitate to fuss at you (or your kids) if he doesn’t like something. Just follow the rules and keep an eye on your kids.

AWESOMEFirst time staying ( here for a long weekend) and has been awesome! The whole facility is very clean. ALL the Staff amazing! Helpful and Kind! They had neat splash pad and playground for children! All the arrival, check in and out , and the payment and cancellation policies are very clear. They go above and beyond to help their customers. The Father and son even helped with some technical issues, which they helped get resolved! They went out of their way! So appreciated , thankful and grateful! Not stuck in traffic or the hustle and bustle! But Located close to attractions or just relaxing! We will be back! Hope y’all will check them out too!

Big Meadows Family Campground is absolutely an amazing and beautiful campground to park your camper at. The husband and I throughly enjoy every time we visit this campsite with our three fur babies. The Johnson family is so kind, welcoming, and goes out of the way to make sure the grounds are perfect for every camper. They always seem to have a smile on their face and make sure to share a wave as they drive around doing their job throughout the day! If you are looking to set up camp and enjoy the views of the Smokys, this is definitely the place to do it! We can’t wait to go back!Safety: Gated campground and very secure area.

Rv and camper lot. Has bathrooms and showers with washer and dryers available to guests. It has a nice splash pad for the kids and a decent playground. The campground is practically touching River Rats tubing which is super convenient. The staff are super friendly. We have held our family reunions here several times in the last few years. There’s a pavilion that you can rent for the day that has a small kitchen and lots of seating. The small store offers parts for your campers in case you break or forget something.

If you want an RV campground that supplies:• a list of long rules• unfriendly staff (until you leave, then all smiles and questions of when you’ll be back)• no trash service (hidden dumpsters)• your visitors have to pay $5 to visit• monthly rate is over $1200• no pool• community fire pit (pay $20 to rent one)• you have to pay a $1 for usual complimentary coffeeWe are full timers and have camped all over the South East. We have never come across such a high rate with low amenities. Especially such an unfriendly staff that doesn’t seem to enjoy their job.We love leaving good reviews and are Karens. We will be back to the Smokies but won’t be back here. Others complained to us about the same issues.

This campground is super clean, well kept, and just right. The owners have rules and enforce them which may sound like a bummer, but is highly respected in my book. This means the “family” in Big Meadow Family Campground means that it’s truly is great for families.

Let me start with this place is Amazing! Very clean and very well maintained! Loved the concrete pads. They have a basketball court(basketballs in office), play ground and splash pad. Perfect for kids! We stayed by the river but there is a road in between the river and camp grounds and it was a very busy road, people FLY down them. Probably will stay in the back next time. Everyone we met working was absolutely friendly, great customer service! Loved the gate and keycard. Definitely will be back!

Decent campground right on the river. Prices are reasonable, and the town is very quiet. If you need more than a general store and a basic grocery store, you're going to have to drive to Maryville or pigeon forge. The staff at the campground is awesome. They really bend over backwards to help you out. We'll definitely stay there again!

This park was very clean and quiet. The staff was extremely helpful, gave us tips on some good views of the Smoky Mountains, places to eat and best directions. The park store had one of the largest selection of RV accessories and supplies. Views from the park itself were beautiful. Would definitely stay again.

What a beautiful park, the interior roads are a nice width and sites are a nice size too and easily fit 40’+ rigs with tow or towed vehicles. Easy in and easy out. The park is clean and well maintained. The staff are great, friendly & helpful. While there our small parrot escaped our trailer and several fellow campers helped us find and capture him. I wish I knew all their names. Park employees also lent a hand in the capture. We are so very grateful for everyone’s help.

My husband and I, 56 and 59, have been camping for around 28 years and have camped in tents, pop-ups, travel trailers, and 5th wheels. We have camped at many different campgrounds in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Big Meadow Family Campground is our favorite campground of any we’ve been to. It is our “home away from home”. Big Meadow is exactly what it says, a campground on a beautiful meadow. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and beautifully landscaped!! You will see the owners and staff out watering and grooming their landscape often. The bathhouse at Big Meadow is super clean and accessible. There has never been a time when we have not been able to get a steaming hot shower here. We do laundry often as there is a very nice and clean laundry room with 4 washers and dryers and a large folding table. This campground is family owned and operated by Malcolm and Barbara Johnson, their son Greg, two grandsons Matthew and Mason, and Kristina and Brenna in the office. These are by far some of the nicest and friendliest people we have ever met who put their “life” into this campground. There is no other place we would rather spend our vacations, at our “home away from home”!Bob and Judy Seaman

My family and I stayed here 1 time and we had our camper stored here. The campground was good and was clean. The problem was the conflicting information from staff on what to do as far as us trying to follow the rules. Every time I turned around we were doing something wrong. Kind of like we had a target on our backs. I must say there are much nicer ways to talk to your customers. We liked the campground but we didn't like the picking at us. The way we were treated is why we won't be back. After reading other reviews I'm not the only campers that were treated this way by "man on golf cart"

This is one of the most outwardly well maintained campgrounds I've visited in a while. It was absolutely the perfect place to stay. We came to visit Cades Cove and this is very convenient. The campground is meticulously landscaped and flowers abound. Everyone on staff was very nice and accommodating. Pet friendly... we had no issues with our dogs. There are no fire rings, but I think you can rent one (we didn't).I will say staying "by the river" is really across the street, but we did have the view. However, it wasn't worth being in one of those sites because of the traffic coming in and out... quite noisy. I think I would have liked to be in the back... but still an overall relaxing experience.Overall a good experience and we will be back.

They increased the rates after our deposit was made. When someone makes a deposit, not only is that holding their spot, but also locking in the price that was agreed upon. If you change the rates, the old rates should still apply to anyone that has a reservation and has made a deposit. The deposit should indeed be refundable if the original contract changes. I did not agree to the higher rates when making my deposit.

We love this place: it is our "go to" place for visiting the Smokies. We have camped here many times over the years and although we have tried most of the other campgrounds in Townsend, we keep coming back here. Although it may seem a little "tight" between campsites at times, we have always had room to put out our awning and slide room, something you can't say about some of the other parks. One thing we judge a campground for is the electricity strength. We constantly have had good voltage. The owners are always nice and friendly and will help if you need them to. The sites are concrete and level, and long enough for our 30' trailer and our tow vehicle, except for the sites on the river.

We have stayed here many times and currently board my camper here. Rates are great, they are very family friendly and nice to work with. They make camping easy by setting up the camper for us before we arrive including turning on HVAC and the fridge. Definitely worth checking out! The staff know us by name and are always so friendly to everyone.

We love a campground with some rules for courtesy for all campers and Big Meadow makes for a wonderfully positive environment for all to enjoy. Clean bathrooms, level sites, and friendly people. Exceptional customer service... Thanks Christina & Brenna!! We'll be back!

Stayed here as part of a group outing. While the campground is well maintained, it is very tight. Some sights are so tight that your awning is only a couple feet away from the RV next door. Also, if you are on what they call a riverfront site, you are actually on a road that has a surprising amount of traffic including late night. So don't plan on getting much sleep. We asked to be moved and while there were other sites available, they would not move us. Staff is very unhelpful. Cancellation policy is also not very customer friendly. If you cancel at any point after the reservation you will be charged for at least 1 night. I have been traveling by RV for many years and have never come across that before. I will be recommending our group stay elsewhere next year.
