Stopped in today for lunch, we were met with a warm welcome from the owner. He explained what menu options he had available, as they were limited due to the winter season being less busy, but assured us that if we came back in the Spring/Summer he would have more options. There were still ample choices offered even on his reduced menu! I ordered the bologna sandwich, which is typically smoked, but the owner explained he would make it fried in the skillet as he hasn't smoked any due to the slow season, the portion is HUGE. He asked if I'd like him to add seasoning to it, which is nice, most places just do it their own way. This sandwich was delicious, as was the macaroni served with it. My only complaint is that the noodles had become overly soft from sitting in a warmer, but still delicious despite that. The macaroni had a nice homemade cheese sauce similar to a Béchamel sauce, with pockets gooey of cheese throughout the noodles. My husband had the pulled pork, again the meat was a bit dried from sitting in a warmer, but the flavor was smokey and shined through, I would almost say that adding a sauce would be a disservice to the flavor. However, the homemade sauces offered were thick, rich, and flavorful. The hot variation was actually spicy, typically when we order hot, it's got a tiny bit of heat, this sauce had a big kick, but was still full of flavor and complimented the barbecue well. He sells these sauces in nicely packaged jars with clear labeling with varieties of hot, sweet, and regular, pricing was very reasonable. My husband also had the potato salad and hoecakes which were just as delicious as the rest of our food.Even if you are not a fan of barbecue or smoked foods, stop in to have a conversation with the owner. He is worth the trip and will surely brighten your day, it is clear that he is passionate about his business as well as passionate about the people he serves. We will definitely be back to Newt's!

Everything tasted good; there was nothing we didn't finish. The problem is, it wasn't good barbecue. The brisket seemed more of a roast as it came out of what looked like a crock pot and was bathing in liquid, and the pulled pork was the same. It really is good food, but if you come in looking for good smoked barbecue, you won't find it here.

Me and my husband came In to eat the food was nasty horrible . The macaroni tasted like water and it looked so dry the mashed potatoes were instant mashed potatoes you had to put so much salt and pepper in it just for it to taste good the lady wasn’t wearing gloves or a hair net my husbands mashed potatoes were coming off the side of his plate and she threw them back on his plate without gloves on it was way over priced.

AMAZING bbq, very kind owner. If you're exhausted after hiking over at Rock Island, I suggest you stop in afterward for a delicious home cooked meal.The dessert, pecan pie pudding was to die for.

Nice guy. Horrible BBQ. I do not understand all these positive reviews? Are these fake? The interior of the establishment did not inspire confidence. Against my better judgement I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. With all due respect to the owner this is not even passable BBQ. He should try his hand something else. Would not recommend eating here under any circumstance. Proceed at your own risk.

We were headed for the falls and had not seen anything to eat. Saw this place. Nice outdoor seating. Limited parking. Walked in and you could just tell these folks love what they are doing and serving. Hands down…some of the best bbq and sides we have had! The owners were attentive because they wanted us to be satisfied.

We stopped to get some food before heading to the park. It was my husband and our two boys(picky eaters). We all love our food and the conversation with the owner. We had brisket, pull pork, Mac and cheese and salad. They were all yummy licking. Will definitely come back. It was like eating at your grandparents house, the food and convos.

First time there today and will be a going back . The owner was a very nice guy, told about all the sides that all looked delicious and that he makes homemade ! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich it was super tasty and his homemade hot bbq sauce was amazing . Will definitely make it a motorcycle ride destination. Give it a try I don't think you'll be disappointed.

If you’re looking for a hidden gem this is the BEST place to eat in Rock Island Tn!(actually in the entire county)I am local and will be stopping here at least twice a week!I am allergic to red meat so I was hesitant to try a BBQ place, but they had so many options! I got the pulled chicken, green beans, potato cake, and Mac & Cheese and a drink!After all of that I was sad to be full because I definitely wanted more.I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE MORE !Not only was the food amazing, but the staff made sure we felt right at home! Friendly & Informative! Love this place💓

Very kind service. Owner displays an attitude of gratitude and has a gentle spirit that can only come from Christ. The brisket is flavorful & very tender. Don’t skip out on the wilted salad or potato salad…everything tasted great! Had Gunsmoke playing on the TV. Will definitely be back.Kid-friendliness: He didn’t blink an eye at our large family with young children.

Stopped by Newts for lunch. Very low key place but the food was amazing.Basic dishes (brisket, ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, and chili). Sides (beans, mac and cheese, slaw).They also have hot dogs and bbq baloneyThe peach pie was the best I've had in years.Will be going back!

Stopped at Newts today while visiting the falls. Great local, mom and pop BBQ stop. Great food, homemade items including desserts. Excellent hospitality, pet friendly outside dining. Don't pass it up !!
