I took my dog to the Claiborne Animal Shelter to be fixed. That day we were expecting a snow storm and the vet tech informed me that they may close early so they were going to try to get the animals fixed quickly. I gave her my work phone number and told her to just call me when they were finished. They called me not even an hour later and told me that my girl was “too aggressive” that I needed to come pick her up. They said she was nipping at staff, growling and showing teeth. I left work and when I got there, they were too afraid to get her out of the kennel so they took me back there with them and she was so out of it she couldn’t even walk, I had to CARRY my girl out of there! They had already given her medication to sedate her and I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t go ahead and do the procedure.I took her to Rowland’s Veterinary to be fixed a couple weeks later (today as a matter of fact) and told them what happened and that I wanted to know if she was aggressive or not. When I picked her up, they told me she was “an angel”. No aggression whatsoever and her tail was wagging anytime they got close to her. I think that the shelter just wanted to go home early and lied to me. I had to leave work and was concerned my dog was showing traits I was unaware of, but no, my girl is sweet as can be and now she has care from somewhere who actually puts animals first.This picture is from the day we left the animal shelter, she was so drugged up, like I said, she couldn’t even walk out of there. Just please consider another place to take care of your pet, somewhere that actually cares.

They made the adoption of our Pyrenees pup such a smooth transition! She had all her shots, vaccinations and worms AND she was spayed!! Super easy and extremely friendly staff!!

Very nice people and a clean place as well. Just took my sweet cat kiki to be surrendered.. it broke my heart that I couldn't keep her but the ladies working here reassured me that she would fit right in and that she'll be well took care of. I miss her already.Coming here and speaking with the nice ladies made me feel like I made the right decision bringing kiki here.

Wonderful place, doing a great work with dogs and cats. Don't get a puppy/kitten from a puppy mill, adopt a dog/cat that will be a wonderful companion and family member. ❤️

Our one year old puppy needed to be spayed so we called to make an appointment. She is now spayed, has her shots, and is microchipped to keep her safe!! She's been home for 3 days now and is feeling great. Even right after surgery, she was her usual friendly self. I am so very happy with the Claiborne Animal Shelter's friendly and helpful staff, who helped make the appointment and who took such good care of our puppy!!

We took our 4 dogs out to play in the dog park and ended up being there for about 3 hours. The dogs absolutely loved it. We took water just in case but there were water bowls out with fresh water, toys out there for them to play with, shovels there to clean up dog mess, it was really a great day for ALL of us.

I went to take two dogs out there and the head lady virginia caperton was very rude to me and unprofessional in many ways and lied to my face and basically told me even if she took the dogs with how They acted towards another dog(barking at them). That they would euthanize them due to behavior … who does that

So thankful for the shelter. I live close to the highway and get alot of strays that people drop off. The shelter has been great to accept them all and give them the chance for a new home and better life..

They discriminate against people that don't believe all male dogs should be neutered . If you have a male dog already that has not been neutered They refuse to allow you to adopt .Pure Discrimination. Also the dog i was going to adopt was a male puppy that was already neutered . This place Make's no since .

Love visiting this place! They are always so nice and welcoming. They take the time to answer all your questions and you can really tell that they are passionate about helping these animals. It takes a special kind of human to do what they do and I'm personally very thankful to each and everyone of them.

I actually go to the dog park that is right behind here. Wonderful dog park though. Kept very clean, water bowls for the dogs , covered Pic nic table to sit at. Benches throughout the park. Agility things for the dogs to use

3 years ago, After my daughter moved, I was having empty nest syndrome bad! The staff was so friendly and helpful. I adopted a beautiful little kitten, had her fixed thru the service they provide. The process was so easy.

Went there to surrender my two kittens that I no longer can keep anymore and they’re drop box is closed. Early morning is the only time I could bring them. The drop box isn’t open due to COVID-19. It’s very hard to get rid of your pets because of unfortunate events and this animal shelter just made it a lot worse. COVID is no joke, and I completely understand that, but an animal shelter is so crucial to have open 24/7 and I loved that they had a drop box for times when they were not open. Definitely will NEVER come here again because it shows how much they care about the animals that some people just want rid of and will leave a mile down the road. Do better. Long story short, the kittens are back with me where I can guarantee 100% that they will not be in harms way until I can find them a fitting home.

Coming from Lee County where they do not have an animal shelter or affordable spay and neuter clinic it is great to have this option. I am grateful for the work they do and because of it they are very busy! Thank you for all you do 🤗

I cannot tell you how helpful and KIND they have been to me. I have had ongoing problem with frerral cats as our local animal control (previous to new one) loved to destroy!! I usually hate shelters but this one is top notch and their care is reflected in the dogs and cats that are up for adoption! Bravo to these caring people, you make me so happy to see how competent and kind you are in all the services you provide!! Again, thank you,thank you, thank you !!!!

Adopted two kittens from a shelter in Another county moved to new Tazewell about to move again do to work but couldn’t keep the two kittens been trying to reach out to these fools for a couple weeks they are always closed do to Covid. Lazy sobs never pick up the phone! Finally got ahold of them they told me they could take them, wasted gas once I got there ,they turned them down because they was from another shelter. Poor excuse of a place would not recommend anything from them.

They were wonderful how they work with Claiborne County Law Enforcement to be sure we could get a rescued dog safely inside a kennel after hours. Their facility was very clean and nice.

Hello we adopted a Max( husky Shepard mix) from the Wisconsin Humane Society in July 2016. He is such handsome boy. And we love that we could give him a fur ever home. Can't imagine why anyone would have given him up. Thanks for sending him to the north.

Place want even open. I had a litter of puppies and they weren't open. Had to get them someplace so a lady took the whole litter. Animal Shelter didn't even have anything animal wise in their shelter. I don't believe. I was there for about an hour trying to figure something out and never heard a dog one bark. I think they are done. Not for sure tho.

To the staff at Claiborne Animal Shelter.In April of 2014, we adopted a dog from the Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee, WI. The dog was named Ginger and she came from your facility. Just to update you, she is a wonderful companion and family member. Ginger is smart, loving, gentle, obedient and the best friend anyone could have. We can't imagine why anyone would have surrendered her to the shelter. We are enclosing two pictures. One of the day we brought her home and now. Just wanted to let you know how well she is doing and how much she is loved.Mary Osten
