Never has there been a Kroger with less lanes open. You've got lines of people wrapped halfway around the store and still only have one lane and the self checkout open. It's not like this is a one time thing either. It's constant. Hire more people, pay them better so they want to work here. Treat them better so they keep working here. There's no reasonable excuse for such a large store in such a busy area to be so poorly staffed. Pathetic.

Today, I took my mother to the store. After, waiting a while, I went inside. I found her at the checkout having difficulty. The cashier hurried her out of line knowing the price charged was wrong. She sent us over to guest care. We were told at 3 pm that they were closed by management and to get in line for a refund. Which we did. After reaching the cashier, then we were told to go back to guest services. They had overcharged her by five dollars and the service was unacceptable for future shopping at the store on Union.

I HATE the overly congested parking lot, especially around 5-7 pm. It's too tight and hard to maneuver. Then it's on Union Ave. one of THE BUSIEST streets in Memphis! In addition, I have been having a few pricing issues when I go check out. One time the Lactaid milk (96 fl oz) or 3qt had $6.49 as the price but when I went to check out, it was $6.99. I was there at 6:30 in the morning but their customer service wasn't even open until 8 am which I thought was just dumb when customers are coming in as soon as it opens up at 6 am.šŸ¤·šŸæā€ā™€ļøSo, I was told to come back when it opens to get refunded the difference. But who's gonna go home for an hour and 30 minutes just to come back up there toting around those heavy milk jugs (I bought 2) to be refunded maybe a dollar? Not me. I just left it alone but was irritated by the experience. Then I just left there tonight and was charged $7.99 for those Perdue Chicken Breast Patties when they clearly had $6.99 as the sale price. So, I just went back to the aisle to take a picture of the price and showed it to the associate at self-checkout ('cos I wasn't gonna wait for a price check from one of the associates since they never come in a timely fashion) and he changed the price immediately.Overall, I only stop here if I'm in the area as I live close to Midtown and when it's not very busy. It's..... okay. Meh.

Today at 4pm the entire cashier service was laid off or just failed to do their job. I was forced to leave after filling an entire cart because the cashiers were only utilizing the ā€œself checkoutā€, leading to mile long lines on each side of the store…When I asked the two ladies directing the line on one side to get a manager and let him know of the case, she said she couldn’t because that’s another department… great common sense. It is another department, thankfully one that has authority over you.Took my business to The Fresh Market happily

I always have the worst experience here. The checkout lines are ridiculous. You can barely get in and out of the store because people are huddled around the lanes, and there are no actual employees helping customers check out. How are elderly or disabled people supposed to shop in this sort of business structure? Management is reflected in employees' attitudes because they are typically rude and unhelpful. This Kroger needs a complete overhaul.

People weren’t joking about the self checkout chaos!Parking wasn’t bad for a central city grocery and they had a great selection and quality of stuff, other than terrible steaks. But HOLY COW only self check out at peak hours! Long lines of frustrated people crowded into a tight self check only designed for a few items, not FULL carts.Mentioned something to the guy coming to correct my blinking light and he just said, ā€œtell corporate. They think this is how they get their money.ā€I’ll be going to Fresh market down the street from now on.

Pathetic. All the money Kroger spent to acquire this store, between buying the property and demolishing multiple buildings, including a high rise apartment building. All to put incompetent managers in place. First teach your store manager to tell time, then have more than one register accepting cash.

Kroger has always been my bread and butter, a staple. I just moved to the Memphis area and visited this location of Kroger. Honestly, I didn’t like it. It doesn’t have the same. It has all the sections with decent stuff, but overall it’s clumsy, not organised. The fresh produce, bakery, meat, and fish section everything is there. The deli section has different counters offering salad bar, sushi, fried chicken, etc. I tried chicken wings and they were just mediocre. It was a weekday and the Kroger was simply at its peak hour. The staff was not very helpful. Maybe they need a good orientation. Little disappointed, but still I will go back for groceries.

They have self service and 2 reg lanes open 2:00 pm it's packed in here.At night ... it's ONLY self service and the line goes through the produce section whilethe employees act like it's normal. The manager is somewhere hiding. It's worth it to drive to the Highland one.

I have never dealt with such abrasive disrespectful employees as I have at this Kroger and I’m a very forgiving person. I can’t say this has to do with every employee, but it has to do with the people at the front lines when you’re trying to get in and get out. They had the entrance blocked maybe because it was late night, but trying to get into the exit was total chaos. The self check out was too close to the door too many people trying to come in and out at the same time and it was anarchy. The person running the self checkout lines was rude as I have ever experienced. And she would disappear walk off 30 yards to some other area and then come back and there were all these people that needed help. I’ve shopped at a lot of Krogerā€˜s and I have never had this terrible experience ever.

Only due to convenience of location. Parking and security has always been an issue for me- especially the back lot- no security visible. But, another concern on last night about 7pm when I saw a dog on a leash running around with it's owner from aisle to aisle. This was not a support dog or was not vested as such. As the owner talked on his cell phone going from aisle to aisle, and no employee re-directed this man out of the store was disturbing to me. I love dogs and had several but they do not belong where I get my food or eat. Are there health department violations here?

I guess they don't have a supervisor or manager to check the check-in time, because they have been opening late for 30 minutes and it's not the first time.

Ridiculous checkout experience. No cashiers available @ 9:00 AM Friday 12/15/23, only self scan lanes open. Several staff &manager standing at lane ends, visiting with shoppers. Multiple lane lines blinking, mine included after scanning 3/4 of the items in my cart. First male employee ā€˜fixed’ the problem, I begin scanning again and light comes back on blinking. Unable to scan more items. Instructed by female employee to pack items at end of lane to continue checkout process, while another male employee watches. Attempted to scan additional items, produce needing to be weighed, light begins blinking for 3rd time. (Many customers waiting in line for the ā€œprivilegeā€! to check their groceries through this Midtown Memphis Kroger process). Now 2 employees tell me that the items I already scanned have not registered on this computer and I am stuck with bagged unregistered items after 45+!minutes of checking out and being ā€˜helped’ by 3 staff and a manager. Waste of time. Do NOT recommend this store.

Krogers commercials talk about their freshness in vegetables, come to the Midtown and Whitehaven Krogers. Too much, too often old, on the verge of rotten brown lettuce, super soft tomatoes, soggy green beans. They are often out of potatoes, cucumbers, etc.

Worst Kroger location by far! Rude staff! Self check out only lines with no signs or direction on how lines work. Terrible, horrible experience. I will vote with my dollar somewhere else.

Horrible simply horrible. The self checkout line is ridiculous. They have 2 separate sections. They want you to stand in a line for just one to go to the other one. They need to let people stand where they want to stand. This isn't the military. I hate this Kroger. Too small and they make simple things like checking out complicated.

I just moved to living near downtown and I would come here to get my groceries but is too crowded around 11am to evening. You have to go there real early if you don’t want to deal with all the congestion in the store and the parking lot too. They don’t even have enough cashiers so you are always standing in a long line for self checking out.I resorted to using their pick up service which also is not the best. I say to not substitute items and they still do it anyways or give you stuff you didnt even order at all. So I have to wait until customer service steps back outside to tell her I don’t want this. I will say the lady who brings them out to you is really nice but I don’t know who picks the groceries out, they do not read the comments at all added to your order. This has happened more than once. So I will more than likely go a bit further out to another kroger than isn’t as bad if I can get better service and less wait times in store.

Range of goods is OK, BUT nowhere near enough registers open, the lines were out of sight. If Kroger were organised they could make a fortune.

Every time I come to the store there are only self checkout lanes available. The lines go to the back of the store and the wait is more than 30 minutes long. Self checkout is not for purchase some transactions are to large for the small checkout registers. I’m not sure if I will return to this Kroger any more.

That parking lot is the worse. I went on Sunday morning and had to work for my food (self checkout only)and then pay for it. Other than that I love Kroger 😁

The store closed 15 minutes early today, Wed November 22nd. Security wouldn’t allow myself and 2 other potential customers in. I only had 3 items to get. The other gentleman stated they only needed 1 item each. They asked security to get the manager and security did not get manager nor allow us entry. This is not a good business practice. When you don’t allow customers in, you are saying you don’t want our money.

New security or management stops letting people in at 10:45p. They are supposed to be open until 11p. Literally told them I just need to grab a bag of dog food. They said "these people have kids and stuff and they wanna go home." Well, we have kids and stuff, too! Can literally grab what we need and be out within 5 mins! Midtown is no different than any raggedy part of town now! Smh

Total dump. Half the self-checkout kiosks open at most. Even less normal checkout lanes. Can’t even access the aisles in the front of the store because every checkout line stretches halfway through the store. Just sit and home and think about the groceries you need—you’ll accomplish just as much.

Witnessed two black female cashiers being discriminatory towards a Muslim couple who were just trying to buy bulk water bottles -Katundra was the bystander cashier laughing at the misfortune that the man said ā€œyou didn’t ask me for my Kroger rewards numberā€ and instead of being helpful the actual cashier was stubborn and unhelpful talking back that she did and that it was too late. I would have told her to cancel my order and restart because that is an option instead of ridiculizing the man who is a customer and you are supposed to provide customer service for- it was kind of disgraceful on the cashiers being unwilling to do anything even if it’s part of their job to assist

The customer service in this store is pathetic. The shelves are poorly stocked. Corporate obviously never visits this store. The employees at the checkout are always rude and have an attitude.

The self checkout situation is just frustrating. If I'm going to be directed when I'm checking out, at least pay me minimum wage for doing the work and being complained at by staff.Edit: they'll have 3 extra workers standing around self checkout rather than open 3 lanes or help bag on lanes.

Kroger is always very clean. The wipes to clean the grocery carts are near the front entrance. The produce and meat are fresh. I love the deli department. I wish they would have more check out lines open. Sometimes I have too many groceries for self checkout. I see they have added more security measures near the front entrance lobby .
