What a great place!! We found Dixie (aka Rosie) here on a Friday...the staff helped us out tremendously and would recommend that you adopt and don't shop because this is a hidden gem!

Great staff who really care about the animals! Also a great selection of animals. They take great care of the animals and make sure they're up to date on everything and ready for a loving home.

The staff is very kind. We have gotten two of our dogs there. Wish we could've gotten a third but maybe at some point. We love it there!

Very friendly staff and easy to work with who help answer questions about your future pets! We have adopted twice from them now and have been very happy with our fur babies! You can tell they treat the animals with love and care. Here's our most recent adoption! Love him!

This year I lost my dog jojen, it was the hardest thing that I have gone through. I was told to spend time with other dogs to help with the grief and to start looking for another animal friend, I found a dog on their website that I knew I had to come visit. He was shy and scared at the time but I can imagine being in an unfamiliar place like that would make me anxious as well so I continued to visit him. The women at the shelter were amazing, empathetic and knowledgeable and helped me get to know the dog better. The people that work there are all so genuine and sweet and emanate strength and kindness. You can feel this when you come in the front doors, and these people helped me find my next rescue and he has warmed up and is playing, going on walks and has really made huge progress! Grief is love with nowhere to go and with the help of union county humane society I have a new friend to forge a new bond with, it takes work but I believe that is why we exist, to help and heal animal beings, including our own species, the people at union county humane society are doing just that, helpers and healers. Thank you.An important sidenote: I should have written this a long time ago, when I got puck from union he was absolutely terrified to get his nails trimmed. I took him back to union county to get his nails trimmed there since I figured someone must've been able to do them and he was terrified of everyone else...well upon meeting the groomer that comes in to Union county, she hit puck on the nose with the clippers and also was not handling puck like my usual groomer. Upon puck seeing a bet and speaking with them, they said that what she did was exactly why he was terrified of the nail trims so much. I would never recommend using that lady for your dogs needs. I don't blame union county but I personally blame that woman and I hope you read this. Your way of handling animals is outdated and damaging. You should know this and if you think this is just my opinion and.i have no understanding of what I'm speaking about then just know three vets, a behaviorist at it and my groomer friends all agree. I still recommend union county but I would stay the hell away from their groomer.

Applied to volunteer twice—no call back.Update 2/6:Got a call back. The disconnect was coming from the city of Maynardville who are excited about Animal Control. That’s not something I’m excited about as an animal lover and this one over run shelter. Maynardville has definitely got to step up and do better. Killing these tortured animals is no more humane than them telling Maynardville residents they can’t call union county humane society like I was told by the police who cited me for my dog getting out. I am faced with a $137 ticket for my 5 pound dog at large. Only one officer even offered to help me. Thank you officer Carr. There’s something sExtremely fishy going on with how Maynardville police handles things vs Union County. Maynardville needs to stop being dirty and put that money towards building a human society, not invest it in killing already battered animals. It’s disgusting.Thank you all for helping me during our snow storm and I look forward to volunteering when I am better able!

They do great work here. Please don’t buy animals from breeders. There’s dozens of amazing animals here that need homes.

People here are so nice and caring. I will drive from another county to donate items here instead of to Young Williams in Knoxville

We went to get a companion for our 13yr old terrier and me of course. I could not have picked a better dog!! The UCHS cares so much for the animals there and try hard to match the right family with right pet. Ralph is the larger dog in picture but little Ricky is still alpha dog at least for now. Thanks so much!!!

I've been to and seen many Humane Society locations around the country. This one is by far the best I have ever visited (and adopted from)! The animals are in great hands, the facilities look really well maintained, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Highly recommended if you're in search of a new family member!

The staff really cares for the homeless dogs and cats. They even give them toys every afternoon before they close for the day and play soothing music in the kennel. The facility is clean and roomy. We've adopted several dogs and cats there.

Fantastic people work here. Had a lost dog show up at my inlaws house. I was able to drive the pup here and they helped locate the owner. What an amazing experience and resource to the community. From the kennels to the cat patio/shelter everything is kept incredibly clean and well maintained. When the time comes to extend my family with another 4 legged friend, this is my go to place.I wish I could give them more stars. The people keeping this place running clearly care about animals!

I’m giving a 2 star because the woman that does job applications is very sweet, on the other hand the lady on the computer (dk her name) she was rude. I came in to give my job application in and the lady at the desk says “do you know what all we do here” I answered no because on the application it didn’t give a list of options you can choose for your position so I filled in “Any” bc I’m willing to work any position I don’t have a problem with it. The lady that does the applications gave me a paper with the positions they have and told me to come back once I’ve looked over them and I said okay I’ll be back. The woman sitting at the desk looks at me and says “you know this isn’t a job where you play with puppies right?”. I’m 18 Ig she was looking as if I was a child wanting to play with cats and dogs for a living and get paid for it. Nobody will go to a job like this thinking it’s all fun and cuddles with an animal period. You do not look at somebody and say that. She’s EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional when it comes to speaking to somebody that’s wanting a job. I would recommend this place for adoption but on the other hand, a job? Absolutely not. I will not be back.

If I could give this shelter 100 stars or more, I would! It is a wonderful place. The facility is so nice and clean. The animals are very well cared for. The staff is kind, loving and very knowledgeable. It is more than apparent that they really care about the animals. We just adopted our forever furbaby and couldn't be happier. If you are considering getting or adding a furbaby to your home, this is the place to go!

The staff are very polite and friendly and helpful. The facilities are clean well maintained for the animals. Cats are kept jn a separate building from dogs to minimize stress. The cat facility is amazing with free movement within and fantastic cat trees for the cats to climb and sleep in and in. It seems to be very well run and the staff all genuinely care about the animals for which they care. I drove 4 hours to adopt a dog from them and it was the smoothest process I've ever experienced. My dog is exactly how they described him and I am very happy with the entire experience

They were most helpful with vetting three feral cats that lived on my property when I moved into a new residence. I caught the cats in live traps and took them to UCHS - they assured they were all fixed and gave them their shots. Recommended proper flea, tick and intestinal parasites prevention to purchase from Chewy! Great folks, doing great work. I was pleasantly surprised at how kind and caring they were!

It was clean and orderly. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They answered any questions that we had. The staff was able to assist us with the dog we chose. They answered any and all questions about Nora, the Labrador, we chose. The staff gave us extra days to pick Nora up since we had to get a bigger fence put up. They cared about the dog and her safety.

One of my favorite places to go. Absolutely love the cat cottage. Very clean shelter. Tammy does a wonderful job. Everyone there is friendly and helpful. Take my babies to be spayed and neutered and receive their shots there as well. I try to get there for visits as much as I can. Stop by a pay a visit, you won't be disappointed.

I had been searching the area and local websites for months to find the perfect dog for me and I finally him. He was at this humane society and I called right at 10 am as they opened and made an appointment to meet him. My appointment was at 2 and I got there at about 1:35. The lady that answered the door asked me what I was there for and I said “to meet buster” she said “oh I’m sorry he’s being adopted, someone must have double booked.” I stood there a little shocked but not too much because I understand. But also, she should have called me ASAP and told me that there were other applications and he was being adopted so you don’t have to come here. I live an hour away. i will say, she let me come inside anyways and meet some dogs she thought would be a good fit for me. I eventually found my baby girl at a shelter down the road ❤️ So all in all, a good humane society. Well kept and clean. I wish there was better communication considering I live far away and I had mentioned that during our phone call.

Union County (TN) Humane Society has a beautiful facility and a ready supply of caring volunteers. I could live comfortably in their cat house! They were helpful in finding a good fit for a second dog for me and my existing dog. I highly recommend them if you want to adopt a dog or cat.

We came to see our adopted dog. Unfortunately couldn't bring him home till he is neutered next week. The facility is clean, and the animals are cared for very well. Staff are very nice especially Janet who helped us with our new adoption and was especially knowledgeable.

Took both cat boys for shots and be fixed. Called to setup an appointment during “stay at home “ due to the pandemic. Kay was happy to help giving all information and guidelines. Dropped them off early morning as Tammy met us outside with carriers because I didn’t have any. Picked them up later that day. I’ve used several local vets including Knoxville area but this experience was the BEST by far. Kind, caring and professional! Cats are doing great and healthy as ever thanks to all of at Union County Human Society! Keep up the great work as our county needs you. Thank you for all you do!

The dedicated and compassionate staff here do wonderful work in saving the lives of dogs and cats. Facilities are great and perfectly maintained. They include fenced areas where you can interact with a dog off leash. My family has adopted 3 fur babies here over the years. It really is an outstanding shelter in every way.
