I felt transported back in time! The family room seating with the hostess was such an enjoyable experience. The food was amazing! But hearing about the history and engaging with other folks seated with us is something you don't get anywhere now days. We were a party of 4, 3 lovely ladies that came together and one lady on her own that by the end of the meal we all were chatting together enjoying everyone's company. People truly come together over good food and fun history! I highly recommend the experience.

What can I say! I'm flabergasted by this experience. It is all I wanted to try in the South but was not able to find. You MUST dine here when in Lynchburg. The food is all southern home made, Mrs Janice was so nice and told us a bunch of great stories about the days. The gift store has themed gifts and the house is beautiful.Dietary restrictions: Might be hard to have a special meal since we don't choose the menu and we all eat the same.

Very neat place with interesting history. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. There were several people there for the 12:45 lunch. There were a few dining rooms so everyone was accommodated. Our table was round with a large 'lazy susan' in the middle, so the family style servings could be easily accessed by everyone by simply spinning the wheel. I was part of a party of 4, there was another party of 3 and a one other individual. The different groups did not know each other. Our hostess introduced herself then got everyone to do the same. That quickly turned into conversation which was nice.Mrs Mary Bobo served turkey with stuffing and giblet gravy, ham, Mac n cheese, green beans, fried okra, dinner rolls, cranberries, sweet potatoes with chocolate fudge pie topped with Jack Daniels infused whipped cream. Sweet tea was served although water was an option. The sweet tea was fantastic. The food was good. I'm not a big fan of turkey but I did eat the ham. I was hoping for some southern fried chicken or something more representative of Tennessee... at least More so than sliced spiral ham or turkey. The sides were all good but the fried okra was the best of all in my opinion. The pie rocked as well. This was a nice lunch and I was able to meet and break bread with some really nice people. We were in Nashville visiting family and decided to try this place since we were in Lynchburg to visit the Jack Daniels distillery.

I would say if you want an interesting experience I highly recommend this place. But I wouldn’t pick this place if your looking to talk to each other. There is a host who sits with you the whole meal and even eats with you which is quaint but also a little odd. I liked hearing the history and how it tied back to Jack Daniel’s but didn’t need a history break down by room. The food was fine, if you have picky eaters in your group I would find another restaurant because what they are serving is what you get. The chicken I had was pretty over cooked. The meatloaf was fantastic. But for every great dish there was one that was just ok. I’m not saying avoid this place it has a lot of charm. Just know what your getting yourself into.

It was a unique and cute experience, but not something I’d go back to. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything amazing either. They have a set family dinner style menu that changes each day. You sit with different groups and a host tells you about the history of the house and town. It’s definitely a unique experience but I felt it was majorly hyped up for $30 per person.

THE GOOD: : Fired chicken is always great here! Plenty of parking and nice staff.THE BAD :We live the next town over from Lynchburg and have dined here several times. This occasion we were seated with a group of strangers at a round table, We did not feel comfortable eating and sharing casserole dishes with people we did not know, so we asked to move to another table if possible. The host was not thrilled with our request but offered for us to sit in another room but we would NOT have the proper plated meal and our meal would be given to us in a to-go container. We agreed and ate the meal in the plastic containers, in a dark basement room yet we still paid the same price. Our Server was the kindest young man who said that this situation happens ALL THE TIME. That many people don't know and don't want to sit with complete strangers. We wanted to be able to speak freely at the dinner table and not have to talk over another family or share our private conversations with them. The host DID let us know that we must have dined previously when they had Covid restrictions because they have had community dinning ever since those lifted. (Our other dining experiences were always at our own private table)Bottom line is that the food IS good, The staff are young adults in the community earning scholarships for college and do a great job ----but YOU NEED TO BE AWARE that you will be eating at the same table with strangers and sharing casserole dishes and serving utensils with them as well. If you don't mind that, then you will love Miss Mary Bobos.*Your confirmation email DOES say this, but I didn't read it as every time I dined here in the past I was always seated at a private dinner table with only my family.

Such a warm place with wonderful food and a rich atmosphere. Our table host...yes we had a local host our table..was wonderful. She spoke to us about the food we were eating, thr history of the house and so much more. I couldn't stop eating the fried chicken. The sweet tea was awesome...The Jack Apples were incredible. Pretty sure our table finished almost everything. Male reservations if you are a larger group. Go...absolutely go and enjoy!

I visited this place after Jack Daniel's tour by myself.Such a nice place to experience traditional southern hospitality, Host and other guests also welcomed me so it wasn't awkward at all though it was solo visit.Food was also great, and it was also very interesting that the host told the history of the place and Jack Daniel's to the guests.Parking: They have some parking spots in the premise and street parking is also available

A fun place to eat. Our Hostess was a School Teacher. She told us the History of the Boarding House. Met a fun couple from Poland and a nice Family from Lynchburg. The food was so delicious. Well worth the price. I hope we can go back one day

What a delicious southern cooked family style restaurant. Rich history and flavor. You have to get reservations in advance as this restaurant is a popular staple in the area. Learning about Ms. Mary Bobo and the surrounding history is really interesting. As a Motlow Community College alumni, learning about the Motlow name and the direct ties to Jack Daniels was neat. They actually have Motlow students working in the restaurant to help them pay for books and fees. Please note that when you reserve and pay for dinner there is no option to tip with your card, so bring cash to tip your waitress. We felt terrible that we didn't have cash. Come with an appetite because the food is soooo delicious 😋 that you can't stop eating and you will pay for it later lol 😉.

Had early lunch (11 am) on a Friday in November. We were seated with 8 others at a round table with a giant lazy Susan. You don’t get any choices, you get all of it . The food is all you can eat family style meaning you get refills as the food is eaten. Water, tea or coffee to drink. No other choices for beverage. Someone from the restaurant sits with you and hosts the meal. It isn’t awkward at all even being seated with strangers, the host made it a fun experience. They tell about the home and Mary Boba. Would come again, even if the menu is the same. Left so very satisfied, couldn’t even eat my dessert.

OMGosh!! Gorgeous place, lovely gift shop, interesting stories and facts about the history of the place and about Jack Daniels told by our guide, and some of the best traditional southern food I’ve ever had! Everything we ate was fabulous! The Mac and cheese was to die for!!! (I usually don’t get this excited about Mac n cheese but wow!) The turkey and dressing were superb, the fried okra was so yummy, it had a slight kick to it which made it just right, and the chess pie was so good it might make you slap your granny! Haha! This place is definitely a 10/10 and I highly recommend it to everyone!! 💗

Miss Mary Bobo's is a sit-down, family style type meal. The food is absolutely amazing and while you're eating you are able to get the history of the area and the house and how it became to be in it's current status with the distillery. The host and hostess staff there are amazing and treat everyone like family. There's so much food that if you leave hungry, it's your own fault!!

Amazing food, incredible atmosphere, friendly people, and a whole lot of history. We went to a super secret club, if you will, that isn't super secret, but held in a bit of confidence amongst it's members. Wow sounds so 007ish. The folks there highly recommend Miss Mary Bobo's, a member code named Goose, even called via a super secret phone number to back door the reservation process. We decided to walk to Miss Mary Bobo's, where we arrived at a very old house with many people waiting to be called to their dining room. We checked in and we're called back immediately to our dining room. As we entered there was a table set with fine antique china, some food and cups of southern sweet tea.We sat down and the other guests sat down as well. As the dining room filled with 10 people, one was the hostess. 4 we're whiskey runners with the same club affiliation as my wife and I. The others were Canadian transplants to Arizona on vacation. As dinner started, lunch for the rest of us. Here in Tennessee dinner is lunch, the meal eaten at noon, while supper is the meal eaten at night after work. The hostess talked about the history of the house we were in, the town, the distillery, and the town's military affiliation with training for WWII. It was incredible, 10 complete strangers erupted into intense conversation. Before we knew it over an hour had passed, we had all eaten several helpings big amazing home cooked food, much what had, " The product," as our hostess described it. Dessert and coffee still to come. In the end we left incredibly satisfied and somewhat feeling as if we had made new friends and were part of a unique family. The amazing food was potatoes, spices apples, or should I say spiked apples, fried okra, dinner rolls, meatloaf, and fried chicken. Desert was a fudge pie and coffee. The whipped cream on the pie also had, "The Product," in it.Overall the price we paid was nothing when compared to the experience, the food, and the feeling we got while we were there.I highly recommend the experience of Miss Mary Bobo's. Should we go back, you better believe we will be dining here again.

We went with the Jack Daniel's tour so lunch was included in the packageThe day we were there it was meat loaf, fried chicken, hash brown casserole, cream corn, baked beans, etc.The sweet tea is a southern staple so be sure to request a glass!

Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House Restaurant was advertised as a place having served up tradition, Southern hospitality, and good home cooking, since 1908. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They offer down home southern cooking. You can choose both meats and all the sides if you would like, or dine family style. The food just keeps coming, but trust me when I say one serving is more than enough. The cabbage casserole was heavenly. The white beans were great. The Lynchburg Candied Apples OMG! Fried chicken was beyond perfect. If there is better southern cuisine available anywhere, well that's a place that I will have to dine. When you make the pilgrimage to visit your old friend Jack in Lynchburg, Tennessee, which I'm sure you will do. Be sure to visit Miss Mary. Reservation are advised, but they graciously seated this New York guest in the Motlow room. Don't be surprised when you run into someone famous. Loved everything about this establishment. Here's a little secret, ask to see the limestone well.

Fantastic ambience and even better food. Had the full serving of Southern Hospitality and great great food.Ms Venita was an absolute delight to talk to (thank you Ma'am you were so amazing). If you're going to Lynchburg for the JD tour make it a point to have a meal here. You'll remember it for the rest of your life.Protip: reserve your place. They don't take walk ins. And it'd a month wait. For a Dec 29 seating we booked our seats on Nov 25.
