The staff at the Francis Halbrook Hensley Animal Shelter are dedicated individuals when it comes to aiding the animals and people of Lexington and Henderson County among other areas. They work hard and diligently to provide services for those in need by means of providing food, shelter, and information of rescues that can intake animals. They go above and beyond for the animals in their care to find the best homes and to have a place to live out the rest of their lives with love and care. When they can't intake animals they still work tirelessly to make space or find the means to help with the placement of animals in need. This shelter is full of amazing people with big hearts full of love and respect for the care and safety of the animals in their care.

This is a very special place for not only the animals that are here awaiting their future pet parents, but for the people who work here. The kindness and dedication that the employees show to the animals here is very apparent, and refreshing to see in an environment that would otherwise be dreary if not for the love and attention they offer. The workers know the animals and spend time with them as individuals and share their experiences with you when you view them. You can tell it is a place that they enjoy. The facility is very clean and the dogs seem content. You can walk through the corridor and carry a conversation easily. Save a pet here and in return you will gain a friend you never knew you had.

Helped me out with food after 12 kittens were dropped off by my house. Very friendly staff and so generous for giving these kittens something to eat. Thank y'all so very much

I got my cat here just recently! The people are so nice and helpful, and it was the fastest process ever. My cat- although we've only had him for a week or so now, is a darling and the best thing ever. He acts as if he was treated very well. Pets are waiting for homes there right now ♥️ if you're having second thoughts, it won't hurt to give this shelter a try! Maybe you'll fall in love.

We have had Vallie Girl for three and a half years, and I honestly can't remember a day she wasn't in my home and my heart. My husband would be lost, and I would be heartbroken if anything ever happened to her. Thank you for bringing my fur baby to her furever home.

Brandy and all of the volunteers are so enthusiastic about finding furever homes for the abandoned and stray cats and dogs in the area. This is a great place to adopt your next family member. Best shelter ever! EVER!

My best friend adopted a sweet lil boy, his name is Dash & the ppl @ this shelter r wonderful! They were so hospitable & great w/ the babies, let us spend all the time we wanted w/ Dash look @ this baby! My daughter and wife come in chose the cat she wanted, filled out paperwork for adoption and the next day she (my daughter) calls to check on her paperwork and it was still under review.The next day she calls back to check on paperwork and is told the lady who runs the place took ownership of the cat we picked out and took it home........My daughter was told her paperwork was approved and she could choose a different cat....Is this a normal practice?How do believe this is professional behavior?Personal note to the lady, In the future if you plan on stealing an animal why dont you remove it immediately instead of allowing young ladies like my daughter to come in and start the adoption process and get their heart set on an animal and also go to the extent of buying multiple things for the animal etc only to be heart broken over the poor actions that you made. You should be ashamed of yourself.Dont contact my daughter (not that you would) we will find a cat somewhere else that has more quality leadership running the place.And we will not support this establishment in the future.Update:::::::Here is a rebuttal to the reply below for the owner. The info you state about the allegies with my daughter did not happen like you say.Reason I say this is you or your employee tried to get my daughter to adopt "Diva" the other cat that was extremely overweight that we graciously declined.Im not going to go back and forth with you about this situation. A simple call from you with an apology and explanation to my daughter would have been sufficient in the first place. Admitting the wrong upfront would have been more professional and this review would not have happened.I read the previous reviews on your business and was really impressed. I find it hard to believe you did what you did.Do you still have the cat?

I went here to adopt a dog and was not allowed to because I didn't have a "reliable" record with a veterinarian. I donate money to them but I can't have a pet although they are begging people to take them. At least they love their animals.

They call themselves an animal shelter, but they pick and choose what comes in. I know this, because 2 of my pups were not cute enough to be there, and other people have told me the same thing. Might as well turn it to a pet shop not an Animal Shelter.

We just adopted chi chi today. From the Frances Hallbrook animal shelter here in Lexington. They were helpful and friendly. Chi chi is very sweet and gentle.

They were at capacity doing their best for all their animals. The place was clean cheerful and the animals were healthy or getting there since their rescue .

They helped me and took in an abandoned mommy dog and her puppies when it was freezing and snowing ..If I wasn't a truck driver id probably kept them but had to go and I didn't want to leave them alone and come back home next week to find they couldn't handle it..They where great helping me out and finding homes for them ..They didn't have room and made an exception for them under the circumstances .. Thanks so much

Good for nothing. All they can do is suggest a local rescue, and then you'll probably never hear back from the rescue.

Well you get to help the dogs out and meet the people that take care of the dogs some walk them and clean there stall out and I get to give them there snacks went I am there but I enjoyed looking at the new dogs that come in but there some dogs that never get adopted and it is sad too
