The Sutton Homestead is decorated for the 1960's. The storytelling guides makes the house come to life with stories of the 1960's, nationally and locally. The house decor and the stories change about three times per year. Highly recommend this guided tour.

Granville is a tiny, slow paced town that offers a step back in time and the $5 tour is worth the time if you are passing through the area. Our volunteer guides on this day were Ann (for the house) and her husband David, who toured us through the grounds behind the home. Some unique items displayed in the home were: their first TV, original furniture, a Classy chicken hatchery designed to look good in your kitchen (who would have thought?), a real icebox, and an office with an antique adding machine, phone, and typewriter. The home included a sewing room with some beautiful old Singer sewing machines. The grounds showed typical crops for the area in a small backyard garden, spinning equipment, wagons, blacksmith stations, basket weaving, an old cabin similar to those I see in the Smoky Mountains, and a working grist mill. On Saturdays and during festivals, there are often volunteers demonstrating the blacksmithing, basket weaving, and gristmill. Finally, we went through a garage with about 6 cars including a Model T, Model A, a Chevy truck, and a Belair. All of the vehicles were restored and in great condition, making it a tiny antique car museum. The garage also contained an abundance of older bicycles, toy displays, wagons and tricycles that are sure to bring back memories of a simpler time. Being in their 70s and 80s, (as they shared with us) our guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and able to truly speak to the way of life the Sutton family lived with many analogies to their own lives and to Mayberry for those who are fans!
