I had met the most wonderful dog ever. He's full of energy he's goofy very loving. His name is Mr Pickles is what I gave him. He's very young and has a lot to learn he's going to be my best friend I'm going to be teaching him how to kayak he's going to love camping I'm glad I met my best friend and I give thanks to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter for their kind loving hearts in my most upright respect for you all thank you for being there guardian angels and thank you for Mr Pickles you all may know him by clock thank you for my best friend

I called to ask for help with my large dog that is literally laying in my kitchen dying. He is too big for me to get him in the car to take him and have him euthanized and while I understand they can’t help me, whoever was on the other end of the phone snobbishly said, as I was sobbing, “okay have a good day”… not I’m so sorry, nothing. No suggestion, just “Have a good day”. People who don’t care should not be working at these places.

This is our local shelter and we could not rave enough about the caring staff there. These are photo's of our children helping out by walking dogs and cuddling/socializing cats. If you are local, please go help out! The walking trail behind the shelter is lovely so you get fresh air and exercise while doggies get a break from their kennel to get exercise too.

This place is ahit the lday at the front not going to say names but just hires people without loking at the applications then fires them after they been working and the "owner" has no clue how to run anything

It's pretty bad when you call to ask for help cause there is a severely injured cat stuck under porch that is deaf and has been run over & can't walk no way to reach it, ask if someone could please come with a catcher pole to pull her out and am told no they don't work for on call demands and they only catch dogs. I mean WOW!!! Absolutely appalling behavior from a place that's supposed to help animals.

Where to start, lol. My wife scheduled to drop off two dogs we are trying to help get re-homed, coordinated with the shelter for about two weeks, and when we went at the scheduled time the lady at the counter called her a liar and said the she “TOLD THAT WOMAN ON THE PHONE YESTERDAY” (yes, she did in fact raise her voice quite a bit) that “the shelter is full”. I was beyond shocked, did not expect that attack at all. We wasted over two hours of time, I took off work early to help, we picked up food, harness, leashes etc, only to be called liars and be asked to leave. I mean… I’m one of the easiest going people ever, but that was a wild and horrible experience. I’m still kind of in shock. Hopefully they treat the next couple better 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's a small shelter but the staff is really invested in all the animals. You get detailed information of the pet you adopt. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure every animal goes to a good home. If you want to help out or donate to a local shelter, consider sending your donations to this shelter. I can't say enough how great the staff is at this shelter!

This shelter has a huge heart for animals and does the very best with what they’re given to work with ❤️ The staff is like family and each animal is treated as if it’s the family’s personal pet. Please help support this shelter in any way you can, and please spay and neuter your pets!

I love going there the most kindest people work there. If you ever have a chance nothing to do feel sad and need a friend go there spend some time with one of these animals that are allowed to be walked I promise you when you drive away or walk away you feel 100% better. Plus you can make a friend. I love going there suspend some time with the new friend.

Why isnt anything done about the numerous complaints about the guy in Unicoi on Upper Stone Mt Rd?? that has a dog on the short lease, and he cant fit in the dam doghouse!!! and now there is a 3 week old puppy there in the yard!! these animals are left in the rain, and now its turning cold!! There been lots of complaints!!!! This person doesnt need any animal!. Go see !!

They are amazing! I adopted a senior cat from here. We love her. She is microchipped and had her vaccines also came with paper work for a free rabbies shot. I highly recommend them.

We were looking for an adult female cat, we were not sure if Catherine would get along with our 3 small dogs. We brought her home on a trial bases recommended by the Shelter, she fit right in with with the pack and she's Queen of the Palace. Thanks everyone, you were all great!!!

Okay so this is a really sad story but I ended up getting a dog that was fixing to be shot for no apparent reason other than the person didn't want the dog no more I have a dog already but I took her because I couldn't let her get shots it was an option for her to get killed because that was just a bunch of bull anyhow you know can't take care of her I already have one so I took her to the shelter and everyone there is so sweet like I was glad that I was taking her here to this shelter so anyone that needs to know anything about the shelter is that they are a no-kill shelter which is very good because I worry about things like that and everyone there is very sweet so my opinion if you want to adopt a dog or anything you can go to this shelter because with just a little bit of time that I was there with the dog that I got to keep from getting shots she was very comfortable and happy so hey I like the shelter the man that I spoke with was very nice actually everybody that I was talking to was very nice so

Such caring staff, and so helpful. The fur babies are all happy. The Director takes the time to spend time individually with every animal to ensure a positive experience for these babies, and to help socialize, and to get to know each unique personality so as to place in the perfect furever home. Come and meet these guys and take home your new best friend.

The center was very clean. The animals were well cared for. It is still such a shame to see so many elderly dogs that have been abandoned or dropped off at the center because people don't want them anymore. Very friendly staff. We love our rescue. Wish we had room to take in more.

Being able to give a animal a forever home is such a great blessing. Please adopt before you buy a pet or get one for free. The staff there are so great and they make sure your animal fixed and has all their shots. There great people

Lots of cats I rescued a kitty she was so friendly so I went back for her she was there for 3 months and now has a home. Friendly staff. My daughter wanted to save all the cats and give them a home at only 4 yrs old.

If all shelters put this much time and effort into the dogs shelters would not have a bad name, they truly care about the welfare of the dogs even if aggressive they don't give up on them

Separate rooms for dogs and cats. There is a room you can play with cats out of the cage, and you can take dogs outside for walking and playing. The shelter also provided ear plugs if loud barking bothers you.

The staff at this shelter are awesome! They allow u to take ur time picking out ur new family pet. They know these pets personally and can tell u what their personalities r like. I love my new cat. Thanks guys!!😺

Love the Shelter .... Always Friendly .We bring them Old Newspaper's & Blankets / Sheets & Towels , for the Animal's that they Care for . Have Adopted Cat's from there ...and once we move to our forever home , here in a Month..... that's where we'll be getting some Dog's from as well.** RESCUES INSTEAD OF BREEDERS ***** SAVE A LIFE ***

Great people,Thursday Oct 7th 2021 4 pmUnicoi shelter has curtailed intake for cats or kittens as they are full to capacity.  The women said they had no empty cages and that you have to call ahead of time. The Unicoi Shelter has a waiting list of 30 cats,  just for cats to be surrendered within the community.  I hope this helps the Shelter out getting the word out on what they told me, people can at least be aware before they go there.I had two cats dumped on my road here in the county in April one cat ended up with a litter of 3 and was probably dumped for that reason. The cat that had the litter was not socialable. Today I was taking the 2 kittens, about 4 or 5 months old, from that litter to our shelter. I have been working with them trying to make them socialable, since their mother was not, hoping they could be stable and they are transformed to be very calm and loving, from their prior temperament. I knew the jct shelter was at capacity, because it was online in a posting on a news site, but have not read anything on our shelter curtIling intake. There is a note from Sept on the shelters Facebook page about 90 cats and no cat litter, but no other info.  The two other adult cats that are living off the road, they need shelter.Asked if they could help me out, refer me.  They gave me a name I am waiting on a reply. They have not called back, hopefully they will. Update: Success , thanks for your help.

We've adopted 3 dogs from there and the very dedicated staff was nothing but outstanding! I highly recommend Kevin,Pam, Kara and all the volunteers at a very loving animal shelter.

They do a LOT of good for the furbabies that are brought to them. They are kindhearted, loving folks who genuinely care about the ones who come in, and they do everything in their power to find each furbaby a loving furever home. If you are looking for a new addition to your family, or want a furry companion please adopt from them. If you want to help them to help the furbabies , they are always needing pet food, litter, blankets, toys, treats, funds for medical expenses, etc. So please consider donating to them if you would like to help with an true good cause.
