Like the store, the atmosphere and the owner. Friendly environment, and the owner was willing to help me find animals that he did not normally carry. Decently stocked, even had brands and items I don't see in chain stores.

I have been coming here since I was a little kid. It is the only pet store in crossville that has stayed open. After the other day, I will never be back again. First of all, everything is so over priced. Her ferret food is $50 for a 4 pound bag, I can order online or go to petsmart and get TWO 4 pound bags for cheaper than that. Second, they follow you around the store and won’t let you pick out what you want. When I got fish there, Wick put ones in the bag that I didn’t even ask for. When I got hermit crabs there, the younger worker wouldn’t let me look, he just handed me some crabs. They all died within a week. The crabs I already had were still fine so I know it wasn’t my conditions. So I went back to get more and the same thing happened but it was Wick helping me this time. I was afraid of this so I told her I wanted to look for myself and pick out a crab even though I knew it would probably die anyways. Wick set out a few crabs up on the screen top then I told her I wanted smaller ones than what she picked out for me. She kept saying “these are small” so I told her I wanted to look and pick one out for myself. She then shoved one of the crabs in my face and said “this is the one you want” clearly she didn’t want me looking too much and finding all the dead crabs she had in the tank. So I told her I wasn’t getting a crab now if I couldn’t pick out the one I wanted since I am a paying customer. Very pushy, very bad conditions for the animals. She will not get my business anymore.

Very good place to obtain exotic birds and aquarium fish. The woman who owns it is more concerned with the animals well being than just make a sale. when you buy here, they ensure that you know how to care for your animals every need, and will answer any questions long after your purchase

If I could give this place a no star review I would. We went in Wicks Water World a few days ago in years to see if anything got better and it hasn’t. Animals are kept in small, cramped cages, the fish tanks are filthy with dead fish floating around and stuck to the filters with live inhabitants inside, the reptile room alone is the saddest.. huge ball pythons in dirty/small cages and sickly looking and don’t even get me started on bird room. The bird room is filled to the brim with beyond stressed birds ripping their feathers out and some even injured, no enrichment or fresh anything. Expect to be followed as soon as you get inside by the worker and owner as they will stare you down in each room probably to make sure no one takes pictures of the horrible/disgusting environments these poor animals are enduring, this alone lets you know that they are FULLY AWARE of the situation that these animals are in and is sick to think about!! Don’t buy any fish here as well because as soon as we tried to save one, it ending up passing away a few days later like every other animal we have rescued from here because they are so sick beyond repair. Chinchillas, rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters are bunched up in small cages with no fresh water nor food as with the reptiles… this place is so sorry and needs to be shut down and all animal licenses taken away from the owner and they never touch or own another one again. DO NOT GO TO WICKS WATER WORLD!!

Bought my hamster here WE LOVE HER. She is so sweet and loving. She never bites and is so soft. She is our little Hamaroo. She even gives deals if you buy a hamster cage, which comes with everything. Food, bedding, treats, water bottle and food dish which is around 50 plus tax Button get 1 or 2 hamster for free. They let you choose yourself and pick them out. Very friendly.

Great store. If you have aquarium needs, this is the place to go. It's almost like a zoo, they have reptiles and cute Ferrets , birds galore.

I've been traveling to Wick's Water World since the mid 90's. The owner and employees are always so nice and helpful. Nice clean store with fair pricing. Healthy animals and fish. Posted a pic of the guppies I bought just last week from there as I was on my way home with them. All are still doing great.

This is the best pet store, great customer service, and amazing prices for good quality aquarium accessories and necessities.There’s a reason why Wick is still doing business here, because she’s the best.

I’m giving this place two stars simply because of how polite the gentleman was that helped me. We started a new tank, water was treated and ready for fish. So we mistakenly went to wick’s because it’s the only local pet store. We spent over $100 on fish. Every single one except two were dead by the next morning. Wick kept insisting that there must be something wrong with my water because “her fish are all healthy”. I brought in a sample of my water for it to be tested, she only showed me the vial after she put some drops in it and said that the ph was wrong. Which we knew was wrong because we used test strips ourselves. She was nice enough to replace the dead fish, and this time they lived. BUT they have ick! There’s absolutely no way the ick didn’t come from there because it’s the only place we’ve gotten fish. Save yourself the headache and just go to Petco.

I'm still trying to recover from my trip to this HELL-HOLE! The overpowering STENCH when you walk in will knock you off your feet. Animals of every sort are crammed into filthy, too-small enclosures. The bird room was SO depressing! Overcrowded cages with NO toys or enrichment for the birds. Many had obvious health problems (one had a mangled, bleeding foot) & she's encouraging them to in-breed! The ONLY thing in any of the cages was nests & breeding boxes, with a cuttlebone for calcium to promote egg laying.The small mammal room wasn't any better. The chinchillas were in a tiny pen that had no place to hide & were so over-heated (they must be kept at 70 degrees F) that they were all sprawled on their sides & breathing heavily. The gerbils were so overcrowded that there was NO floor space for them all so they were crawling/climbing on top of each other. There's no doubt in my mind that the ignorant, un-caring owners are breeding almost everything there themselves! DISGUSTING!

As I understand it, this pet store has been in Crossville for decades and is clearly very nostalgic to the locals here. I am bewildered at how an establishment like this isn't closed down. I'm not even sure where to begin...NONE of the small animals had access to ANY water at the time I was there. Not even an empty water bowl/bottle- nothing in their "exhibits". The Guinea Pig & Rabbit had no food or hay. Ferret was the same- no food or water (let alone a hammock/hide). The 5 Chinchillas were all overheating in aquariums in the back corner of the room (which had to be about 80+ degrees) All were laying on their sides and were clearly in distress. It was absolutely heartbreaking. (I did comment on this to the store employee who said nothing..) Gerbils were in a 5 gallon aquarium that was so overcrowded they were literally jumping all over each other. My young children even noted these atrociously overcrowded conditions...The fish are in equally overcrowded tanks and without even knowing much about fish, I could clearly see many of them had Ich and/or were otherwise sickly. Many were dead and stuck in filters. At the far end there were 2 large turtles housed in an aquarium much too small and the water was so cloudy you couldn't see through it at all.When you think it can't get worse, please leave the store and DO NOT ENTER the Bird Room. (Better yet, avoid this place like the plague) The bird cages are FILTHY. No clean food/water dishes in any cages. NO enrichments (with the exception of nests/breeding boxes to perpetuate this back-yard *inbred* breeding operation, as other reviews have also mentioned) There were birds needing obvious veterinary care, including one with a horrific injury to its foot.After all this, I couldn't stand to go into the reptile room, but the last time I did a few years ago, I remember it being in really bad shape. Snakes in incredibly confined spaces with no water, proper humidity, things to climb, ect. Based on the reviews I've read about mites and other serious health issues, I would never advise getting a reptile here either.Expect to be followed and watched the entire time you are in this store as well. I used to think it was because they were worried about stealing but now I'm sure it's to discourage people from taking photographs of this obvious neglect/abuse/cruelty. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN.

Spent a lot of money here and bought a bunch of fish and 50% of them died within a week. Tested the water the water is fine, so I just think Rhett were sickly. Went back in there to look around. I noticed there were fish floating in some of their tanks.

We enjoy taking our baby to look at all of the fish, turtles, and birds here. The owners are incredibly nice to us every time we go in. When we decide to set up our aquarium, this is where we will go.

Deserves no *. The animal care is definitely slacking. Reptiles that shouldn't be housed together, housed together. Using red lights and aspen bedding. Very upsetting the conditions the animals are living in.

I’ve been there a few times and had a good experience every time. We bought several fish from there and they are all doing great. We had previously purchased several fish from Petsmart and they all died. The prices are consistent with a locally owned small business, which is what anyone should expect if they don’t go to a national retailer. Businesses have to make money to stay open. I’ll be going back every time I need something for our fish or reptiles. Thanks for the great service!

I've been going here for years, they're very knowledgeable and helpful.Things may be more expensive than if you to to petco in Cookeville, but you don't get the same quality service or healthy fish.I recommend them to anyone looking for a good petstore.edit: the reptile enclosures are not in good shape now, the snakes look and act sick, and some fish appear to be sick, as well as many dead fish in the tanks. I'll update again later if/when the situation changes.My only guess to the recent change is perhaps they got a new shipment in of fish/reptiles?edit again: everything's back to normal.

Went there a couple days ago and got $50 worth of fish. Brought them home and done everything we were supposed to do, just like we’ve done with the fish we have previously bought at this place before. They were fine that night, but when I woke up the next morning all the fish we bought were dead. Called the place and they blamed us for them dying. Telling us that our tank was dirty or that we didn’t let them sit in the water long enough. Our tank had been cleaned the day before we bought the fish and we let them sit for hours so they could get used to the water. They still refused to replace the fish. I will definitely not be shopping at this pet store again.

Great pet store with a great selection of aquarium supplies and live stock. Bought all my fish here for my 50gal and not a problem with a single one. My kids love making the rounds from fish to the reptile room and final off at the ferrets and rabbits.

To animals cages are dirty and too many in one cage. Not the right food for the animal. I suggest if you go.. .... rescue one of those animals. 😢
