As I recount my misadventure at Elders Ace Hardware on a fateful St. Patrick's Day afternoon, I can't help but feel a mixture of frustration and disbelief at the lack of assistance I encountered. It's a tale of dashed hopes, unmet expectations, and a lesson learned the hard way: Ace may claim to be the helpful place, but my experience begs to differ.With the excitement of newfound gardening ambitions, courtesy of birthday gifts, I set out on a mission to procure soil at Elders Ace Hardware in Cleveland, TN. Little did I know, this innocent pursuit would turn into a harrowing ordeal of ignorance and neglect.Navigating the maze of soil pallets outside, I found myself drowning in options, each bag devoid of pricing clarity. Desperate for guidance, I ventured indoors, seeking assistance from the supposed purveyors of helpfulness. Alas, my pleas fell on deaf ears as I was directed to wait outside for assistance.Minutes stretched into eternity as I stood amidst the silent bags of soil, my patience waning with each passing moment. Twice did I return indoors, only to be met with empty promises and indifferent shrugs from disinterested staff.My hopes flickered when I spotted a yellow-shirted employee, seemingly lost in reverie amidst the foliage. Determined to garner assistance, I approached him with a glimmer of hope in my eyes, ready to finally unravel the mysteries of soil selection."Excuse me, sir," I began, my voice laced with a tinge of desperation. "Could you please help me with the soil selection? I'm quite new to gardening and could use some guidance."The man's gaze shifted from the distant horizon to meet mine, though his expression remained impassive. "Exactly what about the soil do you need help with?" he inquired, his tone tinged with a hint of impatience.Encouraged by the prospect of assistance, I launched into an explanation of my gardening aspirations, hoping to glean insights into the nuances of soil types and their respective uses. Yet, before I could even finish my plea, he interjected with a dismissive directive."You'll need to go back inside and talk to a cashier," he declared, his words falling like a lead weight upon my hopes. "They have laminated sheets with all the information and pricing on it."Struggling to comprehend his refusal, I implored him once more, my frustration bubbling to the surface. "But sir, I was hoping you could assist me directly. I'm at a loss with the options out here, and your expertise would be invaluable."With a curt shake of his head, he reiterated his stance, his resolve unyielding. "Sorry, you'll have to go inside and speak to a cashier," he reiterated, his attention already drifting back to the foliage.Defeated and disillusioned, I trudged back indoors, my hopes dashed against the rocky shores of indifference. In the aftermath of this disheartening encounter, one question lingers: Why? Why would a purported bastion of assistance turn a blind eye to a customer in need?But my hopes were soon dashed once more when I discovered that these alleged sheets held no answers, serving merely as a facade of assistance. With over an hour wasted in fruitless pursuit, my faith in Ace's proclaimed helpfulness lay shattered, replaced by a resolve to seek refuge in the welcoming embrace of larger stores with a proven track record of customer care.As I reflect on my ordeal, I can only hope that my tale serves as a cautionary reminder to fellow seekers of aid: beware the façade of helpfulness, for it may crumble when you need it most.So, farewell, Elders Ace Hardware. You may have lost a customer today, but your legacy of indifference shall not be forgotten. As for me, I'll take my business elsewhere, where the promise of genuine assistance rings true, and the soil of customer satisfaction flourishes.

Elders has excellent service. When you walk in the door there is always somebody there ready to help if you need it! Also the employees seem very knowledgeable and will give you advice on what to do even letting you know of other places to get a product if they themselves don't carry it. They have a nice section of local items also, such as the awesome map of town in the picture below.

You know I grew up on the west coast and I went to Ace hardware all the time. The customer service I received was always top notch and their prices were always decent. Today in Cleveland TN I was with my wife and 2 year old girl and we stopped at Ace hardware to get some pumpkins! We came out to a flat tire. I started getting the jack out to put the spare on and an Ace employee came out and started helping me change the tire. I was very shocked and so happy the nice gentleman helped me. I was already exhausted and had just worked all day remodeling a house and was trying my hardest to have a positive attitude but when the Ace employee stepped in to help me I felt so relieved and emotional honestly.This right here is why I shop at Ace. Thank you very much sir whatever your name was. I will continue to shop at Ace. Be blessed!

Friendly, helpful people, and a good selection of plants. I managed to find all three of the pepper plants I wanted. They had them at a great price, too! Hopefully in a few months, I'll have some tasty chili ingredients!

I love to support local businesses but my lord, this place is so expensive. I understand you have to pay more for local, in order for them to survive but $30 plus for dead plants is a little extreme.

If you’re a gardener this is the place to go. Their plants are so much better taken care of than the big box stores. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly. One of the best employees is a young man named Matt. He goes above and beyond to help a customer. When I needed a special type of mulch he helped me to find it and even explained the differences to me so that I’d know what to get in the future.Whenever I need something from a hardware store, first place I go is Elder’s Ace. They’ll take care of you.

This is probably the biggest and best stocked Ace hardware store anywhere near Athens, TN (with the store in Spring City running a close second). I went to this particular Ace to start with because they sell several different sizes of propane tanks and will also fill them for you. There are normally plenty of staff to help find things and they are always very friendly. The price for propane there isn't quite the best anywhere, but it's certainly better than our local propane supplier as well as the "trade a tank" places.

Had my car key get programmed today. For some odd reason the instructions didn’t really match the car model, but nonetheless Manny stuck by the whole time in the hot Tennessee weather until he got it working, took about 30-40 minutes. Manny never gave up and he was positive and kind the whole time. Very impressed by both Manny along with the other staff.

If you are buying air filters and the shelf price is marked 3.59 to 3.99, expect to pay 5.99 when you get to the checkout line because that is "the lowest price they have in the system". No offer to do a price check just it is 5.99 do you want it or not. Otherwise nice store.
