I have honestly had nothing but great experiences every time I’ve gone into Mini-Critters on 49th Street. The employees are always very helpful and seem knowledgeable on the products when I’ve asked for food advice. I’ve boarded my dog there several times and she always comes home happy and healthy. I’ve seen lots of negative reviews for this company and what I know is that you really need to experience a place for yourself before deciding what’s best for you and your pet. I have seen no signs of abuse and would take people’s opinions with a grain of salt. Decide for yourself and don’t get scared away by a few bad reviews… some left by people who have never even been in the store.Thanks for always taking such good care of my girl!

mini critters is the only place I go to buy supplies for my reptiles. the staff has always been incredibly kind and welcoming every time I come in. the 49th st location is where I got my leopard gecko a few months ago, and Minnesota Ave location is where I got my sweet cat almost a year ago. could not recommend mini critters more!

I like this store for the products it has on hand, but I have some concerns. The cashiers I have worked with feel like they just want you to finish the transaction and leave. The items have clearly marked green stickers with the price, but when I brought my item up to the register to purchase it was $4 more than marked. I expressed concern about the accuracy of that price, but they just looked at the register screen and said that was how much it was. I like browsing product and knowing how much it is going to be before taking it to the register, so it makes me wary of purchasing here knowing the price tags are not accurate.I am also worried about the health of their aquarium livestock. After purchasing a few neocaridina shrimp here, I later went back into Mini-Critters to see how their old tankmates were doing and to consider getting more. There were many dead shrimp and lots of those dead shrimp had cladogonium (green fungus), which is deadly if left untreated. I definitely lucked out and those ones I had purchased did not carry the green fungus. Probably will not purchase pets here again, as I think parasites are a big problem in livestock. They have a great variety of animals, but I worry their supplier doesn't quarantine or properly care for their critters.In summary, great selection but be cautious about accurate prices of product and health of animals.

I can't say enough good things about this place....Ryan is absolutely amazing...went out of his way to come to my shop and show me how to take care of my tank I was left with....very knowledgeable and kind...THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE

We bought a little girl dog from there and we just love her! She is so good and brings joy to are lives. There work hard to cut her hair and always always do a really great job!!

The store and staff are very kind. I brought my dog in for a nail trim a few weeks ago and was pleased. I brought my dog back yesterday for a walk-in sanitary trim (and requested her armpits to be trimmed as well). I was disappointed to see that no trimming was done around her genitalia or lower belly. This may have been a lack of understanding on my part

I bought a beautiful ball python from them today. The little guy was definitely well cared for and very healthy. The staff member that helped me get all of the stuff I needed was amazingly helpful. What a great place to shop for new and existing pets. Thank you.

Great local pet shop with plenty of variety. Fish, reptiles, small mammals etc. Many brands of pet food available. Aquarium/lizard tanks, substrate, dishes and anything you could think of to outfit a reptile habitat. Neat shop, we will be back.

Bethani does a great job with our Boarder Collie. Our dog is very sensitive and gets really scared. They do a great job with her tri color coat and know how to groom to her breed type. We have struggle with that at other places. She handles her great and her cuts always look amazing. 10/10

Absolutely love this place! The service is ALWAYS amazing and the groomers are fantastic. This is where we always board and groom our fur baby. Very highly recommend!

Update: I had a situation in which my crickets died from a hot vehicle and a 40 min drive home...(whoops) and they were extremely respectful and helpful of how to prevent this situation from happening again. Best pet store!!Favorite stop for pet needs!!Great source for crickets for reptiles. We just bought a veiled Chameleon and she's the greatest addition to our family. We have 2 geckos, a beardie, 1 hamster[also purchased from Mini Critters], and 3 cats.One recommendation: have education available for employees on how to handle the reptiles they have in shop.Chameleons hate it when you try and grab them from the top to remove them from their branch. The guy did this and it makes them grab on more and stresses them out, plus you can fracture their ribs too.The whole ride home she wanted to be in my hands. Every day she wants to come out of her cage after eating. I hope someone will be able to enjoy the other Chameleon that was there. They need frequent misting in cage to drink, and feeding daily.

We were just here to check out bird toys. The conditions for these birds are awful and the prices are way too high. Even if they’re in a temporary living situation in this store there’s no toys for stimulation, the dowel perches inside their tiny cages are terrible for their feet, their plastic food dishes are grounds for bad bacteria, the food itself is mostly seed which is the equivalent to humans eating fast food everyday all day, and the round cage the canary is in can cause psychological damage and make them feel unsafe. each bird was terrified and unhappy. do better for your animals!! and please don’t shop here.

I have been taking my dogs to Mini-Critters for grooming ever since their first time. They are shih-poos with one being more curly than the other. Even with routine grooming, matted hair is inevitable for these two! Rather than shaving the matted hair, they are able to comb through it and make it softer than ever! Because I live out of town, I use the day to run my errands and am able to leave my dogs at the groomers as long as I need to without feeling guilty and with no extra charge. From answering the phone to make the appointment to picking up my babies, everyone is kind and professional! And while I’m there I can pick up my dog food and treats. As a matter of fact, I just picked up my bag of free dog food for being part of their dog food club/rewards program!

We've passed this place numerous times, without noticing it. Need to pet hotel an animal, and this place came up. After visiting, to see if it'll work, we looked around. I think I found my future pet supply store. The variety and prices are better than those "pet" chain stores.

Back in December my husband and daughter and I went into the store and found a puppy we loved! A mini golden doodle. She was so cute and after I asked the guy multiple times if the breeder was credible and he insisted that they only work with good, ethical and certified breeders we agreed to purchase her and take her home. Skip to present time she only got longer. We ordered a dog dna test and turns out she is part wiener dog. THEN I started doing research and they have multiple PUPPY MILL breeders. A couple of them have been shut down by the state of Iowa and North Dakota. The breeder our dog came from was not licensed and was under investigation. I took her to our vet and not only did she have an incompetent bladder but also her teeth have issues. I’m so sad that we supported this business.

We get all our dogs food, treats, toys and any other supplies we may need there. They also have amazing groomers that do such a great job with him and he always comes back looking and smelling great! It has wonderful staff that work hard to keep all the animals clean and well cared for!

We took Lou, our 10 year-old standard poodle to Jada for a fresh cut after a summer full of adventure and I’ve never been so happy about pickup! It’s the best she has ever felt and I could tell Jada actually connected with her, cared for her, and minded all of the details. Will absolutely book with Jada again and again!

I took the boys I babysit here for a fun evening to see animals. The staff (especially long haired gentleman) were amazing!! Gave the kids, one with some special needs and love for animals, such great attention, answering all their questions, letting them pets some creatures, and showing the around. The boys continue to rave about their time at Mini Critters and are now saving money to go back!!

I get my Siberian Husky groomed there by La Shawn and she does a wonderful job. My husky hates a bath and she is very patient. Atiya looks beautiful after her grooming and has a lot of cost to blow and brush out. All the staff are helpful and friendly.

I purchased a puppy January of 2023 - when I purchased him I was told that the papers would be mail to me within 2-3 weeks. After about 5 months and my "mini" dachshund being nearly 15 pounds and clearly a full size dachshund I reached out to Mini Critters to check on my papers. I was told that they had already been mailed to me many weeks ago and that they must have been lost in the mail and that they would get new ones. Two weeks later I had papers in the mail for a dog that was born February of 2023 - so very clearly not my dog. I let them know and they said there was a mix up and that they would get new papers. A week later I was asked to come pick up papers, which I did and I look at them and they are still not for my dog because they have the wrong birthdate. In the mean time I have purchased another dog directly from the breeder, and was given the papers on the spot. When I asked her about the situation she told me that when she drops off the puppies she gives them the papers and there should have never been an issue getting them. Though I love my dog, the hassle to just getting papers was very annoying, to the point I have just given up. If you don't care about papers, and only need to purchase the dog Mini Critters is extremely nice however if you have to deal with them after the purchase I would not recommend as they have been extremely rude and acted as if it was a burden for them to give me a paper that was suppose to come with my dog.

I'm thankful for a local company like this in sioux falls. I've been going there for two years now and they know me and my pet who I also had gotten from mini critters. Super professional, super friendly, and super reliable store. Ryan runs the store superbly and I love the doggy daycare for my puppy!
