Most of the food tasted fine, the sauce with the chislic was great, but my mom and grandma ordered broccoli cheddar soup that had gone rancid and sour but was still served to them. It was the last day this place was open before they closed for the season, so I guess they were trying to empty their fridge at the expense of their customers stomachs. Both my mom and grandma were sick within an hour or two of leaving the restaurant. They at least took the cost of the soup off of our ticket, but did nothing else (and still served it to the other people who ordered it after taking it off the salad bar --after the owner tasted it and spit it out in the kitchen) . Bill for two burgers and <10 small pieces of chislic with chili fries was still $50, so not exactly small-town diner prices either. But great old-fashioned feel to the diner itself.

Came in here for a quick bite while we we're charging our car, service was good and the food was quick and delicious. The fry bread was excellent, my son really loved his Indian taco!

While heading towards our destination, Custer, we halted here for breakfast. It’s a decent restaurant with nice quick service. We ordered 1 veggie omelette and a wrap along with regular coffee. Ambience was good, they also had small shopping section with lots of ladies bags. Food was very delicious, we just loved it. Awesome restaurant for breakfast.

Far less than a good meal. Overpriced for the end result. Somewhat dirty. After ordering, I decided I may want a salad bar and went over and looked. Most items were past being fresh. cauliflower was browned, lettuce was limp, and the containers of liquid items had formed a skin, and the girl ran over and stirred it while I was looking. The bathroom was dirty, with a sign to wiggle the toilet handle to make it flush. It appeared the person before me had a problem with it. If you could give a half a star I would. In the pic, the cole slaw is in a small ketchup container, that holds about 1/2 tablesopon

Fantastic restaurant with old world charm. Diner style food. Wide selection even for vegetarians. A must visit location. A must visit destination. Fantastic restaurant which offers great food and service. Lots of options for vegetarians. Located just off the highway. Every time we visit SD we make a point to stop at Star Restaurant

We were driving through on our way to Minnesota from a weekend in the Black Hills and decided to make a quick stop to eat. We walked in as they were getting ready to close and still let us in. We were very thankful :)We ordered 3 bacon cheeseburgers with fries, one with fried onions and our son ordered a chocolate chip pancake. The burgers were amazing!! Our fries were equally as good. Our son said his pancake was really good as well.Clean establishment and friendly young staff that were working hard. Cute restaurant!Vegetarian options: Salad bar and salad menuKid-friendliness: Kids menu and drinksWheelchair accessibility: Concrete path into door

I find that non-franchised restaurants are almost better than chain-store eating establishments. This goes double fr the Star Family Restaurant! The stuffed hash-browns were excellent ( I highly recommend them ) & the staff are courteous & friendly. Three thumbs up!

Excellent food. As others have said, service is kind of slow, but still a good place to stop for lunch off the highway. I think $7 for a kids meal is kind of steep, but includes a drink and a scoop of ice cream.

Great service and hometown feel. Fed my kids 3 and 4) and myself breakfast with the stuffed hash browns and a tall stack of pan cakes. We split a cinnamon roll. God's place to see.Such a hometown feel they had a pair rollerblades for sale at the register. So awesome!

What a tremendous little diner! We're so glad we came out here with the kids. Great food (really impressive!), Fantastic service, and a value not to be matched. It's worth the sight trip up the road from the interstate.Kid-friendliness: Great options for our kids!

Just stopped hoping to have breakfast, they told us that they were closed, apparently the cook was over whelmed with sturgis crowd. Place was not at thirty percent capacity. Staff was rude, locked the door. As the solution to there problem. They had the audacity to ask us to come back in thirty minutes, I would have thought offering a place to sit and explaining a longer wait today would have been a better approach. .

Food came out fast and hot and everything tasted great. I had a scramble and wife had the country breakfast. My scramble had lots of sausage, peppers and onions in it and the hash browns were crispy just like I like them. Her eggs were perfect and bacon was super tasty. Heck, even the toast was good. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.

My husband is extremely picky about his coffee and he rarely compliments it. He said it was outstanding coffee! Our lovely server apologized that the first cup might have been 20 minutes old (the cup he raved about) and brewed a fresh pot for him. He said both cups were wonderful. I had the loaded hash browns and he had the burrito and both were great! Do not sleep on this darling diner!

Decently solid diner food. Had the patty melt and fries, absolutely no complaints. Well-seasoned and well-prepared. The coffee was good and tasted fresh. The server (whose name I have regrettably forgotten, but she was dark-haired and younger) was so good, very affable and efficient.

Good food, clean restaurant, nice waitresses. We enjoyed our lunch and visiting with our waitress. She said the restaurant is only open about 6 months and closed in the winter months. She said she has a ranch where she raises cattle too and has small children so she has plenty to do when the diner is closed. I could have talked to her all day about her Indian culture. Very interesting!

Biscuits and gravy barely warm. Biscuits were dry, big chunks of sausage in gravy. We waited for more coffee. But everyone took a break at the same time. A bit pricey. We'll take her tip to pay for coffee down the road. Won't go back there. We like going to none franchise places for better service and better food but this time it was not so good.

Go!!!! Best breakfast we've had so far driving from California to South Dakota! The town is adorable with paved main road and sweet maintained dirt neighborhood roads. The Restaurant looks straight out if the 60’s in a good way and the waitstaff was so friendly! A highlight of our trip!
