This place started as a corner gas station in Mitchell, SD in the 30s. The owner had a couple of old cars that people would check out while filling up, so he got the idea to put a building around them and start charging admission. Things kinda snowballed from there, and ~40 buildings later it's still going strong. It's not the cheapest place you'll ever visit, but I can assure you it's worth the cost of admission. I've been to probably half the auto museums in the country, and this one takes the cake. First of all, it's huge. 300+ cars, not to mention the bicycles, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and all manner of other antique collectibles. The astonishing thing as a car guy is the number of cars I saw that I'd never seen before - and some I've never even heard of!Not only that, but much of it is housed in a transplanted "frontier town" that includes a church, fire station, train station, school, gas station, and much more. We spent almost five hours there, and the only reason we left was because the youngest kids were getting tired.Thank goodness they're a Harvest Host, or we may have never known about it. Speaking of that, their RV parking is extensive, safe, and level.

We stayed here for Harvest Host and had a nice stay. Easy driveway to get in and out of. Lots of space. Owners are super nice and helpful. There were only two hours left to view the museum so they let us have the ticket to come back in the morning. There's a ton to see here. A nice little town set-up out back. Lots of cars and antiques. We loved the motorhome the most!

Excellent collection of classic cars and a bunch of old (and rare) farm tractors as well as a bunch of cool buildings on the property. There also tons of "Easter eggs" to discover, just keep your eyes open. Admission is very cheap and it's self paced so don't feel like you're being rushed. Met and got to chat with the original owner's son, super friendly people and I will absolutely visit again if I'm in that area. Very much worth the stop.

Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo, South Dakota is a trip down memory lane. The host was very kind, fun, and helpful. There are lots of antiques, not just autos. There's a prairie town also. Parking is a large gravel lot adjacent to the museum. The restaurant was only open for breakfast and lunch today.I would recommend a stop if you're passing this way whether you stay the night or not. They allowed us to use our generator for the AC.

I stopped in with the whole family. It's a rather impressive collection of everything from old cars to lunch boxes and everything in between. If you like old toys and farm equipment there is something for you to see also. They have a very nice gift shop, clean bathrooms and have food available. Good value for money in my opinion.

We stopped there for fun since we spotted a billboard on our trip. We were not disappointed! There’s a bit of everything for everyone. It’s a nostalgia shop literally and super well done and kept. Personnel is extremely friendly and happy to answer all your questions. Love the concept and I totally recommend visiting but in a sunny day for more enjoyment! A must stop! We can’t say anything about the food since we just visited the car museum and for ya it was awesome enough.

The collection of old cars and other stuff is really impressive. But I was impressed even more by the passion of people working on the museum. They are so helpful and willing to tell about everything on the exhibition. This place definitely worth visiting. Admission for adults is $11,5.

We've driven past this place a million times on our way to the Badlands and/or Colorado, but we finally stopped this past April. The place is MASSIVE - so much more than we expected. Set aside a couple of hours at minimum. They have cars I've never heard of and machines I couldn't have dreamed up. Things were pretty dusty and dirty, so it definitely could use a little TLC. If you are even a tiny bit interested in cars, you will enjoy this place.

A couple of months ago I was traveling back to Montana. I read about this museum and decided to make a stop.Well I was the only person there however the clerk turned on all the lights in all the buildings and I had history all to myself. Well with the help of their cute kitties.I had THE BEST time. It was like owning all that history. Thanks so much for letting me go through. I'll be back with guests.

The Pioneer Auto Museum in Murdo is definitely worth checking out when you are in the area. It's only a minute off the highway and very easily accessible. They have a nice little diner/Cafe that is on site. The food was great, the service was fast friendly, and the prices were quiye reasonable. The auto museum itself has over 275 beautiful cars on display, along with antique motorcycles and tractors as well. They also have historic buildings on site as well. Definitely worth the stop. I think was $12.50 for the museum admission.

Very nice auto collection that spans many years. The people working here are very friendly and helpful. You can find most American made antique autos as well as many foreign cars. The H-D & Indians make up a small display of older motorcycles. Plus, farm tractors and trucks fill in blanks with a nice collection. The antiques are nice to see. Many household items, etc... Clean restrooms too. Great place to visit.

Tons of old cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and antiques. Even an old train caboose you can walk in and see what they were really like. Worth the stop in if you enjoy antiques and vintage automotive history.

It's not just cars...it's a mini village with displays as varied as lunch boxes and washing machines. The cars are definitely the main feature, but don't let that "steer" you away if you're not into cars. It's worth spending about an hour to an hour and a half. Conveniently located off the freeway. I would have liked to have seen a few more descriptions of the cars and some nicer display buildings, but I did enjoy the overall quirky vibe.

We visited in winter so the outside buildings were closed. Dave gave us the "family discount" and showed us the first room in the museum personally. He was very knowledgeable and engaging with us and our 4 littles. He then gave us a map and recommendations for our day heading west!

Pretty cool place to stop. We stopped on the way home from the Black Hills area. We sent a few hours but could have spent half a day there. Lots of buildings with different stuff from cars to tractors to old stereo and cameras. Lots of old history and was pretty cool that they had a treasure hunt for the kids. They collect stickers thru the tour and turn it in for a prize. Very friendly staff and also has a place to eat or get some ice cream also. I would recommend to check it out.

What a hoot!! So much to look at, 43 buildings full of oddities. It is not a “restored” museum. Would be difficult for a wheelchair or walker. Plan to spend several hours, if you have the time.

This place is too much! If you want an entertaining afternoon, check it out. Not only beautiful cars that brought back memories of yesteryear, but products I remember as a child and even turn of the century town.
