We called a few places to camp. Couldn't find anything. Last try was Holy Smoke, they didn't have a spot for the night. But did the next night. I told her we just needed a place to drop our camper to go site seeing. She offered us a parking area, no hook-ups, and hada spot for us the next day. Very friendly lady. Wish I could remember her name. Our neighbor was a different story, very very rude!! She was in a wheelchair I saw her open the door, to a ramp. I offered to help her? No.. I told her my husband moved a piece of plywood thinking someone would trip, or get hurt. She chewed him out for touching her property. He went right over n put it back where she told him to. Next morning we see she painted on it don't touch!! Wow... What comes around goes around. Back to the wonderful small camp ground perfectly placed between attractions. I would stay again šŸ˜€

Where to begin...we stayed in cabin 16B, for 3 hours. Very uncomfortable, very. I was ready to leave ( and lose the money we paid upfront) to go to a hotel. We talked to the manager and she did a FANTASTIC job of moving us to a very nice cabin, #22. Yes it cost more, but was still less than walking away from the $300 we already spent. We're here two nights and love the place, the services has been great. Thanks!

My husband and I have been staying at Holy Smoke Resort for over 16 years. Holy Smoke Resort is our home away from home. We have traveled here with our parents, friends, kids etc. and it never disappoints. Danny and Lynette have always made us feel at home and apart of their family since day one. If we ever had a special request whether it could be met or not they always tried their best to accommodate. We travel in our big rig and with our yellow lab and this campground fits us perfectly. We have had friends and family stay in the cabins and they also have had a wonderful experience. The resort provides all the necessities and you just cant put a price on the way you feel when you are here. The way this campground is nestled in the mountains is so cozy and quaint but also close to all the attractions we absolutely wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

The owners of the hotel are completely inflexible. We had a family reunion. We rented out all of the cabins for our 80 person gathering. One of the cabins which had its own entrance was large enough for everyone to gather for dinner, but the owner refused to let us all eat there. We had rented the picnic shelter on the property, but it was cold and rainy. It seemed like the owner has a lot of distrust of her clients who stay at the resort because there are signs everywhere which make clear how much you will be charged if you dirty or lose any towels or kitchen items. (Most of the kitchen. items look like they came from the dollar store) There is a list of all the items that the kitchens are supposed to have, but you should check to make sure you have the items because you will be charged for them when you leave, even if they were never there to begin with. Honestly, the cabins were not very well equipped with things for eating and cooking. My biggest criticism is that the beds are rapped in plastic. They were super noisy and uncomfortable. Although, this resort has several cabins, it should not be an option for anyone having a reunion because there’s no place for a family to break bread together. It was ironic because our family was originally in the hotel business and was known for hospitality. I don’t think the owner cared at all if we had what we needed or we were comfortable even though she made between 20,000 to 30,000 dollars from or family. She should get out of this business. Do not stay here!

We’ll be back! The two bedroom was excellent for our family and provided a great space for the kids to ride bikes and even had a little playground. Very clean with just the right amount of amenities. The proximity to other activities was perfect. We almost had to cancel our night here on a road trip due to unforeseen vehicle issues, but management let us push out a night (since it was off peak and a weekday I think). I’m so glad we made it!

We stayed here for our 20th anniversary and LOVED it!!! The cabins are perfect for any need clean and comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the refrigerator the cabin had. We stayed for 4 days and the refrigerator was plenty big enough to hold any food we needed to cook on the grill. The rustic look is so relaxing. The staff is super friendly and willing to ensure all your needs are met. It is even pretty well located with several attractions close by to visit. We had our two dogs with us and it was a relief to find such a slice of heaven where they were welcome. They have a fairly good size dog park for the dogs to run as well. We will definitely be returning to this resort. Highly recommended!!!!

Stayed 2 nights 5/23. The campground IS very close to the main road but the campground is below the road in a geographical bowl of sorts. The sites are heavily graveled but not wide enough. We are in an Airstream w/ no slides, had a neighbor roll in with a slide, if we had an opposing slide- it would of been REAL close. There are picnic tables but the sites are too tight to enjoy them. When it rains, as it did, you feet have to walk in dirt (or mud In our case as it rained while we were there). There are no frills such as bathhouse, laundry etc. There is a small fenced dog park but we walked around the perimeter of the (appx. 36 site campground). It was very pretty and green, lots on pine trees. Close to Keystone and MT Rushmore. There are LOTS of really good RV parks in the Black Hills. Didn’t regret we stayed here.

Really loved this campground, no it doesn’t have a bath house or shower at the campground. It says this on the website. The grounds were amazing and the staff was awesome. It is full hookup and it is setup for campers and motorhomes, they do have very nice cabins. We stayed 5 nights and hated to leave, beautiful area. Go visit Hill City and Deadwood. Thank you for a great stay, August 2023

Holy Smoke Resort is not autism-friendly in any way. I stayed there from July 15-17, 2023. We arrived at the resort around 2:150m, and check-in is stated as 3 pm. We walked into the office and my obviously special needs adult son said hello, we asked if the cabin would be ready and if it would be appreciated if we could check in early. The woman at the desk smiled at us and said "Oh, the cabin won't be ready yet". We went outside and decided to wait, I hiked up to the cabin with my special needs son. The cabin was locked, no maintenance or housekeeping on site. I sat on the porch until a few minutes before 3 pm to see if any staff was working on the unit, but nothing. I went back to the office and she waved at me from the office door so that we could check in, it was 5 minutes before 3 pm. The fact that she was dishonest about the cabin being ready and she was unwilling to accommodate an adult with special needs was terrible. We are always looking for some grace when traveling. You won't find it at Holy Smoke Resort.Nearby activities: The location is close to Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial along with the town of Keystone.

My friend and I decided to come to South Dakota for our vacation. We had a great time. We stayed at the Holy Smoke Resort which was great. The cabin was clean and fresh. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all our needs. It is located in the small town of Keystone. We were able to visit Mt Rushmoore, Hill City, Custer, Needles Highway and many more. We want to thank everyone here and the town of Keystone who made us feel welcome. Becky and Mary Jo

Good: Nice clean park. Friendly staff. Convenient location. Bad: speed bumps need to be milled down some. Our leveling jacks hit the first one in. Sites are too close together. No charcoal grilling! We expected the highway noise when we made reservations.Edit: employees found our lost phone, drivers license and credit cards. Contacted us and mailing items to us. Saved our vacation!

To be honest I was expecting something really bad, but it's actually probably one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at. My Cabin was very clean and very comfortable. Only thing I would complain about is an extra light near the shower and maybe a power strip by the bed to charge my phone or at least a lamp that has a USB port. But other than that I thought it was a great place and I would return again for sure.

Our family of four rented cabin #9 and loved it! We were able to park right next to the cabin. The cabin was super clean! Way more fun than a hotel! We also loved that they were pet friendly. Thanks for the memories!Nearby activities: Very easy access many attractions near Rushmore.

We drove up here from Buffalo, Ny on a planned trip to South Dakota, to see Mt Rushmore and Custer park.We just happened to get lucky and find this gem of a campground. The drive up here was gorgeous! When we got to Holysmoke campground it’s tucked away in a wooded area. It’s so well maintained and peaceful here. Everyone is so friendly here. There are many cabins and RV site’s available. There is even a little fenced in dog park! You do hear the cars from time to time, but none of that overshadowed the feel of camping in a beautiful wooded area. It’s just a 10 min drive thru a little town called Keystone (which you have to see) Right to Mt Rushmore and Custer Park! We will definitely be back to visit and stay at this campground again.

Me and my wife visited South Dakota a couple of weeks ago. We were looking for a place to stay and found Holy Smoke Resort online. This place was actually better than I expected. We stayed in cabin #22 and it was very nice and clean. The resort had a great staff as well. I loved the peacefulness and not to mention the close proximity to Mount Rushmore. If we ever visit South Dakota again we'll definitely be staying here!

We found Holy Smoke Resort from a person who stated their parents stayed there whenever they were in town. Pulling into the property, management was outside looking at our towed classic VW. Inside the office the lady was friendly, helpful about the area, and answered all our questions. They had a nice pull through for us with ALL the amenities. We spent two nights there even sharing a couple of bottles of wine with neighbors from Canada and talking into the evening. If we are traveling in that direction again, we will go out of our way to stay there. She also had a GREAT SIGN on the counter about having the appropriate attitude. WE LOVED IT.

This was a really cute place! Super close to mount Rushmore without being in the heart of keystone - it was much more quiet šŸ¤—We called them up asking if they had any availability the night of for 2 people and a dog. The only thing they had was a townhouse cabin looking thing with 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, a huge bathroom with shower, and a patio. That was easy to big for us so they gave it to us for a discount. We got there and it was so great!! Huge place, ample seating, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms with 1 queen bed each, futon that could sleep 2, and a really lovely lazy boy that could hold 1, really.Great service, Clean place, wonderful spot. The only 2 cons to the places were1) they didn't have a walking path at all (small thing)2) their check out time was 10am and we couldn't extend it (again, small thing but 10 is a little early right? Felt like we had to rush in the morning)It's a great spot, pretty good prices, beautiful area šŸ™ŒšŸ»

We stayed in both cabin 15B and 3 (only 15B photographed) and loved both! I was surprised by the stairs though, they were very steep and not young kid friendly (our 6 year old had no issues but our 2 yr old had a little issue with the gap at the top of the staircase). Just a heads up. In cabin 3 there were no stairs and the layout of the two queen beds was really cool (they were at 90° to each other with the bathroom in between - so much space!)The AC worked wonderfully in both cabins. No issues with the neighbors and everything was pretty quiet!Lynette at the front was always so friendly and helpful! It's a beautiful spot and very conveniently located!!

We stayed in cabin 16B. It was very cozy, and there was plenty of room for my family of 4. The cabin had two beds, a cot and a small futon. Plenty of blankets and towels were provided. Absolutely loved the setting, and very close to Rushmore and many other adventures. I'm sad we only stayed one night! The bed was firm, and I usually prefer softer beds, but I slept ok.

We loved our stay! The kids enjoyed the freedom of being in our own little house. They could make lots of noise without disturbing other guests like in regular hotel rooms. We also had a nice swing set outside our rooms (cabins 8-12) they loved. The picnic table outside was great for family dinner. The larger mini-fridge was an asset as well! The whole place was super clean and professional. I’ve already recommended it to family!

We just spent a week here camped out in a travel trailer and we very much enjoyed our stay. This is one of the few places still open in October and we were happy to find it. It is right next to the highway, but feels tucked away with all the trees. It had a nice playground that our kids enjoyed and there's a nice path that goes up towards the tree line. Kids had a blast playing in the leaf piles. It is a quiet and clean park that is an excellent base location to all the attractions in the area.

I reserved a cabin for my family of 6 and we absolutely loved it here. We will definitely stay here again! The views were beautiful and we saw deer everyday walking past our cabin! The cabin was very roomy and the loft had plenty of room for 3 of my children! Staff was great and housekeeping very fast with requests!

Nice convenient spot off the highway close to Keystone. Sites are narrow. Not a great place for weekend camping as there are no fire rings or open fires allowed but excellent for Black Hills Rushmore Needles Highway and so much more. Great rates great hosts clean up kept sites all in all nice place.

Stayed here part of Labor Day weekend. Very nice pull through sites. Ours was very level and easy to set up. Awesome mature Oak by site with Pines on the other side. Nice shade in the afternoon. We enjoyed our spot VERY MUCH. Full hook up and everything worked GREAT!!!Only drawback was the incline outside the door in the lounging area but there is enough space to fine a location to relax, chat with visitors and family.Hosts were outstanding, friendly and very helpful!!Thanks for a GREAT STAY!!!! We'll be back!!!

Air conditioning in July was a relief and it worked great! Cabin 16A nicely fit 3 adults and 2 kids. Fridge, microwave, nice shower with enough hot water for at least 4 showers. My city slicker kids weren't used to the insects (which I expected) inside though (including IN the loft bed)....spiders, some things with wings, ants. They had adequate entry since there was virtually no seal around the door--sun shines through door. Beautiful setting! Great location for local attractions. Check out 10am--bit early considering what you pay per night. They provide linens, but they are old and poor quality, so consider bringing your own. Beds aren't very comfortable.

Very Disappointed in the fact that we had reservations at their campground for Labor Day weekend. We are 7 days out and getting our camper ready, however we can’t get our slide out working, and I was willing to get proof from a notable camper repair place that it is truly broken, and that we aren’t trying to cancel for any reason, which I told the manager I understand this probably happens. However, I would provide evidence, showing this to be a true. Even when I was being very polite, and courteous, the manager Lynette was extremely rude and unprofessional. Even hung up on me. She said, the cancellation states, you have 14 days to notify us of any cancellations, which I also said I understood and yes did read, and agree to, when we agreed to make reservations there, however, even when I could provide physical proof to provide proof and told them I could send a statement or have the repair facility talk to them, they still were unwilling to help, incredibly rude and said that’s just to bad. We will be charging you the entire 3 day stay, whether you show up or not. I would not recommend anyone staying there ever, as they are unwilling to work with customers, and have little to no respect for people, as it was clearly evident in the way they communicated with me. Again, would not recommend HolySmoke campground, with the current management. 08/23/19 There are plenty of other campgrounds we have stayed at, that we have enjoyed in the Black Hills. We will no longer be supporting this campground in the future. Very disappointed and frustrated.
