We stayed in the Dakota cabin which is located right by the swing set play ground. My 4 year old enjoyed playing in the sand and swinging. The cabin was a perfect set up for our family of 4. A Set of bunk beds in a room and then a bed room with a TV. We thought the bed was comfy. There is no ac but it stayed nice and cool in the cabin. We did some grilling and made breakfast with some of the appliances offered. It is located by the road but traffic calms down at night. We stayed during the end of sturgis rally and were hesitant at first but we really enjoyed seeing the bikes in the town. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying in the Dakota cabin.Nearby activities: Located by Mount Rushmore, crazy horse, about a hour away from most attractions. Hill city is a nice little town

The cabin Aspen was really awesome. My first time here. I enjoyed the bathhouse which has a sauna and jacuzzi. I was never bothered, owners are very friendly and welcoming!! Would recommend to anybody looking for a place to stay that is close to Keystone. For breakfast I was able to walk down and buy their coffee which was really delicious! Will be coming back to stay again. Price is reasonable & I would rate 10 stars If I could!

We stayed in Cabin #2 for 5 nights total. Our reservation was for 7 nights but we decided to come home early for a number of reasons. One of those being our inability to sleep well. The cabin is very close to the road and with no AC we have to sleep with the windows open so up until about 10 there is a lot of noise and then again around 7am. The mattress and pillows are also in need of replacement in this cabin. I understand that there was pillows in the office but it seems to be a common complaint from this place that I agree with. That said there was still plenty of perks to this place.. it is very conveniently located close to Hill City, the kitchenette is great and had most everything needed to cook some meals, hot water supply was good, and the “living room” area was spacious and had a nice tv with plenty of channels. We also thoroughly enjoyed the coffee shop and stopped in almost every morning, the cinnamon rolls are to die for. Compared to tent camping this place takes the cake.

We could not of been more pleased with our stay at Pine Rest cabins! Me and my girlfriend drove all the way from Georgia (stopped in Kansas) the last week of April in an attempt to turkey hunt the Black Hills as well as experience all there is to do in the Black Hills national forest. We were fortunate enough to be successful at both and in a large part due to the cozy accommodations at the Pine Rest cabins! The staff and owners of Pine Rest cabins exemplify the mountain generosity that exist in the beautiful Black Hills. We fell in love with not only the landscape, but the extremely nice people of Hill City as well. The cabin we stayed in was super clean with plenty of room. To be so far away from home it's always refreshing to be greeted with genuinely nice people who care about your stay and your well being while being there. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and can't wait to visit the Black Hills again. We can't recommend Pine Rest cabins enough!

Do not, I repeat DO NOT STAY HERE! The owners only want your money they don't care about hospitality or comfort. Cabin number 5 needs bulldozed over. It a filthy cobbled up excuse for a place to spend the night. My wife literally set down and cried due to our disappointment. We booked it for 5 nights for several people all of which couldn't believe the owners would rent such a dump. Their selling point is, its the original cabin,, which we invasioned as this really beautiful old time preserved Cabin in the foothills of SD. What a bad dream this turned out to be. We were going to cook out at the grill on the back porch but when we looked inside, it had years of rust and an old spatula stuck to the bottom. One night we were going to use the outside furniture but found they were rotten because they were kept under the roof eve.The hot tub had a brown ring around it and a bad odor. From the front porch you could not see anything because of the overgrown bushes that blocked the unsightly dumpster but not the smell. The pillows were flat as a pancake, we had to purchase new ones. The mattresses were also flat but we made do. I can't say enough about how rundown this place is. Had we read an honest review like this one we would have stayed elsewhere.

Stayed in Cabin 8 during our visit to the Black Hills in July/August of 2021. The cabin is historic as they described to us, and we enjoyed the character of it. The cabin was clean, all in working order, large covered porch, and provided plenty of space for the 5 of us. We truly enjoyed our stay and would most certainly stay again. The cabins are located in Hill City near many of the major spots in the Black Hills.

My family and I just left on Monday 5/27/19.We loved our cabin it was perfect for us. Clean, cozy and well stocked with everything we needed. We grilled out multiple times during our stay and just enjoyed sitting at the picnic table and taking in the scenery. We loved how it is centrally located to everything you want to see. The owners are amazing and were the perfect hosts. I also got to enjoy visiting with their son which was also a pleasure. We will be back and I have already recommended them to all my friends.Thank you so much for making our vacation one to remember:)

We had the best stay at Pine Rest Cabins! Jan and her husband were so sweet and made us feel at home. The cabin was clean, cozy, and well-stocked! It was nice to have a gas stove and mini fridge so we could cook meals and not have to eat out every meal.A late spring snow storm came in and we had to leave a day early and Jan was so sweet to refund us.Our 2 year old loved the playground and we had a blast playing board games in the coffee shop.Pine Rest Cabins is in a beautiful location and is close to Mt. Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, Custer Park, Crazy Horse, and The Black Hills Geological Institute. We will definitely be back!

We rented cabin #5. It is a rundown cobbled up stinky mess. There are two overgrown bushes in front on the porch blocking any view. Also in front of the bushes is the dumpster. Both bathroom floors are slanted and soft spots feel like you might fall through. We had to buy new pillows because the ones they supply are flat. The place smells awful, the mattresses are old and thin. The siding is molded and falling off literally.I'm just being honest. If we had known this we would have searched elsewhere

Stayed for a long weekend. Cabin was very cozy and clean clean clean! Grounds were very well maintained and driveway was easy on and off the highway. Furnishings in the cabin met our needs. Each cabin had its own picnic table and charcoal grill. Excellent views, friendly staff and we will return!!! Best memories of this place: sitting on the porch watching the deer in the fields across the valley, the snow falling (peaceful), and the closeness to all the Black Hill sites.

What a great little place! Cabins were clean, and well prepped. One item of note: not all cabins have stoves, ours had an electric skillet and bowl thing. It worked well, but was different than we were expecting. Its next to the road, but also next to the woods so it was a nice spot. Very close to lots of things.Rooms: Clean, well stocked, and well heated.Nearby activities: Lots to do nearby. Mt. Rushmore, Black Elk Peak (highest pt east of the Rockies), crazy horse, lots of small towns. The best grocery store is about a mile away, best prices and good selection.Noteworthy details: No direct access to the trail, you have to go down a bit to get on it. Stars are amazing anywhere you go. Lots of things close after labor day, so if visiting in the fall (which is beautiful) not everything will be open, including restaurants, but there is also a lot less traffic from what I was told.

The PERFECT little cabins to stay at to see Mt. Rushmore and more in the Black Hills. Our cabin had cozy beds, a lovely kitchenette with all the pots & pans needed for cooking, and the perfect location for all kinds of day excursions. The coffee shop/office was a wonderful addition for our stay as well ! The only thing I could complain about is the road noise, but it died down during the night and didn't bother us.

My family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids ages 9 & 12, rented a 2 bedroom cabin for 4 nights during our stay in the Black Hills. The cabins are perfect for a family. The main bedroom had a double sized bed that was comfortable. The other bedroom had built in bunk beds that worked well for our 12 & 9 year old. The living/dining room has a small table and 4 chairs making it possible to enjoy meals at home. There is a small kitchenette with electric skillet, dishes for 4, some utensils, a coffee maker, refrigerator/freezer, and a microwave. Each cabin has it's own grill as well. The bathrooms are good sized with a tub/shower combination and real toilet. Staying in Hill City is convenient to all of the sites to see, and this town has a real grocery store. We liked being able to enjoy the scenery and some hiking from our cabin, and preferred it to staying in a hotel. It had that rustic feel, without compromising comfort.

We needed a quick getaway and so we stayed here 3 nights. It was perfect for a family of 5 and close to all the places you want to see in the black hills. I especially appreciated the staff who genuinely care for their customers. Any time I asked about anything they took care of it immediately and also followed up to make sure it was resolved. Hill City is 2 minutes away and has a grocery store for last minute items you forgot (if you're like us that's a lot). We will be going back! Note - The coffee shop on site was a great bonus!

Wonderful place. My family and I just enjoyed every moment of our stay. We enjoyed the quietness and just feeling safe at Pine Rest. It was a nice place, clean and comfy beds. Wasn't too far from much activities, so we were able to head out and come back to relax the rest of the day. The staff is AMAZING. Very friendly and definitely go the extra mile to make sure you are enjoying your time. Thanks for everything.

We stayed in the suite. Simply adorable! It looks and felt like stepping back into grandma's house. Very sentimental, clean, the bed was comfortable and ever so peaceful. There's a coffee shop right next door so we woke up to the smell of fresh coffee every morning. Loved it! We're already planning our next trip there. Thank you for a memorable weekend.

Cabin #5 is in dire need of maintenance and attention. The bedding has holes, the pillows are flat as pancakes so much so that we had to go buy pillows! The hideaway bed/couch should not be classified as sleep-able! We had to rib bedding and pillows for this joke of a bed from the other beds-advertised as sleeping 8 yet no bedding in the cabin. Convenient. All bedding, shower curtains and towels are from 1980! The porch is covered in bushes so no one can see any “hills” and the DUMPSTER is right in front of the porch. Classy! Spend another $100/night and get a better cabin-there’s plenty!

We stayed in the suite connected to the Perky Pine, and it was great for the two of us. Very clean, and the bed was very comfy. The owner was very friendly and the manager was very nice to talk to and recommended places to eat and visit. Coffee was great too!

My husband and I took a "creative retreat" during the off-season at Pine Rest Cabins. We had a great experience -- the cabins are clean, cozy, and stocked with everything you might need, from towels to coffee pots to dish soap. The scenery is beautiful year-round, and we had a peaceful, productive long weekend. The owners are friendly, great people. There's lots to do in the Black Hills, but you may be reluctant to leave your sweet little cabin. It's just right for a vacation home-away-from-home.

This place was exactly what my family needed. Simple, modern amenities, comfy beds and a deck that had a view of both the main highway and the mountains. So beautiful! We didnt turn tv on all week. We played board games they freely offer to guests and drank coffee. Also ate amazing muffins! The owners and employees we met were so friendly. It really was a home away from home and we look forward to staying there again!

I did not have the good fortune of staying here, since inclement weather prevented all parties from being able to travel. My party had booked a couple cabins for a friendsgiving celebration but the blizzard that showed up had other plans. Jan was extremely flexible and provided a full refund before I could even ask for one! She was very professional and courteous throughout the entire booking process and I am sad we weren't able to enjoy some of that famous coffee! Based on my interactions with the owner I will make a point of choosing Pine Rest Cabins whenever I'm looking for a cabin stay in the Black Hills. Highly recommended!!

We just returned to MN after spending the 2016 Labor Day weekend in the Black Hills, SD. Our stay at the Pine Rest Cabins can be described in 3 words - Beautiful, peaceful and serene. The cabins provide just the kind of relaxation a short vacation stay would require. Jan and Steve, the friendly owners of the cabins, have set up each cabin with a lot of thought. Located conveniently to all the tourist attractions around the Black Hills and also to the quaint town of Hill City.It is also a perfect place to stay for an extended day and trek in the woods on the hills behind the cabins, where one can spot the fauna of the national forest.Thank you, Jan and Steve, for making our first trip to the Black Hills a memorable one! We look forward to returning to your cabins sometime soon!
