Gorgeous property, cozy and well equipped cabins, excellent location. We loved our stay at the Harney View cabin. It was just what we needed for our family of 6 for our spring break trip to South Dakota. It was close to everything yet remote enough to enjoy being away from civilization. The temperature was well below freezing when we were there but the cabin remained warm and cozy and the whole family appreciated the never-ending hot water. Our pup was able to stay warm and cozy while we took in the sights during the day and the night sky was a treat for astronomy fans. We will definitely return for longer next time. Thank you Jennie for the hospitality!

If I could use one word to describe my visit to Newton Fork Ranch, it would be "Perfection." Upon arrival, I entered a beautiful bucolic setting. We had the last cabin on the left, which was Meadow song. Upon entering, the cabins are clean, well maintained, and absolutely perfect. If you want a quiet getaway away, gorgeouseous views, cabins that exhibit the highest standard of craftsmanship, and myriad activities/attractions nearby, I would highly recommend Newton Fork Ranch. Thank you, Jenny and Linda, for making this little escape a possibility. Rich history, natural wonders, family friendly, and QUIET.

No one checked on us. As stated in another review steps were extremely steep and had to come down sideway stepping . Very good hiking and close to everything. Enjoyed kitchen. Wanted to check out one day early and was told if they rent it we could check out otherwise our card would have been charged I Changed the review to 5 because the owner went above and beyond to make everything right

Such a charming hideaway. Cozy cabins, gorgeous views (especially in winter!), abundant wildlife, and responsive staff make this one of our favorite vacation spots in the Black Hills. We will be back, and recommend this to anyone who wants a place to slow down and relax.

This place is magical. Our family has enjoyed a 3-night stay in the Forest Haven cabin, and we will absolutely return for another visit. The cabin was clean and had EVERYTHING we needed. There was even a box of Lincoln Logs and a CD player with CDs, which my toddler loved! The ranch is peaceful and has beautiful views in every direction. I almost don’t want people to know about this hidden gem of a place, but you can tell the owner takes great pride in this business and does a wonderful job managing things.

We greatly enjoyed out stay here. It is very picturesque, cozy, quiet (not having a TV and internet is a nice break from the realities of life.It is very convenient to the Michelson Trail (along side the property), which we biked (20-miles) and also walked. The trail will take you right into town for an easy walk, or out the other direction northwest out into the very scenic hills and forests. We stayed at the Timber Haus, which has a fantastic view, sirting high on the property. It was clean and in great condition.Hill City is a very short drive, with easy access to a grocery store and shops.Prarie Berry winery is a very short drive, and is fantastic (make reservations ahead of time for tasting, to avoid long wait time). In all, we significantly wished we had stayed and budgeted time for more than two nights, to further explore the area - but we were simply on a 3-week / 4k-mile road trip.

Family of 5 stayed in Forest Haven cabin. Had the best experience possible for our 3 night stay! Beds were comfortable. Cabin was clean. Had coffee on the front deck in the mornings. Super quiet location. Beautiful area. Very thoughtfully filled with all needed items to have a wonderful time. Linens, cooking utensil, games, grilling items.

Outstanding. The hosts, Jim and Marianne are the most helpful people I have ever met when staying anywhere. Newton Fork has become my favorite place to stay in the Black Hills for about 10 years now. The cabins are extremely relaxing. The area is unbeatable for hiking. Most trails and historical places are about 10 miles from the cabins. One great thing about the area: never in a hurry to go anywhere as everything is so close and accessible. I take my Yellow Lab with me every time, just me and the dog! Winter time is even stunning. I can only say that for me, a trip to Newton Fork Ranch and a few days in the Black Hills are one of the greatest things I look forward to when I can travel out. The stay is priced right, too when compared to what just a hotel would cost in the area. My favorite place to visit-anywhere. You too will find a stay there unforgettable. You can even gold pan on the property in the small creek winding along the edge of the property. Not much gold to be found, but a whole lot of great memories. Can't wait to go back soon.

Peaceful, beautiful, relaxing. We loved everything about Grandma's Ranch House and our stay. Centrally located for the typical Black Hills tourist attractions. Our kids loved the horses (and were included in the feedings, which was so kind) and the wide-open spaces to run and play. My favorite was the babbling creek. The kids didn't even ask about a TV! The kitchen is stocked for everything a family would need. I can't imagine anyone not falling in love with Newton Fork Ranch.

Absolutely perfect! The serenity, beautiful landscape, close to all the things you want to see in South Dakota! Linda and Laurie were fabulous about our late arrival and were helpful regarding attractions. We love it here and definitely want to return! If you haven't been to South Dakota, stay here! You will not be disappointed! It was worth every penny!

Wonderful property. Beautifully maintained. Just a heads-up for senior travelers. The cabin we stayed in only had a first floor restroom and the bed was in the loft up some very steep stairs with a huge, not helpful railing. I am sure some of the other cabins were more senior friendly, but ours was made for young, agile, and small guests. We are none of those. Loved the porch! Friendly staff.

Newton Fork Ranch is our favorite place to stay in the Black Hills! The cabins are cozy and have everything we need. On our last visit, we had to leave a day early, and they credited our last night onto our next stay. Highly recommended!

If you are planning a trip to South Dakota, this is the place to stay. End your search! The location is unbeatable! You are literally in "the heart" of the Black Hills, and the staff at Newton Fork Ranch have clearly put their hearts into this beautiful property. We stayed one full week and we were lucky to experience spring, fall, and winter weather in the Black Hills. The cabins are set back from the road and you are immersed in the beauty of the setting. There is no TV or internet and we loved that fact (huge reason we booked it). We spent a lot of time looking out the window and on the deck at the many deer and elk who come to graze. There were also mountain blue birds, turkeys, and foxes. The stars at night are unbeatable. This is a wonderful place to remind you to put down the phone and the TV remote, reconnect with nature, and pick up a book. For those who feel they cannot live without (you can do it), there is cell service here which is nice for emergencies or a must-see event which for our case was the NEED to only watch Game of Thrones the Battle of Winterfell episode live so we would not see spoliers.Newton Fork Ranch is close to all the sights! Easy trip to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, scenic drives, Rapid City, etc. We even did a day trip to the Badlands and hiked there all day. There is the Mickleson Trail that you can access on the ranch property. We used it to forgo the car and walk into town for lunch and shopping. The cabin itself has everything you may need during your stay. AND IT'S DOG FRIENDLY!! We brought our two dogs with us which was a real family trip! They were upset when we told them this was only a vacation and we had to return home.Thank you Newton staff for creating such a wonderfully true "getaway." It's amazing how the soul craves to be disconnected from the world for a bit. Thank you for giving us a beautiful place to recharge and achieve this.We are on a mission to road trip through all 50 states but after this stay are thinking to just give up and come back here all the time 😜

Excellent and very private accommodations! During our week stay we saw various other cabin rentals, but none could compare to the location and quality. If you want privacy and an easy walk to town, this is THE place! We’ll be back!

We have been here for about 4 hours and I don't want to leave. Very nice clean cabins with a perfect calm view of the pasture. Our kids have enjoyed the creek and we plan to just sit and enjoy the crisp air tonight

Absolutely love this place! So beautiful, quiet. We saw deer almost everytime we looked out our windows! Staff was so kind checked on us to make sure everything was great and it was! The town was 2 minutes away, locals were so nice and there were plenty of shops to check out all with nice items and nice owners. We will most definitely be coming back to stay again!!!

Great quiet little ranch with rustic small cozy cabins. We stayed in grandma's cabin. The stream is full of brook trout, fun to catch and very pretty.

Decided to ease my way in to a "camping " experience " by renting a cabin in the hills. This was just perfect. Peaceful and calming with deer frequently seen in the meadow and a hiking trail directly adjacent to the property. The cabin itself was well set up. Very cozy with a modern bathroom and complete kitchen. My boys and I enjoyed our time here.

I've never stayed at this place, but after doing a lot of research on this place and looking at numerous pictures I have to admit I'm very impressed and my mad love for the Black Hills National Forest just went up a few more notches. This looks like a great place to have a perfect family vacation.

The cozy cabin was just what my husband and I were looking for to get away. The Christmas card we receive every year makes me long to return. Looking back, our time there seems surreal. I baked cinnamon rolls in the kitchen, and took a bath in the clawfoot tub. Instead of tv, we played scrabble, and watched the deer casually grazing nearby as we sat on the front porch. Thanks for the memories Newton Fork Ranch. Hope to get back again. Rebecca Crabill
