Very Disappointed with our stay. Air conditioner did not cool. Refrigerator was froze up, and not working. Room was dimly lit. Door was very difficult to open or close. Posted policy was to provide clean linens every other day, this was not done, even after we requested housekeeping that day. Manager was very rude. He said they did not have such a sign in the rooms and asked me to prove it, by providing a picture of the posted policy. Location was good, as we love staying in Hill City, but will not stay in BW again! Peak season and rates were high, we did not get what we paid for.

we have been trying to get joined rooms for almost 2 weeks in advance and they kept telling us it would happen. never did. we get into our room, it's absolutely disgusting. the toilet paper is ripped up, bathroom floor was dirty, barely any outlets, sheets had yellow stains and hair in them, shower looked dirty, fridge was dirty, and there were bugs on the pillows (we found 2). they gave us different rooms, still hair but better than the original ones. the manager is very sweet, but never gave us any sort of discount or anything for the inconvenience. we ended up having to put our own sheets on. never trust a best western

Staff is exceptional! The hotel is clean and comfortable. The location is close to everything in the Black Hills. Beds are a bit firm for my liking. My only gripe is when we requested towels and trash removal it did not happen, nor did our room get cleaned when it should have been. Not sure if it was because our dog was in his kennel or what. But, we did go to the evening staff and request it and it got done before dinner. I would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was good. Although they did change the meat option there was not much variety on the daily. Bacon, bagels with cream cheese, pastries and a variety of fruit daily would be a nice addition.Rooms: CleanWalkability: Can walk to everything in HIll City

We had a wonderful stay here. The location is perfect at the edge of town (Hill City) and only a short drive to Mount Rushmore. We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. The outdoor pool was not open during our stay. Daily breakfast is complimentary for hotel guests. During our stay, we had biscuits and gravy, sausage, bread selection, waffle maker, and whole fruit. The scrambled eggs did not taste great, but everything else was very good. Our room was clean. The only negative I can say is the mattresses were too firm and the sheets were too thin for my liking. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel if you're staying in the area.Nearby activities: Main Street in downtown Hill City is only a 2-3 minute drive from this hotel.

Stay away the place is a smelly dump. This place has really went downhill. I have stayed here multiple times but never again I came in from out of town walked into the lobby and there was a very bad smell in there and the floors were filthy. I don’t think they had vacuumed in there for a week. The girl at the counter was very rude, not friendly at all, I asked her if we could get in early she said no you’ll have to wait till 3 o’clock. She never even checked to see if our room was ready. We came back an hour and a half later and another guy helped us and he actually went and checked the room and it was ready , the rooms are old and the air conditioning unit is by the window in a little enclosed area by the tiny bathroom and the air doesn’t get into the room so the room was hot and muggy the air conditioner smelled terrible. I went down to the counter and asked to cancel our reservation because of the smell in our room. I couldn’t stand the smell, the carpets are gross. He said no we couldn’t cancel. We’d have to pay a full night stay. Not a good experience. Still trying to get my money back from best Western. There’s other hotels in Hill city. They’re much newer and nicer than this dump.

Location is off the beaten path. Stayed in a suite with a kitchenette. Roomy but outdated. No safe in the room. We found women's underwear in the closet that wasn't ours & used TP behind the bathroom door. Beds could use an upgrade, bedding was very thin. Pools are small & cloudy. Hot tub holds maybe 3-4 people without making it weird.Staff was friendly. Room was quiet, even with Sturgis crazy taking place. We opted to shorten our stay & switch hotels.

The hotel that we booked online was named Black Hills LUXURY SUITES. So, when we arrived we were searching all around the property for BHLS registration desk..15 mins into our search, and after getting wet by their lawn sprinkler system, we found out that it was the best western. We asked the front desk attendants about the name of the place and they disregarded us and laughed about us getting wet while searching for clear signs to their lobby. We hoped that would be the least of our problems, and decided to brush it off as we carried our belongings to our "luxury suite"...we couldn't believe how hot it was in the "suite" as we did not expect the heat to be on and running. The room was hot and their fans and vents were not working. We immediately called for maintenance and 45mns later two nice guys came and fixed the issue. The vents were somehow disconnected behind the walls. How were we to know!?There was NOTHING luxurious about this place at all! As one other person we met, who had previously stayed here for a night, "it's a place you leave your shoes on" . The furniture was outdated and it looked dirty and uncomfortable. Such a disappointment of a place. The breakfast was awful, but I guess since it's free they don't care what they feed their guests.Needless to say, we will not return. It was NOT beyond our expectations.

We had a great experience staying at this hotel. Clean rooms, professional and friendly staff with a shout out to Wenzer who was excellent at the reception desk. The rooms are good, beds and pillows are excellent. The pool was good, the gift shop has a good choice of souvenir items and clothes at a fair price. Breakfast area was a little bit cluttered but we always ate during the rush hour around 8 am and it was July, so not a surprise. My kids were just a bit disappointed they didn’t find hot chocolate at the breakfast. But other than that the breakfast is included in the price and good. You also have a small supermarket beside the hotel and it’s super convenient to prepare your trip to the black hills or badlands and the restaurant « Chute Rooster » which is excellent and only 5 minutes walking.

The room smelled musty (I opened the window and tried to air it out but the smell came back after it was closed, one of the two beds had hairs on the sheets the shower rod was falling off the wall and was perviously fixed with duct tape. The stay wasn't a great value IMO the $120 per night stay came to $284 for the 2 night stay. I'd recommend choosing another place to stay in Hill City.

Best hotel in the area!!! 100% better than staying in Keystone!!!! Indoor and outdoor pool to keep kids busy when adults want some relax time! Awesome HOT breakfast every morning, including biscuits & gravy! I could smell the bleach in the the bathroom when we walked in, knowing the room was CLEAN! 5 min walk to town, filled with shopping and restaurants! Amazing place!!!!!

Big, clean, friendly, good breakfast. We reserved 1 night and ended up staying an additional 2 more nights. Would stay here again.Rooms: The suite was comfortable. My only negative is the refrigerator does not have a little freezer section. we have to keep medication cold so we use a cooler with ice packs and rely on the hotel to have a freezer to refreeze the ice packs.Food & drinks: Breakfast was good. Biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs and potatoes

This is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting Mt Rushmore and the surrounding attractions! It is way more affordable than staying in Custer. Our room was huge! The 2 queen suite has a ton of space, fireplace, kitchenette with mini fridge, 2 televisions, closet, and large bathroom. It was very nice for our family of four. The breakfast had the most variety that I have seen since 2020. And everything was very tasty. They have the rarity of having an indoor AND outdoor pool as well.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. The room was very clean and spacious and the breakfast buffet was very nice for a hotel. They had eggs, potatoes, ham or sausage and biscuits and gravy, along with other breakfast items. They have an indoor pool with a hot tub and an outdoor pool. The outside garden area was a nice place to relax and soak up the sun. If we ever go back to that area we would definitely stay there again. I highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I got away for the weekend and had an awesome time. Staff was very kind, breakfast was a bonus and the pool in the morning was great for laps. Being away from our kids we picked up on every little noise thankfully we discovered the bathroom fan and slept like a rock. Location is tough to beat, super close to some favorite restaurants and a short drive from Rapid.

Pros:Excellent staff.(cleaning, front desk, breakfast)Clean overall (see cons)Quiet roomsGood pillowsFair bedsExcellent location for the Black Hills attractions.Solid breakfast. (Eggs, sausage, biscuits, milk, coffee, breads, jellies, peanut butter, yogurt, juices, fresh basic fruits)Cons:Just coming off the off season the vents were gross/dirty on my ac/heater unit.Even though each building (of rooms) has secure access ability all doors are unlocked all the time. Both nights arriving back neither of the door keys worked and I had to have them remade at the front desk to get back into my room. This same problem happened last year too both nights! In room clock/radio/alarm is set by radio signal... But it isn't set for Mountain Time which is the time zone of Hill City so it's worthless. But I'm assuming most people use their phones for these features now too.Pictured below is the two queen jacuzzi tub and fireplace room.

We stayed 6 nights with 3 rooms and 7 people and had no complaints. While it's not a newer hotel (and the part we were in seemed to be part of the original building) it was well-maintained. The staff was courteous and helpful when we needed them to switch a room and any other time we needed them (which wasn't for much!). Nice continental breakfast every day, free coffee in the lobby. Like most hotel pools nowadays not gigantic but they do have an indoor and outdoor pool which the teens on our trip took advantage of (as well as a hot tub). Location was excellent--Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Bear Country, etc. all a short distance away. Also a nice grocery market a 2 minute walk away. If we ever went back to South Dakota definitely would stay again!

Hill city sd was an amazing experience. This hotel made us feel welcomed, and was a very nice spot to see so many different things. It was clean and had a full hot breakfast. The staff was always smiling and our room was amazing. Large and spacious, great view of the Chute Rooster which I also recommend for food. Nice affordable, place to stay.

Affordable and spacious. Hot tub is a little small and the pool could've been cleaner. Towels in the room were very small. The microwave was unplugged. The breakfast had more than we'd had at any other hotel on our trip and it was well maintained and serving utensils were cleaned between guests. No waffles or pancakes tho.
