It was so neat seeing the last house that Charles Ingalls built. He, his wife, Mary, Carrie, and Grace lived in this house. The stairs he built are crazy! I wonder how many times people fell down them? Especially with those long dresses on. They have outside steps to go to second floor. You are not allowed to use the inside steps, good thing. To tour it it is part of a multi building tour. Go to the Laura Ingalls welcome house that is next door to the surveyor's house. I can't remember price of tickets and I don't think you can buy in advance.

I have made many posts in the past about our travels, but this is one of my favorites. If you have read any of the books or not, this piece of pioneer history will bring the past to life! The house here, preserved to the best original state that could be, is a wonder in itself of how the Ingalls' lived after they left the homestead a mile or so away. The simple way of living and the sheer determination of this family to make a home in a time of uncertainty is, in itself, uplifting just to walk through and try to imagine. The staff were some of the friendliest people and the tour guide was not only informative but had such a wonderful disposition about her, that it was almost like being led around by a sister. My hats off to the whole of whomever keeps this place going for the history of the state, the city and the fans of the books!THANK YOU!

If you watched Little House on the Prairie or just love historical places, then this is a must see! It’s like stepping back in time. There are actual items used by the family, including framed photographs, letters, furniture, etc, check out the pictures, but even better-go explore yourself! We want to come back in the summer when more is open in the area.

This is a very informative and interesting add-on to the main tour of the Ingalls locations that operate under the home and museum. The tour guide was extremely informative and answered all of our questions. You really get an inside look at what went on when the books were written and how the writings made it to the public.

We made a day trip and wasn't disappointed. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. It is important to go to the website and make a reservation. We didn't know this was necessary and almost missed the opportunity

The building itself, with original elements, is of historical interest. However, like other locations attributed to the Ingalls family, it is disappointing to see such a lack of true connection to the family. The guide was very knowledgeable.

So much to take in about the family and the area. Highly recommend this tour. You go through 4 buildings and the gift shop.

I've read the Little House books so many times, I feel like Laura and her family are dear friends. And getting to see some places she lived was honestly a dream come true! You'll see the Surveyor's House, De Smet's first school, a replica of the Brewster school, and the last house Pa built. Our guide was very knowledgeable and even though I've read extensively on Laura's life, she gave us some tidbits that were new to me. The museum is small but mighty. Such a great experience for any fan of Laura!

This is in town, has the original surveyors house, an early log School and single room schoolhouse. The cemetery is nearby too along with their house in town which is fairly modern, the living room was recreated from photographs to the point of even making custom wallpaper. Has an original raised letter Bible. As well as their pump organ, kitchen and many of Rose Ingalls possessions.

Very nice museum and informative exhibit. Not a whole lot of "original" items, but everything is nicely displayed.

This tour was fascinating. Great speaker. I went when it was snowing and you got a sense of how cold these houses must have been. They have hay rides if you go in the summer though.

Neat to see, but fairly pricey. $28 for me and my 17 yr old son. They were closing for an hour and a half mid-day, so we had limited time for our tour. I wish they had mentioned that to us when we were buying our tickets.

My tour guide was very knowledgeable about Laura Ingalls. She was a great story teller and explainer. She made everything make sense. The tour was about an hour and a half and we looked at 4 structures.

$50 for the family to take a walking tour thru town, although it was nice to see some real items from the Ingalls family I felt the price was a little steep. Not to mention the lady at the society who rolled her eyes when I mentioned the kids (5-10) had not read the books yet. A little disappointed.

If you are a Laura Ingalls Wilder fan or a family member is, this is the town to come to for vacation. This is the in town house that Pa Ingalls built for his family, when farming became too difficult. Mary and Ma Ingalls died here. There is a collection of family artifacts. Unfortunately a lot of papers and other items were dumped because the people who originally bought the house were unaware of the their literary worth. None the less, very interesting and a lot of good info.
