My two friends and I rented Supyaks, and we had a blast at Custer state park. I’ve never used these before. They work great for a single person or for two. Easy to use, to set up, and to pack up. Fun sitting or standing. The staff was fast and friendly. Tons of great stuff to buy or rent. Also some tasty beverages on tap.

It is a great local shop with an amazing selection and knowledgeable, fantastic owners. You won't get the same customer service or experienced staff at the big box stores. Here, you get what you pay for and a lot more (grab a delicious local beer from the tap while you shop). Try out your new climbing shoes on the bouldering wall out back and enjoy one of Custers' finest businesses.

Awesome outdoor shop and awesome owners/staff. They will discuss all the bells and whistles of their products to find the right one for you at the right price. They did not try to up sale on a product not right for me. Just pure info so you can make the right de Union. So refreshing. And their product choices are outstanding.

Excellent and friendly service. Our boys enjoyed the rock wall as it was a great way for them to burn off some energy from traveling all week. They were too small to climb, but the friendly staff gave them a box to make a roof on their crash mat fort. 😂

First off, we are from Ohio site-seeing and hiking in South Dakota. Seriously GREAT service. Husband needed rain gear and they were there to help and tell us about the differences of our raincoats we were debating between.Also, so friendly to help us with great suggestions on hiking in Custer State Park. They stayed open after closing to help us out. We appreciate it more than they know.Thank you guys!

Went here to get some new shoes and the gentleman there helped me make the right decision based on what I would be using them for and which one fit the best. I was really impressed with the time he took to make sure I was getting what I needed. Being from out of town, I imagined the prices would be hiked up but that wasn’t the case at all. Will be visiting again the next time I’m in Custer.

Came in the other day for climbing gear ended up leaving with climbing shoes the guy who helped me out fit me absolutely perfect my climbing shoes fit so good they don’t even feel like I have anything on my feet. Thanks again definitely will be back for more gear despite the 2 hour drive it’s worth it!!

Great place to rent outdoor items. Owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Rented a paddle-board for the day and had a blast on Sheridan Lake.The best thing that happened for us was that when we were talking about their climbing excursions they mentioned the Palisades in Sioux City as a climbing destination and that’s a great spot for us to stay on a trip from Milwaukee to the Black Hills. Turned out to be an awesome place to camp. Really beautiful! Thanks guys!!!!!

This place recently moved and remodeled, and they have STEPPED IT UP! They have been so helpful and are a fantastic resource for gear and beta. Their selection has grown, and the craft beer/soda pop fridge is a great touch. I like stopping in to get a beer and enjoy the air conditioning after a long day out. Also, the Thai food truck next door is DELICIOUS. Whether it's gear, beer, or rentals, these guys have it or know where to find it. The only suggestion I would make for the shop: They sell fingerless belay gloves, but not belay gloves with fingers. It's the one product I couldn't find.

Then, Grant was the most genuine and helpful person who got our bike tube replaced. If your in Custer, go see them. You will be impressed with there authentic effort for exceptional customer service. Best place ever! We booked a beginner climbing class for our kids and I wish I would have booked it for myself too. Great friendly service. They even knew my kids name when we arrived. We had a flat while biking the Mickleson Trail, which we had to pump up every .5 miles for the entire trip back to Custer. We found Dylan at this place and he not only fixed our flat but tightened up both our bikes. We enjoyed beers and food on their patio while waiting and also noticed that they will soon have pay showers, while using their facilities!

I love this business and highly recommend them! We rented E-Bikes to go out on the Mickelson trail. Every staff member was outstanding and enthusiastic. We hit the sale after biking. Will definitely be back!

We definitely enjoyed stopping in here. The staff was incredible and fun to talk to. They gave us info about the area and even remembered our dogs name when we came back. Great selection of quality clothes, which was lucky since we had weather we were not expecting. Highly recommend picking up of a few of the local made soap too!!! Our daughter left her shoes at home and only brought crocs with we needed to get a strudy pair for cave tours. We ended up getting ones for myself and our other daughter 😂 the lady that helped us also let us know there was a disc golf course near by. Which we ventured over to play! Helpful and kind staff! I was hoping to have a picture to go along with this, but later! I stopped in this past weekend (June 2022) and was warmly greeted by the staff, they explained a bunch of neat things they had going on. I was looking f or a hammock that met some specific criteria and the staff went above and beyond helping me get things figured out. From actually helping me dig through their impressive inventory, to then looking up some specific questions online about a feature, I left feeling like I was well taken care of and that I had made the right purchase. Would highly recommend!

We are on vacation in Custer state park. Had a flat on my mountain bike, they immediately started working on it and had me out the door in less than 30 minutes. Very friendly staff, great prices on all in store items. From bike equipment to hiking gear. Go here you won't regret it.

The staff at the Outdoor Shop was very friendly and helpful. My family and I drove across the state for a backpacking camping trip into Black Elk Wilderness. Upon our arrival, I realized I had forgotten to pack my son's boots and my own! Going into panic mode, I began searching for shops that sold boots. South Dakota Outdoor Shop was the only shop that opened early enough that would allow my group an opportunity to salvage our trip. I couldn't be more impressed with the great service of the staff in getting us taken care of and back on our way. Best outdoor shop around! Fantastic customer service!!! I called from Virginia and spoke with Beth several weeks before I planned to visit SD. She was super helpful and answered all of my questions. Upon arriving in Custer, Beth had a bike ready for me and was incredibly “accommodating” and flexible since my schedule was uncertain. I can’t say enough about the friendly customer service I was shown by all of the employees there. I will definitely be renting from them again on my next visit to SD.

I rented a stand up paddleboard/kayak over July 4th weekend. The equipment rental was easy, the staff were extremely friendly, and everything worked well. I'd be happy to rent there again, or come back to shop or enjoy a beverage at the store.

Dillon is great! I had a mechanical issue and he went above and beyond to help me. He as also more than fair in what he charged me. Finally a great outdoor and bike shop is available in Custer. Highly recommend!!! Go in, you won’t be disappointed.

Grabbed a new pair of Oboz here while on vacation, forgot my shoes and flip flops only go so far. Nice staff & I was pleasantly surprised at the price (not a gouge fest). I'd recommend stopping in.
