People are friendly but their prices are on the level of Neiman Marcus. If you know that department store. I needed one treated 2x4x8 and couldn’t wait to finish it by going back to Rapid. I had loaded up on 2x6x8 at Lowe’s and paid $8.17 a piece. Do It Best price for the 2x4 was $14.+. So unless you’re really desperate for lumber wait until you can get to Rapid.

I have been a customer for over 10 years. Family owned hardware store with employees who live here locally. Huge selection of hardware items makes it a one stop shopping experience. Great staff, great owner and no I don't work there. Just a happy customer who appreciates a local family business who really cares about their customers. What else could I say.

People are friendly but it is a bit over priced. You find the same in Rapid City for about 30 to 40 percent less cost. But they are bit cheaper than ACE hardware, so in Custer SD have to pick your poison.

Be careful at the register! The amount on the credit card machine was $2.50ish higher than the register. They did charge us the lower amount, but we didn't use a credit card. The man couldn't explain the difference.

I am retired and travel by motorhome, I needed some plastic pipe cut for the motorhome, so I went to Custer Do It Best Hardware and Lumber. They had the pipe I needed, and even cut the pipe in the way I needed it done. Their customer service is outstanding.

Just called this store to ask if they had a particular item.. the answer was no! and they hung up on us.. Really??? Great way to do business... I wouldn't call it "Do it Best" if this is your best..
