We rolled into town after a long day of traveling, and the waitstaff took great care of us—they were especially professional and kind. The food was delicious—all the things we love about Mexican food with simple delicious innovations, like the white cheese sauce on the nachos. Great service, cool atmosphere, delicious food, and great experience overall.

Nice clean restaurant with a very attentive staff. I initially ordered a dish that had cilantro, which I do not like. I asked if it could be removed and the waiter said yes, then consulted the kitchen, who informed him there would still be some because it couldn’t all be removed. He informed me of this and we selected another dish. I appreciate honesty!

OMG! I have tried eating at Mexican food chains and loved it. But eating here at Begging Burro felt so authentic. The taste was fresh. And the waitperson who attended our table was so courteous. V ordered a Fish Tacos, drinks,a salad and everything tasted fresh. Our stay in Custer was bcoz of something unexpected, but the dinner there at Begging Burro made it worthwhile.

Our server Hector was awesome. We had steak tacos which came with corn tortillas, Spanish rice and beans. Lamb chops that came with mashed potatoes and corn. So flavorful, tender and had me wanting more. Tried the burro mule and a margarita. If I come back through I will definitely make this a stop on my list. Everyone here was genuinely and friendly.Vegetarian options: This restaurant has vegetarian options.Parking: Parking is along the street side with maked stalls.

Everything was cooked perfectly, excellent presentation of the food as well. I’d highly recommend trying anything on the menu!

Bright colors in the restaurant and bright, delicious flavors on the plate make for a happy spot to refuel while out exploring the Black Hills. Green Chili Pork was tender enough to shred and mix with rice and charro beans in a soft & warm flour tortilla. You know that sweetness of a verde salsa? This has it. Yum! Wash it down with a brew on tap or margarita. We bought the cute glass to take home. Protip: This restaurant is on the main drag in Custer which means you may miss it while keeping your eyes on the road. Park on 6th street along the Pizza Hut, it’s an easy walk from there.

I stayed in Custer middle of June and stopped in. Nice atmosphere. Even for a family. Menu was as close to authentic Mexican cuisine as I've seen in a while. Prices were $$ and very fair. Service was very good and lunch was as good as I would hope.I'm back for dinner in Aug. 2020.I took a few more pictures to show that this is a nice place. Large dining area that has a bar, tables and booths.The dish in the cast iron is "Mexican Alambre".Excellent choice.

The food here was not as “Tex-mex” as we like, but it was still really good. The dining room is large and there is a large bar area, too. Our server was extremely polite and professional. We arrived early for dinner around 5:15, we were seated primarily, offered water, chips and salsa. Within 5 minutes we ordered our food, and then time slowed way down. We were one of three tables, and each table only had 2 people seated. It still took 25 minutes to get our order for my husband, and I ordered the guacamole appetizer made at the table, as my dinner.It was tasty, just pretty slow. When we left, the restaurant was pretty full, and I can’t imagine how long some of those groups had to wait to get their food.

Absolutely delicious! I got the scallops and they melted in my mouth!! The tacos and nachos were also tasty!! Chips and salsa were also good. Highly recommend, especially since we are Texans and have a certain standard for Mexican food.

On our vacation we wanted some Mexican food so we decided to try the begging burro. The food was delicious. The nachos especially were awesome. We got three different meals and split them five ways. It isn't cheap but it was very tasty.

I feel like I am being generous with giving this place 3 stars...it feels more like a solid 2.5 stars IMO. I don't know if it was just an off night or what but I was overall disappointed with our dinner here. The service was extremely slow. We showed up and half of the tables in the restaurant were empty and not been bussed/cleaned. We were told to wait for someone to clean up the table on the patio (we asked to sit on the patio) three other parties came in, tables cleaned for them and they were seated. We waited nearly 20 minutes and finally asked the host to seat us wherever since it was obvious no one was going to clean up the table on the patio. She apologized and said they were short staffed. We tried to be understanding and were seated in the back of the restaurant. It took a few minutes for a waiter to greet us. He was pleasant and did his best to take care of us. We ordered our food and it came out in what felt like a reasonable time frame. Unfortunately the appetizer came out with the entrees and everything was cold. As far as the flavor goes, the pork appetizer was really good but again it was cold. I had the shrimp Tacos and sadly, they left a lot to be desired. Cold and bland. My husband seemed to like the flavor of his dish, but it was also cold. This place had potential to be pretty good, but fell short this evening. I probably won't return after this poor first impression.

Good food, reasonable price ($43 for 2 entrees and a margarita), and a solid option in this area. Took one star off because the food is on the bland side (the Fyre margaritas was delicious but very sweet), and one star off because the service was pretty slow. The taco salad is a huge portion and big enough for 2 to share. The pork tacos were good, but lacked flavor outside of the pickled onion. The rice was moist; the beans were a pleasant surprise with the most flavor of all. Sister loved the vinaigrette on the salad. We would both try it again in the future.

So glad we ended up eating here! The food was delicious (the sauces on everything were especially good, from the mild salsa that came with the chips, to the guajillo sauce on the chicken enchiladas). Ask for the habanero salsa if you need a little spice in your life. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the margaritas were excellent as well.

Omg seriously one of the best Mexican meals we’ve ever had. We travel all over the US and will remember this meal for a long time. So good. The empanadas and the mango Margaritas were sublime. The pico with the cabbage and the empanada sauce could have been a meal by themselves. The only draw back was the pico made the empanadas a little soggy and the salsa tasted like spaghetti sauce. Kinda weird. Still Highly recommend.

Loved this place! After a day of hiking my husband and I got into town late. This was the only place we could find open. And what am incredible surprise!! We both ordered a different salad and it was so delicious, fresh and had yummy dressings on both. We were seriously blown away and so thankful for the find. The service was also spectacular! Everyone was so nice and friendly.

My husband and I were looking for a spot to grab an early dinner after spending the day doing touristy things. We didn't want burgers so we decided to try this place. Holy moly. We absolutely loved it. They have a lot of great classic items on the menu but also have some not typical items. I got their nachos which were mind-blowing. Definitely not one note - there were so many fantastic flavors. My husband got burro brisket & it was SO TENDER and amazingly flavorful.Their salsa was sweeter than I'm used to but was still tasty. Chips were fresh and delicious. Our waitress was so kind and we got our food pretty fast! I think the price point is good for the quality of food. If you're in town, you have to try this place!

Decent food and portions for South Dakota. Pretty bland and expensive however compared to the southwest states. Best in Custer. Had the Carnitas special, $23.99, and it was nothing more than diced Carnitas with some sauce and a bowl of rice. Bland. Other was the Fundido. It was better. More flavorful. Expect 80-100 for 2 people with a couple drinks.

Great Mexican restaurant with solid tequila selection. Every dish at the table was excellent and the dessert was a nice way to top it off. Could possibly be one of the best eateries in town. Give it a try!
