I've wanted to eat here since I was a little girl. I finally went with my husband tonight and we're both glad that we did. The atmosphere was so cute and homey. They had the cutest little tables but the seating wasn't too pleasant. It wasn't as warm as I was hoping it would be. Once we got the food, nothing else matter. The seasonings really sat this place apart from anywhere I've eaten at before. From the mouth watering vegetables to the fall off the fork meat. Even the sweet tea was perfect. Thank you for such a great experience and we'll be back!

We love visiting The Gray House. The first time I visited was 20 years ago when my (now) husband lived in Anderson. We don't live close enough to visit often anymore. We stopped by today and it was just as wonderful as the first time. The food, atmosphere, and service is excellent. The owners/staff are very accommodating and friendly. The prices are quite reasonable, as well. We cannot wait to visit again.

Off the beaten path. Excellent in everyway. Food, atmosphere and staff. An old country home turned into a restaurant & bed & breakfast. Very well done.I would go out of my way to go there. 12/6/23: Still great atmosphere. Lunch was good but the ham was a little dry. Great mac & cheese and Excellent dessert.

We went to this restaurant for our 45th anniversary. I had made reservations 3 weeks prior. We had an excellent meal. The staff was wonderful. The live piano was very nice. The overall setting was pleasant and a beautiful place. I highly recommend for a special evening.

Great lunch at a reasonable price ( included dessert). Lovely old home with period decor and rooms made into small dining areas. Very good service. Grounds are beautiful and appear to be set up for events...would be a beautiful venue.

The Gray House has a charming atmosphere, the staff is always friendly and attentive, and the food is so good! My favorite is their turkey and dressing meal with green beans and old fashioned baked macaroni and cheese, which is only offered on Wednesdays. Well, it was only on Wednesdays this winter, but you can check their Facebook page to see updated menu info. They might change things up from one season to the next. I’ve also had the chicken and squash casserole, which was very good. Dessert comes with the meal. I love the double chocolate cake, and friends say the banana pudding is very good. My friend said his pork chop entree was very good too. I think eating there is like eating at your southern grandmother’s house—if your grandma was the best cook ever. I love that the restaurant is in an old house out in the country, and the grounds around the house are lovely when flowers are in bloom. I highly recommend this place for outings with friends or just for a tasty satisfying meal anytime.

Never got seated ..waited over an hour ...people already seated were waiting over an hour for there food ...empty tables not being cleared for ...one customer had to find a waitress to let her know they were ready to order .... even with a full house reservation were still being taken ....about 1/3 of the people were leaving due to wait time

This place is our own little Sweet Magnolias! We truly LOVE The Gray House! ❤️ Growing up, I remember riding the bus, passing it and saying, “When I grow up, I’m getting married there” and that’s exactly what I did! Beautiful place, really good/authentic food, cozy/homey atmosphere and an amazing lady running it! Kathy Stone runs The Gray House and she truly loves her people and her place. She always come out from the kitchen and into each room multiple times a day to interact with her customers and love on them. Just doesn’t get much better than this! 💝

My husband and I had dinner last weekend and the food was five star. The owner stopped by and talked with us and told us the history of the Grey House. The staff are fantastic . The Grey house was decorated beautifully. Don't walk to this restaurant run as fast as you can.

Affordable place to eat with lots of charm and plentiful parking. The property is really pretty. I’ve eaten there 3 times now. The first time there were 4 of us and the food was ok. Service could be better but it seems to be how they are trained. Second time we took a group there to celebrate a family birthday. 9 of us in total and we did make a reservation for Sunday lunch ahead of time. Some of us were eating our main course before others even got their starter. It was rather embarrassing. The people not served was the person whose birthday we were celebrating and our 90 year old mother. Finally just asked for their portions to be boxed up. Third time was with a friend. We shared a salad and it was pretty basic but good. It’s a shame. The property is nice and it has a ton of potential. Someone is dropping the ball somewhere. I’ve been in food and beverage for years. The staff is friendly and do their job but I think the problem stems from above them. It’s a smaller venue with tons of potential and have heard great things about how it used to be from numerous sources. I’ll go back because it’s local and I hope someone gets their fire back or hires someone with fire and experience to take it back to what it is said it used to be.

My husband and I came in to celebrate our anniversary. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. There are several small rooms with tables.I had the Jack Daniels filet mignon. The flavor was excellent even though it was cooked more than the medium rare I ordered. My husband had the ribeye. He felt it needed more seasoning. Both came with green beans, twice baked potatoes and a salad.Our server was very nice. She had several tables that kept her hopping. It took a bit for the food to come out but we didn’t mind.

The Gray House is a hidden gem. I like to go online and check out their lunch specials then go on turkey and dressing day. Or meatloaf. Or spare ribs. Such a bargain and homemade dessert is included. We love it so much I get items like chicken salad or burgoo to go. They even add a few homemade biscuits to make it special. The real treat, however, is the dinner menu. The steaks are hand cut and cooked however you desire. If you are lucky there is local talent at the piano to take your requests. I want to add this is a great place for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Just ask for Kathy and she will take care of everything.

A lovely home style, and farm fresh atmosphere is what you get here at The Gray House in Starr, SC. This is an amazing place to dine in, and the staff Mrs. Kathy and her staff are just great people. The Gray House is a real contribution to the Starr community.

Went with about 10 others. The food was a disappointment. The service was poor. You get dessert if you buy a plate. The waitress named off about 6 different cakes. But we were only able to get 2. Waitress said they weren't cutting the others. She was actually rude. So not going there again.

Terrible customer service. Went to this place on Easter and they had clearly overbooked. Reservation was at 12:30. Didn’t get seated until 1:15 and didn’t get food until 2:15. They weren’t apologetic of the situation at all and just offered excuse that a party of 30 was ahead of us. How is that our problem? I’m sure they lost a lot of future business this day due to poor managing. Will not be returning.

A hidden gem of southern dining worth the drive. Miss Kathy and her staff make every guest feel welcome. The house and gardens are always beautiful. And of course the food is delicious. Don't miss out. There just aren't many great places like this anymore.

Great food and atmosphere! The place is an "out of the way" gem you would expect to be priced much higher. I have to say I was quite surprised by the size of the cheeseburger patty. (About 3/4"!) Two thumbs up for the food. They have a room to rent by the night ad well.

The food was good. Great pinto beans. The Carmel cake wasn't very good, but that could be my tastes, no reflection of the cake itself. It was a bit crowded, but overall a very pleasant experience. I would try this place again.

My husband and I just left the gray house the salad was good we both ordered rib eye steak medium well my steak was burnt and my husband's was just the way he ordered it medium well the green beans had no flavor and the half of baked potatoe wasn't good we spent $60 and I WANT GO BACK! If the cook couldn't tell my steak was waffle thin and burnt she needs glasses . The waitress should have known something was wrong but she said nothing . I've had my own business and there's NO WAY I'D SERVICE BURNT FOOD TO ANYONE

Great food, and very friendly staff. A group of us meet there every month. The owner and staff couldn't be any nicer! Most people don't go there for the salads(!) But if you are watching your diet the salads are really good!

The Gray House easily deserves five stars. The owner comes and personally greets you, the wait staff is very informative, patient, and helpful. The food was amazing. I got the beef bourginion (not sure if I spelled that correctly) and it was served on top of a puff pastry, with a twice baked cheddar and bacon potato, green beans, a slice of watermelon, and a piece of bread. The meat was super tender, well seasoned, very flavorful, so was the twice baked potato. The green beans were simple, delicious southern green beans. The only thing I could see any complaints about would be the lack of options, each meal was served with a twice baked potato and green beans. I liked those options, but others might not so some more options could be beneficial. Overall, delicious!

The food was pretty good. We had two appetizers. 1st time having stuffed mushrooms. They were FANTASTIC. Mom also ordered the beef tips as a 2nd appetizer. Tips were super tender. It's not pictured but the Amish chicken was SUPER delicious. The "center cut pork chop" looked dry but was actually tender and moist. I did not give a 5 star bc it literally took 51 minutes before we received our appetizer. We were the 1st that were seated. I believe one or two more parties arrived shortly after we were seated. So they were not busy at all. My center cut pork chop did not taste like a pork chop at all. More like a tenderloin. But all in all we had a nice time. And will be returning soon
